Adelaide UAdel Medicine: General Discussion

Yeah ngl it's kinda dumb that they implemented a 50% SA interviewee subquota but not a 50% SA offer subquota, what a way to give applicants false hope. That said, if someone was a god at interviews but would've just missed the regular 90s UCAT cutoff, this change would've given them the chance they needed.
I’m not actually sure that anyone who missed the 90s cut off received one though

I think I saw a discussion somewhere on MSO that the reason for this is to not break laws or something? Since they are technically not full-on discriminating based on state as it is an interview but not offer quota? Similar to what Monash is doing I guess.

Except Monash is interviewing local and interstate applicants separately, allowing plenty of room for offer discrimination i.e. conveniently only reserving 20-30/300 spots for interstaters and making them compete among themselves for one (hence the ridiculous cutoffs).

Two people from my school got in with 99 atar + 2800 UCAT and a approx 98 atar+2750 ucat. Both got bonded

Both SA non-rural school leavers
Well that proves that it IS still possible to land an offer with a slightly lower UCAT score. Must've been killer interviews, congrats!

Wait what do you mean? The degree of bias is higher for monash (80/20, 90/10? instead of 50/50 interview spots) but both unis are interviewing locally and interstaters seperately no?

Edit: Oops nvm I think I get what you mean🤦‍♂️, they don't have full dibs/chance on ALL spots like the Adelaide peeps do

Is offers for Adelaide uni still coming out? SATAC says offers are coming out every tuesdays and thursdays but haven't seen anyone posting this week.

They're only likely making very minimal offers now as people decline so the chances of us getting much more data here at MSO are pretty slim. We usually get about 5-10% of data reported here (and some Unis, ie. Curtin, Flinders, etc, much less), so they'd need to make 10-20 offers for us to get a single one reported here, which is unlikely at this stage. We'd just have to get lucky with the (maybe handful) of people still to get an offer being MSO members.

Which offer round did they get in?
99.8 and 2800 and no offer here :(
Both second rounds,
99.95 and 2950 also no offer here :(
Don’t know what happened in the interviews
Hoping for an Adelaide bonded offer to replace my current flinders offer, but the chances r pretty slim unfortunately:(

I'm hoping for either flinders or adelaide bonded/non-bonded to get my first offer :(

99.75 and 2910

they do that? Might give them a call tomorrow, or maybe just await with suspense. Would asking do anything to increase likelihood?
No honestly I wouldn’t ring if you haven’t already they are giving out very inaccurate information people were told lower ranks than me and have offers yet I do not have one. They told one person they were ranked 500 and laughed at them but that person got an offer lol

I think you should still stay positive with those scores but it’s true you never know. Are your friends rural?

And orientation?
O week is the week starting Monday 22nd February (next Monday). Check out the full O week schedule here. Of particular interest are the welcome talks and campus tours Monday morning, and the health & medical sciences faculty days on wednesday and thursday (including the AMSS O'-Day on the Wednesday- refer to their Facebook page for more details on that).

Hi guys,

I am seeking for volunteering or role at aged care/gp clinics and I have been struggling to find one as most of the places I have contacted got back to me and said that they are not seeking new volunteers due to covid and etc. Hence, I was wondering if volunteering experience in the medical field is essential to receive a good interview outcome? I have asked my friends and some of them told me that they got into adl med with no previous interview experience so I am very confused and lost.

Thank you in advance
