[Undergrad] UMAT 2017 Results Discussion

To the Moderators, have you had any members or know of anyone who have received offers for Flinders Med in the past with a low 70's umat and 99.95 atar?

To give you an indication Nalyd who got Flinders wrote "My offer with 99.95 & 68%ile (S1+S2 = 111) was one of the last few in my cohort. I really don't think there would have been more than 3-4 offers after me".

From my perspective, in my year an MSOer with 99.85/130 S1+S2 got Flinders while my 99.80/156 did not. That says in Flinders calculation 0.05 ATAR is worth more than 26 UMAT points. Extrapolate that => 99.90/.95 should get offers with S1+S2 as low as 105.

Level 3 is quite a step up - I scored 158 level 2 excellence credits in level 2 and only 77 in level 3. I'm in year 13 at the moment (did NCEA a year early) so I'm sitting more level 3s to boost my atar

Hi hotcrossbun, I am confident that I will be able to score at least 100 e credits at level 3. I have received all excellences in my internals and for my mock exams.

Hi,
Can someone please explain entry into UWA?
Is it undergrad? Does you need to be living in Uwa to apply?

Overall UMAT Score: 160
Section One: 53
Section Two: 58
Section Three: 48
Overall Percentile Rank: 67
Estimated ATAR/GPA: Not sure
Preferred University: UQ
Course Type: Medicine
Application type: school leaver
State: Qld
Rural: yes
ATSI: no
GWS: no
Other Bonuses: yes - 5 bonus ranks for RAS & EAS

Question/s: Do you think there's a chance I could get into UQ?
Hi,
Assuming the previous years' information is reliable and you get a ATAR of 99/OP 1, you should be good :) But it's pretty borderline even if the minimum score doesn't increase so definitely have back ups!

Pathways and entry requirements

Any chances at the below unis for an interview guys? :)

Overall UMAT Score: 170
Section One: 55
Section Two: 55
Section Three: 61
Overall Percentile Rank: 81
Estimated GPA: Approx. 5.8
Preferred University: JMP, UNSW, WSU
Application type: Non-standard
State: QLD

Rural: Yes

ATSI: No
GWS: No

Obviously a non-school leaver, and graduating this year from my degree. I have heard that I might get a bonus based on financial hardship as I am currently on government funding/centrelink on top of rurality? (Know very little about that so any insight would be great)

What are my chances for getting interviews at any of the universities offering medicine? Thank you!!

Hi everyone, don't know if it this is updated information or not but when I google Monash Uni undergraduate entry requirements, under additional requirements it states that a minimum of 50 is required in each section as a prerequisite.

Interviews are extremely likely for UNSW and Monash with those scores. :)

UWA has two separate admission streams - provisional for school leavers (who are offered an MD place 3 years in advance) and grad-entry for graduates of any degree. It's open to everyone WA or interstate.

Within these are two sub-streams: doing UWA MedSc + 3-year MD, or any other degree + 4-year MD.

Is this information provided within the current admission criteria for Monash 2018? If so, can you please link; this has been an area of ongoing debate. Also, does it refer to rural applicants at all? Thank you!

Quick point of clarification: the estimated ATAR you've included, does that include the 4 bonus points (that may not come into play at non-Qld universities)? Assuming that is DOES include those points:

You may just be lucky for UQ (bonded UMAT cut off last year was 181!). You'd need to push your ATAR higher (99.80) for Griffiths. Expect interviews at JMP (UNE or UoN) and UNSW (depending on removing the impact of the 4 bonus points from your ATAR, if this is what needs to be done. It would need to remain very close to or at 99.0). JCU will depend on your written application.

No, the estimated ATAR does not include my 4 bonus points.

Hello! As I understand it, EAS etc is for school leavers, but if someone else can confirm/deny, please do!

Rurality is definitely in your favour though. You are very likely to get an interview at JMP. I'd need to know your ATAR to gauge your UNSW chances (regardless of how long ago you did it), and you're probably just below the rural cut off for UWS, unfortunately.

No, the estimated ATAR does not include my 4 bonus points.

Right-o! In that case, if it pushes you in the direction of 99.8, Griffiths is on the cards in addition to what I already said, and your UNSW interview invite is lot more likely. Congratulations.

To help clear a few misconceptions spotted earlier.

- Someone asked if their scores could get a 2nd-round interview: Second i-rounds are not intended as supplemental so does not mean one may get invited with lower scores. They are mostly for interstate students for one purpose - they may have a home state offer by then & save the travel costs of interstate interviews.

In a small number of cases, your predicted ATAR (or the uni did not receive one) did not make the cutoff combo for an interview but after ATAR release your actual does. Then you get a 2nd round invite.

- What is the cutoff for UMAT 100%ile: it's around 210, but essentially only for "bragging rights". Any 209 not getting 100%ile needs not feel bad, the unis count your overall score so your 209 is 209 to them. You will not lose any ranking advantage by just missing out 100%ile.

I think there was one more but can't recall what it was. Will come back if I remember.

Thank you for this. No mention of whether it applies to rural students, but it does state all applicants twice (in the lead in sentence, and in the dot point in question) so...
Would this increase my chance of getting in as a someone who doesn't have a brilliant percentile, but had over 50 in each section? (58, 55, 56)

Any reply I can give you would be utterly speculative, but, to be honest, I've never been shy about a little spec :D

So, warning, the below is speculation only!

It might, but I'd think only by a very small amount. By and large (with the caveat that there are always, always exceptions), people with one section below 50, tend to have lower scores overall. Observation tells us this. It's rare to see someone with, say, 63/37/71 (171), which is 2 more than your score and therefore someone who could be ahead of you (assuming the same ATAR) if there were no 50/50/50 rule in place.

ETA: at the end of the day, speculation can be fun (I definitely enjoy it) but it won't change anything.
