Not sure if this is true anymore. I know a few people who got WSU first round (1st pref) then switched prefs to get UNSW 2nd round for 2025 entry.
I'm curious - the people who switched prefs and got UNSW 2nd round
1. Did they do UNSW 1st-round interview or 2nd-round interview?
2. Did they get UNSW 2nd-round unbonded or bonded?

I'm afraid not so^ for UNSW.
UNSW has advised if you qualify for UNSW 1st round (whether bonded or unbonded) but not an offer via UAC due to getting a higher pref, UNSW *removes* you from UNSW applicants pool.

Whereas those missing out on 1st round continue on in the pool to compete against the 2nd-round interviewees for the spots UNSW sets aside for 2nd-round offers (their ATAR+UCAT+Interview combo might be better than the 2nd-round offers cutoff).

Hi A1,

what about USYD? if i put unsw first, and then put unsw as my 2nd option, and given that I do well enough in my HSC to get a 99.95, will I still be eligible for USYD and UNSW?

I also just had a question regarding how EAS works for UNSW. Are EAS applicants (and all other applicants that do not have additional adjustment points added to their selection rank) pooled separately? i.e. there is a quota for how many EAS applicants are accepted?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if this score would be enough for any uni? I'm NSW, non GWS.

Hi, no problem between USyd & UNSW since they release their place offers in different UAC rounds.
Remember that if you put USyd first and get USyd offer (sometime in December), accept then move it to a lower pref. Else you won't get any offer below USyd in the 10ish January offer round.

In earlier years before UNSW started the Gateway scheme, EAS was a separate pool (or had its own sub-quota within the Main pool).
Now with Gateway I have seen posted on MSO that EAS applicants are in the Main pool after getting the bonus added to their ATAR.

Your UCAT should be enough for WSU. Enough for UNSW if ATAR 99.50+, for Monash if 99.80+.
Depends where 2400 will land, if 96-97%ile it's borderline for JMP & Adelaide.
Likely not enough for the rest.

thank you A1. so, just confirming, if those are the only two med courses that i'm putting down, i don't have to swap any preferences around? my ucat is roughly in the 93rd-94th percentile range so i don't think there is much point putting down things like wsu and jmp

also, i know this is obviously all up to speculation, but how much have you generally seen EAS "add" to someone's selection rank? is it true that some eas's add more selection points than others? thank you.

You do need to have USyd below UNSW after accepting USyd. If USyd stays higher you won't get UNSW in the January round.

Theoretically you can start off with UNSW #1, USyd #2 then won't have to swap them around. Despite #2 you should still get USyd offer in December (since UNSW does not participate on that date). But I don't like to "play with fire" 😂

Once you've paid the fee for the UAC application why not put WSU/JMP in at lower prefs just in case?

It is true. I think there's info from UAC/UNSW or MSO regarding the bonus for each EAS category.

Hi guys, I did my ucat and got 2360+623.
VR 730
DM 730
QR 900
SJT 623

My predicted ATAR is 99+ (at least).
And I’m international student (in Syd), so I wonder if there’s any chance I can get into UNSW Medicine? Thx.

A1 replies: MSO doesn't have much info on international admissions.
But your marks relative to domestic admissions I'd say you have great chances. Good luck.

Hello I am wondering if someone would be able to answer some questions for me

I am looking to apply to UNSW Medicine (amongst other universities), I received a UCAT score of 2470 + 732 SJT. I have completed a bachelors with a final GPA of 6.2. For UNSW it says I need a GPA equivalent to a 96 ATAR, I am assuming 6.2 is too low, but would someone be able to confirm?

The 96 ATAR is an "academic" requirement for UNSW eligibility on paper. Even back to my year 2016 we have always needed 99+ to be competitive, which has now risen to 99.50+.

The equivalent of 99.50+ is unfortunately GPA 6.5+. Focus on WSU and JMP instead with your excellent UCAT. Best of luck.

Since you've completed a degree I would add Curtin to the list (applying under the graduate pathway) and sit Casper

If you're open to studying interstate that is :)

looking to apply to Curtin (have registered for Casper), JMP (I can access biomed pathway), WSU, JCU and Curtin! Open to more suggestions if anyone knows another uni that takes UCAT + tertiary results :) Thanks for your advice!

I think JMP (doubly so with biomed pathway) and WSU (if high enough VR) are your best shots with your GPA/UCAT.

You have completed Biomedicine in JMP Newcastle? in that case UCAT cut-off much lower right so you should be fine. However I have been told only ucat cut-off less but they won't consider you as rural while evaluating for offers.

Hey guys,
I’m a non-standard applicant studying at UNSW with a 96.30 ATAR and just got my UCAT of 2340: (VR 770, DM 820, QR 750, SJT 664)
I’m GWS, NSW.

What med schools do you reckon I should apply for and focus on interview preparation for? What unis should I apply to? any interstate etc?
All I've heard is WSU & Notre Dame. Any suggestions for what else I can apply to? Is it worth opening a QTAC acc etc
Thanks

Hi guys I’m from wa, I have a ucat score of 2410: 770, 820, 820, (636), with a predicted of 99. What are my shots at wa and interstate med and dent unis? My parents have family tax benefit A and B so is eligible for EAS in nsw so would UNSW be likely since my atar should be boosted to .95?

___________
A1 replies: I have replied re. UWA in the UWA thread. I don't know about Curtin & NotreDame.
If you get EAS you should get UNSW interview. And Monash if you get SEAS.
If 2410 lands around 96-97%ile you're borderline for JMP & Adelaide. Doesn't look enough for UQ/WSU, and Monash if no SEAS.

Hello, I got a 2310 and am from Townsville. Just wondering if that's a competitive score for medicine after I graduate year 12.

___________
A1 replies: Being from Townsville are you eligible for rural entry? It'll help greatly with JCU application anyway.
If rural you'll get interviews everywhere.
If not rural, 2310 = around 92-93%ile should be enough for UQ interview (and possibly CQU/USQ). Borderline for UNSW if you get ATAR 99.50+.

You should get WSU-GWS interview. Also UNSW if you have GPA 6.5+.
Likely not enough for JMP. JCU is unpredictable. I'm not sure about Notre Dame.

guys does 730 vr 690 dm 900 qr get any uni in aus (gws nsw hs) (470 sjt)? Thanks
With a bit of luck you could get WSU interview (i.e. if the GWS cutoff drops a little this year). The 470 SJT is a worry though.
UNSW interview is possible if you get ATAR 99.50+.
Other than those I don't see a chance elsewhere unless you get ATAR 99.85+.

Hi, I have my UCAT in a week and for those who have got rlly impressive VR scores (well done!), I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to really ace that section because I really want to get into WSU but VR is that hurdle of being inconsistent with VR
