Venue:

My venue was fairly well set out, although a little hard to locate on the street with no signage. I arrived at around 7:30, read through the rules (on the confirmation email), and then was sent downstairs to complete registration. Wasn't too serious, we were allowed to take a cup of water into the exam room and in the waiting room (where there was no chairs), which I didn't do and probably should have. We were handed earplugs if we wanted them at the beginning of the exam and had around 2/3 minutes where everyone was signed in by the overseers. I'm not sure if we were meant to use the laminated booklet at this time but I used it to write down my timing strategy for each sub-test (11 questions per 5 min verbal, 6 questions per 4 min QR etc.). With the exception of one person who received an error on the 53rd question of AR (not sure what happened to him), the test ran smoothly.

* I would recommend the earplugs, my venue had some weird construction or something going on a few levels below during my decision making and without them I would probably have been distracted, also keyboards are quite loud during quantitative. Work out how to use them beforehand if you don't know already...

Exam:

General Thoughts:

Overall this was my best score from all of my previous mocks, and my timing was better in this than any other, so I'm not sure whether it was easier or I just performed better. VR I found all the information pretty easily, and although you aren't meant to do this, I used some of my own knowledge to answer questions quickly (by cutting obvious incorrect answers) when I was running out of time.

DM was around the same as my other mock scores and I got about my average.

QR was my best section by far, and I managed to get through this very quickly with 2 minutes left at the end (which doesn't usually happen to me), the test was definitely simpler than the official mocks for this section at least.

AR was a bit disappointing from my previous tests, and I hoped to get on my higher side (750+), but still a solid score, and I had some difficult sets which I couldn't work out and had to skip (first set).

SJT was a bit different from my prep, but I only spent a couple hours on this in total as I found it very easy and generally skipped it entirely in practice mocks.

* I completed these mocks in a very weird order, and mock 7 was the highest as I had already watched the 2 hour walk through on YouTube for this particular mock, boosting my scores. Order from memory was: 1 - 7 - 5 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 2

I haven't included my results from official mocks as I found them very inaccurate, and only got usual info out of them in VR and AR, with DM having some poorly worded questions (especially in evaluating arguments) and QR having way too many questions for the time (got around 18/36 avg).

My Preparation:

I started my prep about a month and a half ago, and when I started had no clue how to do either decision making or abstract reasoning, however my verbal and quantitative marks were pretty consistent. Content removed. I focused mainly on AR as it was my worst section by far, and although it didn't really result in a high AR score, it did stop me from getting a 500. If you have been going well on your mocks, I would say it is likely you'd get around that score, or even a bit higher in some sections (QR and verbal were a surprise to me as I was expecting them to be harder in the official exam), although there will probably be some exceptions.

Sorry for dumping all of this here but couldn't be bothered putting each section into a separate forum page.

Omg good job! Was AR like pretty unfamiliar this year in your opinion cos I've heard a lot of ppl struggled in AR...😰

congrats on your amazing score! Thanks for giving us your insights, how would you say the difficulty of the real exam was compared to the mocks you did?

Overall I would say slightly easier, although that could just be from better timing or mindset. VR/DM about the same, quantitative slightly easier, AR slightly harder

Yeah I've heard that too, and I would somewhat agree with it. I found it pretty easy to find one rule (the simplest) but couldn't find the second one which I knew had to exist, which led to my worse score from some guessing.

General thoughts on your results: Really happy, i didn't think i would do so well, especially as my mocks were coming in at around 2700. This was my second time doing UCAT.

General comments on the exam/exam experience: VR was the same difficulty as the official mocks imo. I normally do my best in VR however I ran out of time and was a bit slow.
DM was similar in difficulty as the official mocks as well.
QR was much easier than the official mocks, really simple questions and stems however I ran out of time for this as well.
AR was also much easier than official mocks, pretty much all the patterns could be found through SCANS or automatically if you have practised. I put the least amount of practise into this section, however it is the section that is easiest to improve in
SJ: never really practised it so i'm not surprised with the results.

Preparation
- prepared all together for about a month this year and one last year as well. Started putting in work in the last 2 weeks, before I would only do 1-2 hours a day.

VR: 610 :(
DM: 770
QR: 780
AR: 730
Total: 2890

SJ: 634

Overall pretty borderline, hopefully enough lol.
Not borderline at all! compared to last year's results that score sits pretty nicely in the 9th decile.

How was the test overall compared to the official mocks in terms of difficulty? QR has been a nightmare for me so far.

Hello Everyone, hope you guys did well for your UCAT and best of luck for those yet to sit the exam, I'm sitting the UCAT in late July and I have a few questions regarding this test that would be amazing if you can help.

1. How many laminated whiteboards where you given initially? (because in decision making I use at least 2) and abstract reasoning one and quantitative one so I would hope they provide you initially with 6 whiteboards, and if not can we request more whiteboards from the start?

2. Would entering .5 instead of 0.5 in the calculator be ok? on the website, it says you can use either on the official UCAT and that the practice tests you must enter 0.5 but I have trust issues.

