Physiotherapy Schools Selection Criteria (2021 Updated)

UAC and UNSW hasnt mentioned the entry requirements yet but I k this year they allowed lower ATARs since it was a new course so next year its probs gonna be different
If it gives you any piece of mind, I know where to find this information for the two most important ATAR rounds. I will source the information in my own time.

Ah cheers. I already got accepted for the course but UNSW said starting from next year they are removing the HSC plus scheme for the course so the ATAR cut off is going to vary a lot starting from next year (most likely would need a high 90 rather than mid ones like this year)

University-University of NSW
Degree offered- Bachelor of Exercise Science (3yrs) + Masters of Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology (2yrs)
Course Length- Bachelors + Masters = 5 Years
ATAR/LSR- 98 LSR (Based on December Round 1 Offers)
Prerequisites (PR)/Assumed Knowledge (AK)-
Assumed knowledge:
Chemistry*, Advanced Mathematics.
Recommended studies: Biology
*Chemistry bridging course is recommended if students have not studied year 12 Chemistry
Notes-UNSW offers Portfolio Entry however minimum ATAR of 88 is required for the application

Schemes and Pathways subject to change as of 2024 Entry*

Update on data for new UNSW degree

***Portfolio Entry is now removed for this degree (lowest ATAR came from Portfolio Entry) so this year ATAR requirments will likely increase.

Hi, I just received an early entry offer for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) at Newcastle. Just wonder if anyone has a feedback on the programme? How does it compare to Physio degree in USyd, UNSW, ACU or WSU? Thanks.

Found this on the web

Does anyone know what ATAR is required for an Early Offer for physiotherapy at Curtin University?
Just for your understanding, your ATAR is not a requirement for an early offer. You could potentially get an early offer where you might need to meet a certain ATAR but not the other way around.

Sorry I should have been clearer. They use predicted ATAR right ? Does anyone know what that magic number is for Curtin Physio?

Strongly suggest you read the website. There's a specific section on there that tells you exactly what you need to know and answers your question.

I did read the information which is why I was hoping someone who has experience can answer my question.

Physio at Curtin is competitive entry at ATAR 90 and not guaranteed (like engineering at 80 for example). So even if you meet the minimum ATAR of 90, given the lack of places, students do not automatically get an offer. Similar to how Curtin also does medicine.

As per your link, physiotherapy has limited places available for early offers. I have attached this below. It does not sound like other degrees where meeting the hurdle + 5 for predicted ATAR results in an unconditional offer. So apologies but I am back to my original question again does anyone know or heard what predicted ATAR number previously qualified for a limited early offer spot for physio at Curtin ?

Unfortunately we get very minimal Physio student traffic here so you may not get the info you’re after.

Hi chekitout,
I don't have the exact info for Physiotherapy early entry @ Curtin, but I'd guess that the ATAR requirement is possibly similar to one stated by the uni.

I recently received (and accepted) an early entry offer for Physiotherapy from Newcastle. It was also marked as a limited space degree and ATAR 97. The uni stated that they'd make offer based on Y11 result. My expected ATAR is 97.5-98.5. In my case, the early entry is done outside of UAC and won't take any of my preferences spot, so it's a no brainer to apply for it. The application process was also very easy, just need to put in my UAC no and 3 preferred degree - all done in less than 5 minutes. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Good to know about your experience. 97 is a high score for Physio ! Well done securing an early entry spot.

I have gotten a offer for both bachelor of physiotherapy for ACU and USYD. Im unsure what to choose because usyd seems more prestigous but also that comes with greater workload and i have heard that it is more on theory and practicals focuses on techniques that will not be used in the future whereas i have heard ACU is pretty good as placements starts earlier on. I am not too sure about which one to choose.

Congratulations on both offers! Both are AHPRA accredited courses to become a physiotherapist and so you'll have no trouble with either course given the standards that AHPRA sets for health professionals. Other things you might consider to help you decide are the following:

1) Scholarships and Special Programs - Where would you feel most valued?
2) Degree Structure - Different universities follow a slightly different curriculum. Consider placements & internship opportunities (Practical experience). Consider looking at the handbook and seeing what subjects are being taught when.
3) Academic Experience, Resources, Reputations
4) Networks & Facilities - Faculty Buildings, Cohort-Size & Alumni (Networking Opportunities), Location of the University etc.

Hope this helps with your final decision!

For scholarship i have mysydney for usyd giving me 8.5k a year whereas i dont have a scholarship for acu. Im unsure of the placements of usyd and acu but i have heard that acu have more placements early on and have similar units. Both seems to have reputable academic experiences but im not too sure about usyd. UAC didnt release the cohort sizes for acu but usyd seems to have around 80 students. Im still on the fence about both unis and not too sure about which one to pick if i want to have a balance between studying and having fun. Do you have any advice on which uni i should pick.

8.5k each year is pretty extensive - that said, the placements for USYD are still extensive. Life on campus at USYD is also decent imo

In my personal opinion, I would take the USYD physiotherapy offer.
