Hey guys I got 86 epi 88 bioc and 94 hubs
Pretty happy with the general improvement
Well done everyone! Now we wait for the 23rd :O

Nice results there pete. I really hope your hard work pays off man

Now we play the waiting game. . .

Well done pete7 - a good set of results.

SASOL - almost by definition I would have thought that applying under the rural subcategory would increase your chance of admission (otherwise there really wouldn't be a need for this subcategory).

Everyone - Turning to the main reason for this post. If you look back through this thread it is possible to work out an alarming amount of detail as to the contents of the HUBS terms tests and final exam MCQs. Given that these questions will reappear next year, and that HSFY students for next year will likely start to appear on this site soon, I have personally edited my previous posts to remove anything revealing.

It's completely up to each of you individually if you want to do the same, but I am posting here to remind you, and to point out that I would encourage it in the interests of fairness to next years students, and to make things easier for the HUBS department.

Yeah i agree, or we could tell them the wrong answers lol. Nah yeah I might go back and edit them.

Hi everybody... congrats on completing HSFY and getting some great results!(yy)

Here's the bottom line for me... 90% average, umat S1=55(~75%) S2=54(~77%) S3= 56(~62%).

I was planning to increase my 92 average after semester 1 to 94 but somehow managed to decrease it to 90 by the end of the year lol

Anyway already looking into postgrad entry but wanted to know if i've even got a remote chance of entry into med this year... what do guys think??

Hi Mohsin, Yup I would say you have a decent chance.

Ah now we can finally say "med offers will be out THIS MONTH" woo :D

You seem to be getting awfully excited on our behalf skyglow...

mohsin - good idea to plan your postgrad entry now (if you don't get into med, you only have a couple of weeks from that point on to register for next year without any late fees - and to register you have to choose your papers), but I agree that, from what patchy evidence is available, you have a fairly decent chance at being accepted.

Oh, and skyglow, I seem to recall that you got 100 in PHSI191. Did you get an "Agnes Randall Blackie memorial prize"? (I just got a letter saying I get $60 for buying books for doing well in physics...)

Funny you should mention that. I was talking to someone in my class around exam time this year about it. It was news to me that there was a prize for getting 100 in PHSI191. Needless to say I never got this prize, oh well :( Maybe I could follow them up on it...but it's kinda late now and it would seem a bit desperate haha.

Oh yes I am awfully excited whenever any sort of results come out :D I did get the "embodiment of healthsci" award at our last medstein after our exams, which pretty much confirms that I'm just as much a part of the healthsci group as the med group lol. I'm probably still a healthsci at heart :) Too bad I turned up after they were handing out the prizes. I want my certificate damnit! :D

Fair enough - I get the same feeling most of the time, getting jumpy around results time, wanting to know what everyone else got. Not just results either - I've been frequently visiting the NZQA website this last month, eagerly awaiting the release of the exam papers (particularly scholarship), and doing some of the questions as soon as they are made available... You would not have enjoyed being with me in the build-up to the release of scholarship results :p

I get really jumpy whenever anything comes out, even if it's just a small test. I also like to have an idea of how others did so I can build up an overall picture of the test difficulty, but people become more and more reluctant to tell.

To be honest, doing the schol questions as soon as they come out sounds a bit...crazy :D How did you end up going in schol? I remember being incredibly anxious whilst checking the results on one of the crappy computers at our hall lol.

I don't know, I just found schol fun. Something about taking just a few concepts and being tested on how well you understand them and can apply them to real life (rather than being tested on how many facts you remember)... Well, it just meant there were some questions I was looking forward to answering (like the chem organic "work out the structure" question, and some of the applied physics).

I was so anxious in the fortnight building up to schol results. It was alright though - I got 4 x outstanding (chem, physics, stats and calc) and 1 x normal (history) - so afterwards I was quite literally running around jumping and screaming (which is somewhat unusual for me). :D:D

Yeah "alright" haha that's damnnnnnnnnn good. Schol wasn't exactly fun for me because I had to scramble to try and cover the NCEA syllabus in a couple of days for each subject. All that feels so so long ago though and I guess it is. Gonna be a 3rd year soon O_O.

Um doing school exam papers for fun while its the holidays is taking it a tad too far, that is my idea of hell lol....have some real fun like motocrossing!!(yy)

Each to their own. I just find it difficult to completely switch off doing anything intellectual in the holidays. Besides - just as the papers came out I was running some programs at the university that take about 30-45 minutes to complete their task. If there was nothing I could do until the program finished, a scholarship question filled in the gap nicely.

I hope you are having plenty of fun with your holidays :D

Does anyone know if they give out awards for other health sci subjects other than physics?
I've heard of people getting book vouchers for doing good in non health sci subjects.

I think there's a top prize in chem, but that's just what I heard from a student so it's not concrete.

I think there's a top prize in chem, but that's just what I heard from a student so it's not concrete.

A google search reveals https://neon.otago.ac.nz/chemistry/news/14/

So, definately a chem 191 prize...

Remembering that this is health sci, I think it is quite plausible that (even though to the best of my knowledge there has been no scaling in the A+ range this year) in every paper there is at least one person who got 100% (except probably HEAL192 - only 1 person got 100% in the first terms test, and they'd have to have successfully navigated the traps in the second terms test and gotten at least 149/150 in the final as well...).

So, while there may be prizes (and mention of any on the website are rare - I couldn't find any mention of the PHSI191 prize when I searched), I would say not to expect anything unless you got 100% in the paper.

Also remember that prizes generally have to be donated, reducing the probability of prizes for papers that haven't been around for that long (I'm thinking HUBS, HEAL).

Such is the somewhat quirky nature of prizes.

Well, those are my thoughts anyway...

Oh ok, just someone I know only got something like 91% and got a prize for their paper, but I guess its different for certain departments
