I just wanted to get a bit of an idea where I stand. I got a 98.55 atar in 2016 and I'll probably end my second year of uni at 6.2 or 6.3 GPA. I have very very long history of financial disadvantage, lived in housing commission houses, divorced parents, received (and still am receiving) centrelink payments, smith family scholarship, went to low SES area school etc. UNSW has the SCATS program which accounts for all these things and gives bonus points accordingly.

Do you know what my ATAR equivalent score would look like for UNSW entry?

I just posted this to say good on you for achieving what you have given your circumstances.

Hey guys,
For monash, is volunteering with an Aboriginal aged care or a general aged care better? They're both 10 mins away and I like the vibes inc staff of both of them. Problem is that they have their volunteering on at the same time weekly, so it's not possible to go to both or even do 1 week at one place and then the other week at the other place. So they're pretty much exactly the same except for who I'll be volunteering for. And it's not like I have a preference or special interest for one. Right now, it comes down to what the interviewers would prefer.

I need to reply to them and let then know asap, so any insights would be great.

I am in NSW, default application is thro UAC
I heard one can apply Griffiths Uni Med through UAC or QTAC
What is the difference in applying thro UAC or QTAC?

The difference is you have to pay around $50 for the QTAC application.

But wait... there's more to it. Assuming you will also apply for NSW schools med, including Griffith in UAC you will only get one place offer out of them. Doing separately you may get one UAC offer + one QTAC offer then choose.

It's also possible like in past years that Griffith first round cutoff was the same (say 99.80) for both QTAC & UAC. Then they had a few declines and later offered to 99.75 or even 99.70 but to QTAC applicants only. So I think it's $50 well spent.

Thank you so much

I realise most Uni ask prospective students to apply for their medicine courses to the Uni directly.
Like MBBS at UNSW
Suppose I applied to UNSW directly for their MBBS course already, I still need to put MBBS UNSW in my UAC preference, right?

Thanks

Absolutely, you need to do both.

The common practice is you apply for any/all NSW unis not directly but via UAC. List your 5-6 preferences in the UAC application.

For certain courses including UNSW Med the uni/medschool requires you to also submit a separate direct application to them. This is to provide the medschool extra information about you that's not collected by UAC. UNSW Med does not mark/judge this direct application (but JCU for example does, heavily!)

Btw are you applying as an international student? (asking since UNSW course is now BMedSt + MD rather than MBBS).

I am in NSW, do I apply all interstate Medicine courses thro UAC or thro the UAC equivalent in different state?
Eg. VTAC for Monash
QTAC for JCU
SATAC for UAdelaide
etc.
Or can they be all applied thro UAC?

Which is the best way ?

Thanks

You cannot apply for interstate courses through UAC, you will need to apply to each state's system (or in the case of Tasmania, apply to UTas directly).

Really appreciate your help. But can you elaborate a bit more on this:

“UNSW Med does not mark/judge this direct application “

Thanks

They use it to guide the interview (apparently, and if you get one), but don’t use it to determine if you get an interview in the first place.