3. Does the M function clear out when going from Q1 to Q2 or set of 1st questions to the second set?

4. Someone also mentioned backspace clears everything on the calculator, does it clear M function as well?

Sorry for all these questions but I'm trying to reduce any distractions/variables that can compromise me doing my best. I'm sure others can also benefit from this and would love for someone to answer these. :)

- The UCAT website says some computers don't have the Numpad on the right of the keyboard :o

1. There is a booklet of laminated pages, I am not certain on the amount of pages, but I think there is more than 6, they are double sided and I know there is at least 5.

2. Yes .5 worked for me

3/4. I didn't use the M function as I didn't have time to learn it, but I'm pretty sure I read on this forum it is cleared every question or when you press backspace, unlike the mocks, try and find the specific message though as im not too certain on that.

It would probably change depending on the venue, if the one you are going to is popular you should be able to find someone who's done it there and check with them, but every computer at my venue had a numpad on the keyboard.

My mocks are at the bottom of the post, and you can probably guess the prep company I used based on the number of mocks, but my score was higher on average than my mocks. In regards to official UCAT mocks, I scored much lower on them and wouldn't really use them to predict my score.

Hey! Great job with the score :) What do you mean by a 2 hour walkthrough?

Heya guys! Firstly, hats off to the MSO mods for everything! Extremely grateful that all us fellow test-takers have somewhere to share our experience and help each other out. And thank you to everyone on MSO for being awesome! It's been great on here for the short time that I've been posting, and the community is extremely supportive and welcoming. 🥰

FIRST OFF can I say never in a BILLION YEARS did I ever expect a result like this. I'm absolutely shocked (in a good way, of course). I walked out of that testing centre with the sinking feeling that I probably missed out on a 90th percentile, BUT!!!! LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!!! If you have the confidence, determination and motivation to succeed, then NO ONE can stop you!!!!! Remember to walk in with your chin up and a smile on your face - YOU CAN DO THIS (also, if you're wearing a mask no one will see your smile so you won't come off as some creepy dude that's happy to be doing the UCAT).

The venue: AIRPORT WEST (The Aviation Centre)
You might be thinking why the hell I did my test here if there were centres at Boxhill, Footscray, Melbourne CBD and I think there was one at Footscray West/East/North/South (I can't remember which one it was 😅). I wanted to do my UCAT in approx. the middle of term 2 holidays so I still had time to study for assessments at school that are taking place the first week back, and I wanted a morning session (I did mine at 11am) because I was scared I'd be too tired to do it during any evening time. So yeah, chose this testing centre because of date + time. OKAY ANYWAYS, I actually visited this testing centre last Sunday, because I'd never been around Airport West before and I didn't want everything to be foreign on the day of the test - having SOME familiarity with the place seemed like a good idea.

After my first visit, I expected the testing centre to have crusty old computers with extremely archaic Pearson software and creaky floorboards (you get the idea). Wasn't really like that though haha. Before the test I was highkey freaking out because all the other testing centres seemed so professional and yeah, don't do what I did because it doesn't matter where you do the UCAT, just give it your best shot. It took around a 1 and a half hour drive there, so I just chilled out to the radio, read a magazine and read some random Wikipedia articles in preparation for VR (following FunTimes' awesome tip: don't let VR be the first thing you read on the day!).

The registration process was very quick and easy, just had to fill in this form thingo and give in my ID, then gave the camera my biggest smile. I was taken into the testing room, where there were already candidates doing the test. Basically, everyone was from the 11am timeslot, except they had started really early because they got there early (which is funny, because I thought I walked in really early at 10:20am). Airport West was actually one of the places that DIDN'T provide earplugs, but funnily they had earplugs so I had to use those. They were really similar to the disposable earplugs I took to the testing centre myself, so no issues there. The centre also provided a cute lil drink bottle so thank god I didn't die from thirst during the test!!! We were given a bunch of yellow laminated sheets (bigger than A4) with grids that were spiral-bound together - there was more than enough of these (I only used 2 - one for DM and 1 for QR). I also had to wear a facemask during my test - luckily I had done a few practice mocks with a mask so it wasn't too bad, but it was very uncomfortable! I kept having to hold the mask out so I could actually breathe, which was weird because I never felt like that during my practice mocks (maybe I wore it wrong or something, idk). My reading glasses also kept fogging up so that was annoying, because I had learnt a way to position my glasses/mask so they wouldn't fog up during practice but that didn't work in the actual test .

Overall a pretty smooth experience!

General thoughts on your results:
Ok. Firstly, wow. Pls forgive me if I sound like I'm extremely super excited throughout this post, because I am. I know it might sound a bit weird considering there are so many people above me who did way better than me, I just didn't really expect this (especially the QR score, if you've seen some of my posts you'll know that I suck at QR haha).

