Adelaide UAdel Medicine: General Discussion

I received an email from Adelaide Uni saying

"Please note that most offers for our Medicine, Dental Surgery, Oral Health, Allied Health, or Veterinary Bioscience degrees will be made in the following round on Friday 14 January, 2022. This has been done to take into account possible delays with Year 12 results from some schooling systems in Australia."

NSW ATARs are released to students on the 20th of January. Do universities have access to our ATARs before us? (I doubt this). That is, will NSW students will be receiving any offers on the 14th of Jan? Or will NSW students receive offers on the 24th of January, which is the next SATAC offer round?

I am just trying to wrap my head around the rationale behind delaying the main offer round for health science degrees to the 14th of January, to account for delays in NSW/ACT. If they had delayed the main offer round to the 24th of January, it would make more sense, because this is after the NSW ATAR release date.

I am just trying to work out if NSW students will be put at a disadvantage because of our late ATAR release date, that is all. Thanks!!

I would contact Adelaide and ask this. I don't think they'd have access but they might reserve spots from the wording

I believe that they do (though only by a day or two maybe). This has been evidenced by USyd offering interviews previously to people who didn’t yet know they’d scored 99.95. I think we even had an MSO user in this boat a couple of years ago.

Ooh I see! I wish UNSW did this, so we have a less hectic day 😂 (or, it's possible that because of the unprecedented ATAR delay the universities don't know before us either this year, who knows?? haha), but thanks so much for your reply :)

I agree, I think UAdel has reserved spots for NSW/ACT applicants. I looked into this a bit more, and found that SA ATARs come out on the 13th of Dec, and the main SATAC offer round is 21st of Dec. I think UAdel would release all health science offers on the 21st of Dec too, if they didn't care about NSW/ACT applicants. I think that they have definitely reserved some places for NSW/ACT applicants, however, didn't want the others to wait too long, hence they chose 14th of Jan instead of 24th of Jan 😂.

Still very grateful.
They've not used the 21st of December before. It's always been the 13th or the 14th for dent/med

Ohh, I didn't know that! The exact wording of their email was "The majority of offers will be made by SATAC on Tuesday 21 December (via email up until 5pm on the day), however please note that most offers for our Medicine, Dental Surgery, Oral Health, Allied Health, or Veterinary Bioscience degrees will be made in the following round on Friday 14 January, 2022. This has been done to take into account possible delays with Year 12 results from some schooling systems in Australia."

I had no idea that it had always been 14th of Jan for Med/Dent. But you can see why I thought they delayed the date from 21 Dec to 14 Jan from the wording of their email, right? 😂

Had a careful read of the email again, and noticed these new details:
Mon 3rd Jan, 2022 - IB results released
Fri 14 Jan, 2022 - SATAC Offer Round (first round to include IB students)
Main offer round for Medicine, Dental Surgery, Oral Health, Allied Health, and Veterinary Bioscience degrees.

This coupled with the earlier sentence "This has been done to take into account possible delays with Year 12 results from some schooling systems in Australia." makes me think that UAdel was referring to IB students, not NSW/ACT students.. Looks like they didn't care about us after all..

What’s surprising to me is that they are doing main round offers for other courses on the 21st dec. it’s always been later!!

Hi,

Adjustment points from UES applies to every university and is not specific to a single university, right?

That is, for all people whose adjusted atar is 99.95 for Flinders, their adjusted atar is also 99.95 for Adelaide medicine?

Adelaide doesn’t count ATAR adjustment factors, only raw ATAR
UES is considered by both Adelaide and Flinders for their medicine courses, smoothbrain you may be thinking of bonus points for doing certain subjects (spec maths, second language etc.) which are not applicable.

Hi I was expecting an email from SATAC today about my UAdelaide application because I received an email from SATAC on Dec 7 saying "The next offer round for the 2022 admission year is Tuesday 21 December 2021. This offer round will consider all your preferences."

However, after skimming through some of the previous posts on this forum would I be right in saying that the UAdelaide (and Flinders, I presume) medicine offer round is actually on Jan 14 not Dec 21?

Hi I think only a very small handful of Tertiary Transfer offers were sent out, no school leaver offers are sent until the First Round Jan 14th offers I don’t believe :)

Repeating what I posted in another thread from the Adelaide uni website:
"For our 2022 intakes, offers to our Medicine, Dental Surgery, Oral Health, Allied Health, and Veterinary Bioscience degrees will be made throughout January and February. Although some offers will be issued in December, the majority of offers to these degrees will be made from the offer round on 24 January, 2022.

Occasionally people may receive early offers. These are generally for adult entrants who aren't waiting for their for results and instead receive offers based on TAFE results, their GPA from previous university study, or their selection rank (formerly known as ATAR) from an earlier year."

Seems like they're delaying the majority of offers for the release of HSC results
