Hi,

Applying for: (Medicine)
Application Type: (School leaver)
Predicted ATAR: 99.90/99.95 predicted (fingers crossed!)
UCAT Percentile Rank: Borderline 98% - likely 97% with the slight positive skew + annotation for technical issues (3mins lost)
VR: 760
DM: 840
QR: 880
AR: 720
Total: 3200
SJ: 636 (or something like that)
Current State: WA
Applying to: Group of 8
Rural Applicant: (no)
GWS Applicant: (no)
Indigenous Applicant: (no)
Other: (none)

Q1: What are my chances of landing Monash interstate with a 99.9? Or UNSW? I know my scores are relatively high, but how important is the interview for these competitive interstate positions? I assume the annotation isn't going to mean anything ultimately...
Q2: Asking for a friend - with a 3070 UCAT (95%) and 99.85/99.9 predicted, how competitive is he for UNSW and Monash?
Note: Thanks LMG for taking the time to write this out for everybody, and I hope you enjoyed your dinner! :)

Specific Question: Would it be worth applying interstate/at UQ or would it be best just to focus on ATAR for the rest of the year to maximize chances of Griffith/JCU? Thanks a lot for your help!
I would definitely still apply to UQ because who knows. I would also apply to UAdel, Curtin, UWA, and UTAS. But ATAR will also be important for you (and is the only thing still in your control) so definitely give that your best shot to maximise Griffith.

Best of luck!

You (and your friend) should get UNSW interviews. Monash is more of an unknown as interstaters. We didn't have much reported here last year to base advise on. Interview is very important at both.

And you're probably right re. the annotation, unfortunately.

You should get interviews at all NSW interviews. Monash is an unknown but will likely require an ATAR closer to the 99.95 end than the 99.0 end of that range. UQ and UAdel should invite you to interview, likewise UWA and Curtin. UTas is worth an application as it's free so nothing to lose. Note: deleted UAdel advice as I'd misremembered the interstate requirement for last year which was actually 96th, not 93rd as I'd mistakenly thought.

Good luck!!

Your ATAR range makes it impossible to answer interview chances for Monash (though, tbh, as a local, even 98.00 is probably competitive with a 96th%ile), UNSW, UQ, UWA, Curtin.

But you will get interviews for JMP, JPM, UAdel (hopefully).

Good luck!!

You will get interviews at all unis that have them.
99.75/99th is more than enough for a local student CSP at Monash assuming you don't mess up the interview.
Best of luck!

Interviews at all Universities (Med and Dent) that hold them with the likely exception of Monash and UAdel (though definitely still apply).
Best of luck!!

UQ needed 93rd%ile from memory, last year, so fingers crossed for slight movement on that front. Griffith will need a high 99 ATAR and JCU will depend on your written application.

Interstate, your best options are probably UWA and Curtin.

Best of luck!

Specific Question: do I have a shot at getting a Monash interview (ive seen 99.85 + 98th rejected last year but how about with my SJ?). Also how about WSU, JMP, Curtin and UQ dent ?
Monash is largely a complete unknown for interstate applicants. You'll just have to apply and hope for the best. You will get a JMP interview invite and possibly also UNSW, but probably not JPM unless it drops a smidge from last year (750 needed). Curtin should invite you to interview. Do you have subject bonuses for UQ Dent?

Good luck!

You should get Med interviews at UQ, JMP, UWA, Curtin.
If UES bumps you to 99.95, a Flinders offer is possible.
Dent interviews for UAdel, UWA, possibly CSU. Griffith are also interviewing this year, but we have no idea yet what the requirements will be.

Good luck!