How I got the score I did:
- I wore my lucky The Lion King shirt
- I wore my lucky black and green socks
- The 6th of July was an 'auspicious' day for me according to my grandma (idk, grandma tings I guess :D)

In all seriousness, here are my experiences with the test:
VR:
I think VR was the exact same feel as the official resources. Before the test, I thought I'd at least be able to snag a 750 (especially considering VR would sometimes be my best section during practice), but I'm pretty happy with the 700. I was super nervous during VR and my hands were shaking because I just kept thinking over and over about how this 2-hour test would be weighted the same as my ATAR and yikes! Why did my brain decide to do that! We'd already been through this brain - no panicking! I finished with time left over, which I used to go over a passage I had skipped and go over other questions which I guesstimated. I didn't get to go over all the flagged questions I had guessed though, I hate that VR is so inference-y and implication-y.

DM:
Ok, YIKES. I'm no good at DM, but I was never expecting a score this low! I found DM quite hard - I was spending too long on those syllogisms and I kept trying to hurry up and just put an answer down and keep going because I didn't want to run out of time. Because of that, I have a feeling I lost marks on those pesky syllogisms. The logic puzzles were... not too bad I think. I think I still stuffed up a few though :(. Some of the probability questions were wack iirc, but overall I actually think it was sorta similar to the official resources, I think I just panicked throughout this section because of my poor VR performance and kept worrying about the next section (QR). I finished early and went through the questions I sorta guesstimated and wasn't sure about.

QR:
My biggest surprise! Once I finished the test, I felt like this score would miraculously be my best, and I was correct! I felt QR to be really easy - MUCH easier than the official mocks to say the least. I was really surprising myself as I cruised through the questions - I always got an answer that was one of the answer options (looks like I stuffed up somewhere though, considering my score!). You won't believe this, but I finished 7 whole minutes early. I took like 3 minutes to answer 2 questions that I had skipped and flagged, so had 4 minutes to just go through the rest of the section. I went to the start of the subsection and started redoing the questions in order to confirm if they were correct. Retrospectively, it would have been a better idea if I redid some of the questions I was a bit iffy about (coulda gotten a better score maybe!), but whatever that's not something my puny brain would have thought to do in a stressful test situation. 😂

AR:
Ok so after doing this section I was expecting like a ~600-700, didn't expect 870 even in my wildest dreams!!!!!! There was one entire pattern I couldn't get AT ALL - I came back to it a couple of times and still couldn't get it haha. I feel like if I had more time I would have gotten it, but I mean 13 minutes for 55 questions isn't exactly generous, is it? AR was sorta similar to the official mocks but sorta not - I feel like the official mocks had a greater proportion of qns with much harder conditional rules. There was also one pattern that I was SUPER iffy about, like I knew the pattern I'd formulated in my head wasn't the right pattern, or wasn't fully right, but I went with it anyway and looks like I got it correct! AR was like a blur, it went so fast!

SJT
Alrightio, this one was a bit weird. There were some scenarios I had never come across in my practice - I was expecting SJT to be more like how I felt during my practice, but it wasn't too bad I guess. Had a very similar feel to the official resources, except for some of the scenarios which I'd never come across. Overall it wasn't too bad, I obviously finished with loads of time left over. I decided to go over the entire of SJT again (changed quite a few answers in the process). It was weird to be going through my answers for SJT since that's something I never did during mock exams - I just got through SJT as quick as I could and would end the test haha. After doing SJT twice I still had time left and honestly could not be bothered so I just ended the test and left.

MY TIPS:
- Go to the bathroom BEFORE your test - you really don't have time to waste during the test (except during SJT, of course, no one cares about that section :D)
- Get there earlier than your appointment, it might take some time for registration stuff
- If you start to panic, take a breather and close your eyes - it will be ok!!!!
- It's ok if you think you did badly in one subsection. I remember being upset after VR and DM because I found a lot of the questions difficult, but I knew I had to forget about VR and DM altogether if I was to have a chance at doing well in QR and AR, which were to follow.
- Take a water bottle and earplugs. Your testing centre might not provide these - check to make sure
- REMEMBER YOUR SHORTCUTS. It simply takes wayyyyyyy too much time to be using the mouse to go to next/previous questions and bring the calculator up
- Work on the subsection until your timer hits 0 (unless it's SJT)
- Maintain your confidence - you've worked hard, you CAN DO THIS (do NOT lose your CAN-DO attitude), your state of mind will affect your performance
- RUN (through the questions) LIKE THE WIND. GO FAST - DO NOT SLOW DOWN. This is a big one because I think a lot of people get caught up with a few difficult questions and miss easy ones at the end and don't get enough time to finish. I made a note to myself before the test that I would check the timer (something I didn't do in my practice mocks) and if I couldn't get any question in less than 30 seconds, I'd skip it because I wouldn't have time to do the rest of the questions.

If you have any questions, ask away! I'm happy to answer any :D. I'm literally not gonna be doing anything today except watching Netflix. 😌

EDIT: I forgot to add in my experience with SJT!!! See what I mean, how irrelevant is this subsection haha.
