'What papers should I do at UoO for graduate entry' Chat, Enquiries and Help

Hey guys,

I am doing my third year degree in Information Science. I am looking for some easy 200/300 level papers to take this second semester. The papers recommended in this forum is mostly for Biomedical science degree. And I cannot take the 200 level papers like HUNT or MICRO because I dont have the pre-requisites. Can you guys recommend any easy papers?

This is my list:
- COMP210
- MAOR202
- TOUR218
- CLTE204
-TOUR217

Any suggestions on these papers?

Thanks

Hi,

What 100-level papers other than what's required for INFO major have you done and passed so far?

Hi,

Hi Stuart,

I have done all the 100 level info papers, and 200 level papers except info203 which I am doing this semester. I need more 200 level papers, which are easy to boost my GPA.

Thanks

Hi,

Are you saying that you have completed no other 100-level papers? If you are looking at S2 200-level papers with no other 100-level papers under your belt, you are very limited with the options.

Also, there aren't many "easy" papers available. Apart from those a select few, no papers are deemed easy to everyone.

Have you done any 100-level MATH/STAT/BIOL/ZOOL/CHEM/PHSI or any of the HSFY papers? Any arts papers?

Hi all, bit stuck with what papers to do next semester

Third year PHSL Bsci major here, need to take up 2 more papers (can do one non-science one) and was wondering if anyone knows any good ones? Have been pondering on MICR223, HUNT223 and MAOR202. After minoring in PHAL this first semester, I realise it's not for me aye

Cheers!

Edit: Also, for those who are also looking at 2nd year papers next semester, I took the following papers last year with the respective scores: ANAT242 (86), PHSL232 (75), PHSL233 (90) and PHAL212 (87)

Side note: I love reading all these random paper abbreviations and trying to decipher them. Some are obviously pretty clear cut, but HUNT? And PHAL?

No idea.

As you were...

Hi,

It depends on your strength but I would say MAOR202 would be the least favoured mainly due to the flexibility in assessment/marking.

If you did well in MICR221 and liked the structure then MICR223 would be a good choice. I believe it's a bit harder than 221 but still manageable. Many people enjoy 223 more than 221.

If I were you, I would be really cautious with HUNT223. It's not a hard paper (word on the street) but the content can be very dry/boring. Some people find it difficult to excel when the paper content/delivery is boring.

You still have a fair amount of time left until you have to fully commit so keep looking around. I hope you find good papers to do at the end of the day.

Good luck!

If you're mathematically inclined, STAT241 (and probably other STAT papers) is useful and isn't too bad.

If you would like to do STAT (given you have completed a 100-level STAT). I would recommend taking STAT210 before they get rid of it.
Hmm, I used to be confident with math but haven't done any since PHSI191. When they say a paper is a pre-requisite, can you talk to the department to get around it?

Hi,

I am going to guess you don't need to know much math to do STAT241. It is a practical paper on linear regression. You are not required/expected to understand any of the mathematics under pinning the methods discussed.

It will be very difficult to convince them to let you take any of the 200-level STAT papers without having done STAT110/115 (or equivalent).

Hey Everyone,

First time posting, not sure if this is the right place, apologies in advance. I am currently a third year BSC student, majoring in physiology and wanting to gain graduate entrance into either dentistry or medicine. Below are the list of papers I have done over my degree, so that anyone wanting to give suggestions can do so appropriately. I need some help with choosing two easy papers for second semester this year because I am quite lost to be honest. I have calculated that getting all A's in second semester will place me at a GPA of 7.7, therefore I want to get two A+'s which will push me towards guaranteed entrance GPA. If someone can please suggest some papers, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

1st Year: Hubs 191 (B+), 192(A-), PHSI191(B), CHEM191(A-), CELS191(A), EPI192(B-), STAT115(B), BIOC192(A).
2nd Year: PHSL251(A-), HUNT221(B+), BSNS108(A+), PHSL232(B+), PHSL233(A), BSNS107(A+), MART205(A-)
3rd Year: (so far) PHSL345(A), FORB201(A), PHSl342(B+), PHSL231(A)

PHSL342 didn't go as planned, but I have FORB201 luckily to fall back on, therefore I need to take four papers in second semester. The two PHSL papers are compulsory (344 and 343) so I need help choosing two other papers. One paper I have thought of is FINC206, which has the prerequistes BSNS107 and BSNS108 that I have completed. Both these papers I achieved A+ in so I am hoping it helps, but would love it if someone could give their opinion on it as well. Other then that, please recommend any other easy papers you guys think I should take. Also, what are my chance with a GPA 7.7 by the way?

Hi,

Welcome to MSO.

First of all, weighted-GPA of 7.7 would not guarantee an offer. It is strictly below the cut-off line from the previous years. It's likely that you will be wait-listed.

It's hard to recommend papers to people without knowing them in person but what are your strengths in terms of studying and assessments? There aren't many but there should be a few you might be able to choose from. More importantly, which subjects do you enjoy the most?
I haven't heard anything good about FINC206. I could recommend a STAT paper for you but it's hard to judge your interest/skills from your 115 grade.

Thank you for the quick reply, is 7.7 likely to get me in considering last years minimum GPA? Would you say maybe I should take four papers then to replace my PHSL342 to boost my GPA further? I do quite well in internals, but struggle more with finals exams. For example I was sitting at above 90% for both of PHSL342 and PHSL345 in internals, but then both my results dropped as above in the finals. Hmm, I would say my strengths are definitely internals. Regarding which type of content, I did well in cells (maybe microbiology 223) then? Also, BSNS papers are my strength, regarding FINC206 what bad things have you heard, if you dont min me asking. HUNT221 I didnt do well, but that was because I didn't try to be honest...I thought of it as my 8th paper but then due to the circumstances changing it had to be counted...I struggled with the hunt assignment but for the internals exam I got an A+ and finals I believe wasn't too bad either, the assignment really dragged my mark down, would you therefore suggest hunt223?

Thank You so much for the help.

Hey Everyone,

I'm not sure if this the right place to post this but I am in my third year of BSC Physiology and want some help choosing an easy level 200 paper. I am considering MICR222 or MICR223, first question is which one is easier out of these two and if there are any other recommendations you have, it will be greatly appreciated :)

Hi @sing-h ,

I took both of those papers in 2013. I found that they were both quite a bit harder than MICR221. I really didn't like MICR222 because I just wasn't interested in the content. That being said, the tests and exam questions were pretty straight forward. I would say that MICR222 is a bit easier than MICR223... but that MICR223 is far more interesting and useful.

If you've done PHAL211... then PHAL212 could be a good choice. It's a really interesting paper.

How can anyone give an overview on MICR222 and MICR223 and what they did to study and do well in these exams!?

Hi,

I am unable to give an overview of them but I am led to believe that if you did well in 221 and the same methods should apply for 223.

Have you checked out other posts about MICR223 on MSO? They should good appetisers while you wait for someone to post.

(Clavulanate might be able to give you some good, fresh insights.)

I have no idea if this is the right place to put this. Im not sure about trying for post grad entry into med but i need advice on adding papers to ss, s1 and s2 to boost my gpa for 2nd year Neuro.

right now i have
FORB201 SS

MICR221 S1
PHAL211 S1
PHSL231 S1

PSYC203 S2
ANAT242 S2
PSYC211 S2

Any recommendations for papers in s1 and s2?
Im thinking of adding Bioa201 or HUNT233 to ss but im not sure if its a good idea to have 2 papers in ss and 4 papers in s1 and s2.
