To Arutha - I don't necessarily think it's bad, or unfair, it's just that HUBS hardly ever tests on details that are treated that minor in lectures, nor do they make it even harder in the wording of the question. It was really just surprising (and I think a good example of the way in which the GI anatomy questions all seemed to be worded in a way to try and make most people get them wrong)...

No, I just meant it in the sense that some of the MCQ questions we've had this year have been on the most obscure details, like of a why-do-we-need-to-know-this nature, e.g. a question asked how many taste buds there were in the mouth or something. Ridiculous!

EDIT: oh god that is some mangled English. Brain is so fuzzzzzzed atm =_=.[/offtopic]

13.5/15 (90%) for me for epi. Ah I mucked up that RBC question.. I hate it when you read options too fast and miss a key word like some options had kidney instead of bone marrow.
I was gutted when that salivary question came up! The one thing I didnt study

Most of the GI questions were ****, so many which is not true ones.

Sidenote:
Dent/Physio interview offers are sent. Check your emails. GL NON-MEDDERS!!(y)

Wow Im so amazed, I got offers for both physio and dent interviews with UMAT below 25% in 2 sections. the UMAT cutoffs must be real low.(yy)

That's pretty interesting, that you managed to rank in the top 250 students with a 34th percentile. Granted that many of the 1000 health sci students will not be above the 65% dent cutoff, and that many (myself included) will not be applying for dent, it's rather interesting...

Do any of the second years around here know of any similar interview offers for dent last year?

Still, that's pretty cool for you SASOL. Still set on postgrad medicine though?

My percentiles were 97 30 75, overall 80, and I wouldn't've got an interview if I wanted one last year.

Yeah i wasnt expecting it. Although a couple of people here at Selwyn also didnt have much higher than me and also got dent interviews. Yea still guna go for post grad med. I know alot of people going for med tho who didnt put down to do dent tho, so I guess the ones picked for dent dont really represent what most peoples UMATs are like. So yea guess just cos you get a dent interview doesnt neccesarily mean you have a good enough med UMAT.

Of course, but I'm just thinking about a trend here.

If skyglow knows of no one with a UMAT below 80th percentile getting a dent interview last year, yet you do get one with 34th percentile, it indicates an interesting trend.

Unless there has been a dramatic reduction in the number of people applying for dent (and for all we know there could have been), this indicates lower UMAT scores across the board.

In other words, people may be able to get into med with lower UMAT marks than last year...

Yeah exactly, not that anyone with a UMAT as low as mine would get in. For people going for rural and Maori/PI entry, would they have much lower UMAT allowances?

Do any second years know of the kind of questions they ask for physio interview? In the email it says motivation, decision making and communication Skills but that's still really broad. How do they assess decision making and communication skill? Would it be senario based or from your personal experiences?

WOW! really?? how do they pick? i got 66th percentile overall and lowest was 40th percentile and I didnt get a dent interview... weird.

I got bout 70ish for S1, 40 for S2 and 80ish for S3

Hmm... Sorry to ask, but did you get at least 65% in all 4 papers last semester?
