Dont worry bro. At least, you have chance to improve. I have done UMAT for 4 years and I dont see any chance of improving.

I am going for med via competitive entry. But I will go to dent interview if I get an offer. Right now I am doing 2nd year pharmacy.

Last year there my section 2 was 30th percentile, and there was a girl who did slightly better but didn't get an offer for dent interview. Our overal percentiles should've been good enough to be in that 250, so the minimum scores for each section appear to be around the 50th percentile mark?

If you are interested in entry to Otago dent, refer to this website: https://healthsci.otago.ac.nz/admissions/pp10_guidelines.html

There are three ways in - Health Sciences First Year, Competitive Graduate, and Alternative.

Looking at the website, it would appear that:

To get entry via health sciences first year, you have to have currently done no previous study at a university (or have completed, at most, one year, with pretty much no science studied in that year).

To get entry via competitive graduate, you have to have been awarded a degree by a New Zealand university, you have to have graduated in the last 3 years, and that degree has to be your first degree. You also have to have completed health sciences first year at Otago (but I think you can apply now for entry into 2011, conditional on completion of HSFY in 2010).

For Australian citizens, to get entry via the alternative category, you must have graduated from a New Zealand university at some point (and not meet the requirements for graduate entry).

Furthermore, the above 3 categories all require a current UMAT result.

I don't know what year you'd be interested in applying, but if you want to get into dent next year, you have to submit an application by this Thursday, and attend an interview next week (so I'm guessing that you may have to wait until next year, unless you can organise everything at short notice).

Auckland grads can't apply for Otago med?
They certainly can. If they've completed any degree which does not include the OLY1 papers at Auckland then I think successful applicants are admitted into MBChB II after passing all the HSFY papers down at Otago.

If the completed degree includes the OLY1 papers then successful applicants are admitted straight into MBChB II. (i.e. you can cross-credit Auckland's OLY1 papers for Otago's HSFY)

Yep yep. Btw what BSc spec. are you doing this year?

Applying for Otago

Hi Im trying to apply for Otago Health Science First Year,,
and Im a little stuck.

In section 20 for 2010 Registration Form,
it says
Major Subject(s) (e.g. History, Finance, Design Studies)

if im applying for HSFY, what is my major subject?
also is this registration form all I have to fill out?
if not, can you please tell me what other things I must do?

Thank you in advance :)

I spoke to the Otago Liason Officer, and yes, the registration pack contains everything you need. However you will need to get photocopies of your passport or birth certificate verified by a J.P and send those in with it.

Under "Major Subject" we were told to put our intended second year course of study, regardless of restricted entry. (ie I put "Medicine", but you might be going for dent, so you'd put dentistry instead)
