Anyone here signed on to tomorrow's 1500 maori tute?

To past students: how do you recommend I study for epidemiology. Do I need to take note of all the examples of graphs they give in the lecture slides?

I'm having a hard time looking at what I need to know from each lecture as well. I've started looking at the "extra questions" they post up at the start of each week to get a general idea of the content I should be concentrating on, but I'm still unsure.

I'm making sure I can do the end of lecture questions + making sure my notes are really complete and I understand everything. Hopefully they will release past mid-sems or something like that.. It's a bit hard to really know what we need to focus on.

NO. Apparently HEAL used to be like that, but no, seriously, they should have stressed this in lectures like 100 times by now, the details of the examples they give you are NOT something you need to go away and learn.
HEAL is a different paper to the other HSFY ones in terms of study, and it can take a bit of getting used to. Try to get a grasp of the concepts, general trends, and 'the big picture', and you should be alright for HEAL. The definitions (eg: prevalence, incidence) are also very important, and you'll need a very good *understanding* of what they mean (ie: rote-learning the two-sentence definition won't cut it if you want an A+).
ETA: Sorry lul, they won't release past terms-tests (If they do, count yourselves very lucky!).
HEAL's required way of learning is quite different to that of most of the other papers, so it'll probably feel unfamiliar/uncomfortable (because there aren't really lists of facts to learn). But you'll get used to it in a few weeks or so.

So, for example, in todays lecture we were shown the trend towards lower birth rates and higher life expectancy etc. If we understand the concept and how the factors correlate to this as well as the potential future outcomes/consequences then we're doing alright?

I think we had a tutorial on that last year (so presumably you will this year). But yeah, get your head around what's happening, what could be making it do that, and what effects that could have (note the lack of definite language lol, epi is the land of probabilities).
So yes, I think you've got more or less the right idea. You almost certainly won't be asked for any actual numbers (like 'by what percentage is the population of Uganda rising each decade?', lol).
ETA: Just as a disclaimer, in some of the more 'guest lecture' type lectures (like dental epidemiology) you might be expected to remember a few facts (like general trends), but certainly not numbers from graphs given in lecures, or anything like that.

Neat, at least it's not another thing we have to know every details (*cough* HUBS)

Hi everyone. For Maori writing assignment, do they give out any model essays for us to have a look at before we have to hand it in? Because I have no idea how to start, and to what depth of detail we need to write, etc. Thanks

Wait until after UMAT, why bother starting now when we haven't even had all the relevant lectures lol.

They don't, but if you ask lulwut nicely I'm sure he'll give you a look at mine (which I just sent him).

Oooo can I have a copy aswell? pretty please
Lol. I said 'ask lulwut', because I knew multiple people would want a copy, and I'm too lazy to email it to all of you :p (But if he proves to be even lazier than I am, then I'll send you one).

Is this a lazy-off challenge?

PM me your emails and I'll send the MAORI essay.
