Yeah I'm doing Maori aswell, like you I find it boring, and yea it will be so hard to study. I never imagined I would be in this position though

Then I stand corrected. I know the difference between 50th percentile and 80th percentile is only a few raw score, but when you're at a raw of score 56 which is already on the lower end of the scale compared to typical med marks, and UMAT is worth 1/3 of your mark, I would've thought having 6 less raw marks is a pretty big blow. The lowest I've heard by standard entry this year is 70s for their percentile I think.

Oh I agree with the above - 50th percentile is definately dangerously low, and if you got such a mark you would really have to be getting high grades in your papers.

The point I'm trying to make (for all those reading this) is not to get too put off by a dissapointing UMAT, as (and the posts immediately above seem to support this) this can be a real motivation killer. Applications to med have (I assume) all been submitted and it's too late to pull out of any papers - in other words, we are all committed to this now. With this in mind, while UMAT does now give you a good indication of where you stand, the best thing now is to put it out of your minds until after exams (which are the focus now, and the only remaining aspect of selection that you still have influence over).

As I said, if you have a mark as low as 50th percentile it is not implausible that you may get accepted still - it has been known to happen.

When you guys are talking about the percentile, are you talking about the overall UMAT percentile or the Otago medicine weighting percentile (the 45% 45% 10% weighting)

Well it's possible that you could have 50 percentile overall unweighted, and have really high scores in S1 and S2 but a very low S3. Unless you have a really extreme variation in scores across the 3 sections, then the weighting doesn't matter as much as what percentile you actually get e.g. 50 vs 80.

I've kinda lost motivation to study but hopefully that will pass haha. Damn hubs next weekend

I'm finding it extremely difficult to study. I can't even eat properly...I wish time would go by faster so I can just forget about this s**t..

*sigh*

so is weighting more important or the overall percentile for otago med?

It depends. If you have a big difference between S1/S2 scores and your S3 score, then weighting will be important. Otherwise, the overall percentile is a pretty good indicator of what your chances are.

Hmmmm, does anyone know if it is possible for me to cross credit my HSFY results this year and do BBiomedSc at Auckland Uni? It would be much cheaper then staying here (much less convenient with those 1 hour bus trips to Uni -_-). Also does anyone know when invitations for the dentistry interviews are offered and when the interview actually takes place?

According to the admissions office (via e-mail) the interviews are held on the 7th, 8th and 9th of October.

They must be pretty efficient considering the deadline for applications closes on 1 October.

Yeah for anyone going for dent I hope you've prepared for the interview. Last year everyone went into a panic because they didn't think they'd start so quickly.

Hey Candy and koochkooch stay on topic >_> or use offtopic tags.

Anyone know the approximate dent UMAT cutoffs?
I think I'll be far too low. Man I wish I could get a dent interview

They only interview 250 people because they want to decrease their workload which is quite reasonable.

I dont think my chance of getting an interview offer is high because of my sh*t S2 scores.

What did you get? Surely cant be lower than me.
