It seems like some universities have seperate course codes for bonded and non-bonded (e.g UWA)
If I put in a bonded place as a preference do I also need to put in non-bonded as a seperate preference to be considered for a non-bonded place first? Or am I automatically considered for a non-bonded place first?
And for unis that don't have different codes how do I show that I want to be considered for a bonded place?
And if I want to be considered for BMP am I considered for a non-bonded place first?

For universities that list the two separately, you need to list both in your preferences. You are only considered for a non-bonded place first if that’s how you preference them (for unis where it’s separate). For unis where it’s not separate, yes, you’re considered for CSP first.

For ones that have a combined code for both unbonded/bonded, you will be considered for both a unbonded place and a bonded place, with the assumption that you would prefer an unbonded position over a bonded position. Should you get an unbonded position instead of a bonded one with the combined code ones and you want a bonded place instead, you can email your university to sort that out.

For universities that have separate codes, you will only be considered for the codes that you have put in. Therefore, if you put in a unbonded UQ code but not a bonded one, should you not qualify/have a high enough rank for an unbonded position but a high enough rank for a bonded position, you will not be offered that bonded position. Similarly, if you put an bonded code but not an unbonded code, should you your rank be high enough for an unbonded spot, you will not be considered for it.

Yep I prefer the unbonded position over the bonded.
So for the combined ones, am I automatically considered for bonded if I'm not ranked high enough for an unbonded position? Or is there a part of the application process where I have to show that I would like a bonded position if I don't qualify for a unbonded position?

No you don't need to show it. It is automatically assumed. Note that some universities require you to do separate applications through their own university portals, in which this question does come up.

From reports, the BMP contracts aren’t sent out until well after the semester has started, so yes, you’ll be able to withdraw without breaching.

Yes, you can. Until you’ve actually signed the agreement then you haven’t any official legal obligations. I believe the interest would be accumulated from your first year of medical school, actually, as the “punishment” for breaching the agreement is having to pay back the government’s contribution to your degree (so much like HECS, this value would increase with interest each year). However, it would be best to contact the BMP department directly to confirm this.

I have been following this forum as we are entering the end of the HSC. I always wondered if BMP is something to consider. I'm concerned to be posted to places I am unfamiliar with. Any words of wisdom/insights ?

A BMP (as far as I'm aware) doesn't mean you will just be randomly placed somewhere you've never been before. You aren't allocated a rural area of the government's choosing to work in. Not to mention, as you move through medical school, you will have many opportunities to visit rural and remote locations and to complete placements so you will get a feel for many more areas other than where you currently live.

There are many reasons to consider whether you'd be willing to accept a BMP (keep in mind that not accepting one closes you off to 28.5% of all domestic medicine places), but the notion that you'll just be assigned a random location you've never heard of is not one of them. You may end up choosing to go to a location you've (currently) never heard of, but your training will expose you to many new places.

To add to LMG!'s response: I would say that you should be wary that in medical school and when you are a doctor, you won't always get a choice over where you are placed/working. There will be undersubscribed sites no matter what university you attend, and you will be required to do rural secondments etc when you are in the workforce. Be aware that this will be a part of medicine - sometimes you won't have as much choice over where you are placed as you would like.

Do you mean you didn’t tick that you wanted to be eligible for a bonded position and now you’d like to be? I’m not sure. You’d have to contact JMP and ask them.

Wouldn't be more convenient for you and the unis to contact them ASAP, rather than waiting until Stage 2 where you may not be able to change to bonded?

This isn't so relevant if you are talking within the context of working as a consultant with college letters, as opposed to junior doctors who are obliged to secondments as a part of their contracts. This is worth pointing out given that some people would be looking at fulfilling their ROSO as a consultant.
