Post-UMAT 2018 Debrief Thread

Home and away was confusing as it wasn’t clear whether a team who was playing away could still have 2A Under it or if it was only 2A if it was a home game

I remmeber being able to work through this one quite well following the given restrictions hahah but the last question was confusing as you had to pick up that only one team had 2A so 2nd and 3rd games must both be A and A

idk if anyone remembers this but there was a s2 passage where a woman who abandoned her kid was speaking about her colleague, and at one point she says mind your own business "thank you very much," and the q was like, what was her reason for saying this: a) to apply forceful humour b) to show open hostility c) to show restrained defiance and d) some random shit. What did you guys put?

I feel like I smashed s1 and s3 out of the park

S2 was ok performance but we can never tell

I realllllly think I’ll get a really good score but I won’t know until the date

All my timing worked out perfectly and I finish right at the last minute

Idk how to feel because I really think s1 and s3 was really easy (this is my 3rd umat now maybe that’s why).

Last year I had to guess 15-20 questions and the ones I did attempt I felt like were OK not that good. Now I attempted all questions fully and finished on time andddd I felt like I smashed.

Aaahhhh I’m happy but I hope this extreme happiness doesn’t turn upside down during result time. I was getting 75-80% during my prep in exams so hopefully I did the same todayyyy. Aaaaaaa

Also I think Acer exam 4 had exactly the same difficulty as the real thing (in my opinion) but the questions didn’t take as much time.

For the passage with the guy and his wife who'd paid for his research trip, one of the questions was about how he felt from lines X to Y. I found that S2 question particularly difficult, as well as the one with the passages from the 2 fathers and being asked to compare the second father's experience in relation to the first (but I chose that he felt more appreciative of the lessons he'd learnt by being around others or such).

Was it I, II, both or neither?
What was the X value for juggling balls?

1. I got 10 but a few friends are saying 9. I think the trick is to add the liquids in order of decreasing density, because if a liquid doesn't mix it will sink to where it's at in the density anyway. That way you just look at the P values straight from the table, and I think I got 3 different mixtures? leading to 10 layers. But a friend did the same thing as I did and got 9 so now I'm really paranoid that I miscounted and got 10 instead of 9

2. Which question for I II both neither was this? I had two of these questions.

Yes. It was unclear but became clearer in that multi where it asked for one with 0A and one with 2A. If it was the other way round, that wouldn't have been possible

Yea the middle game would be classified as 2A if it had an away game before and afterwards

I picked that too and it sorta seemed that they were making fun of him in a way. The difficult thing is there is not much evidence we can gauge from Herman himself so I'm really not sure hahahah. Can LMG! Mana contribute their thoughts on this?

This is difficult for me to comment on without knowing the answer options, unfortunately.

I got this cartoon as a s2 question with the exception that it was black and white :

I cant remember the exact question stem so maybe someone can help me out but I ended up tossing between his comfort zone being a place for him to get away from any anxieties or discomforts, or him feeling rejected and lonely. What did people pick for this question?

FWIW, and not having seen the answer options or the actual wording of the question/s: I agree with someone earlier who said if Herman had been looking out at the crowd with a dejected look, then rejected and lonely could be it, but given he’s facing the wall/has his back to the crowd, I think the option about escaping discomfort seems more likely (of the two options mentioned, I obviously have no idea what the other two options were so this quick evaluation comes with MANY caveats!).

The last question of the stem where it asked which option would decrease susceptibility the most, I put D(?) which was something like immunising the already immunised population with a second shot and also immunising the unimmunised population? something like that? sorry guys if this is real fuzzy

I treated it like minesweeper, you only worry about the adjacent games and not the game itself. Everything was very straightforward after that imo

I solved it mathematically and got 6/100 so 6%
