Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

Their website just says ‘in line with UAC key dates’.
When I chatted with someone at WSU they said it was 25 Jan.
UAC Key Dates is showing 25 Jan for both CSU/WSU

Hi MSO, I have 3200 ucat and 99.80 atar. I prefer Griffith but think I have a better chance at UQ. I have UQ as my first preference at the moment. Would UQ change the ranking whether I have them as first or second preference?
Definitely not, UQ pref has no effect on your UQ ranking.
(But if UQ is still giving separate unbonded/bonded prefs you might want to consider placing UQ unbonded above Griffith, UQ bonded below).

Hi A1
Thanks for your reply. I noticed that too. But on their website, it says 12 Jan. So I don’t know what to believe anymore…

Hi all,
Just a question regarding UAC preferencing - do WSU and JMP take into consideration your UAC preferencing when making you an offer. If you were to place WSU first and JMP second on UAC, would that mean JMP is less likely to make an offer to you in January Round 1 (seeing as WSU are coming out with offers in January Round 2)?

Ultimately, what would be the most ideal order to put WSU and JMP on UAC?

They definitely don't take that into consideration.

What actually decides your WSU or JMP offer is where you are on WSU/JMP final ranking lists, which WSU/JMP send to UAC for UAC to sort out (if you are high on both lists) which one you get based on your preferences. WSU/JMP don't have the liberty to alter your rankings before sending to UAC.

Thanks A1 - so it is possible to receive a JMP offer in January Round 1 if your UAC preferences are 1. WSU and 2. JMP considering that WSU offers are apparently coming out in January Round 2?

Yes definitely. Since you won't get a WSU offer in the Jan round1 JMP will be your highest offer in that round if you qualify for one.

As an aside I speculate that WSU has deliberately chosen the Jan round2 after we MSO complained to UAC last year. If UNSW & WSU release in the same round we can only get one higher-pref offer not knowing whether the other one would be better (eg. getting UNSW Wagga bonded while forfeiting WSU unbonded). This year if qualified for both we can get UNSW round1 + WSU round2 then pick. Similarly for you between WSU & JMP.

Good evening, I read on the UAC site that offers are released at 0730… I’m assuming AEDT. Has this been people’s experiences previously that they have received their offers at the time specified by UAC, or have they trickled out over the course of the day like interviews?

No, they should be there when UAC opens.

Hi,
If you get a med offer, can you only accept it once UAC opens (at 7:30am)? The email I got has a link for accepting your offer but when I follow the directions, it eventually says that I have no current offers (in unsw 'Accept Online').

Hi all,

I got a jmp offer this morning @ UoN and put it as my first pref (mainly because of different offer rounds). I have no particular preference between unsw or jmp med, but I'm wondering how to secure my jmp spot if I do decide to go ahead with a unsw interview (I'm interstate). Would I accept the jmp offer and then move unsw to first pref? Also, any thoughts on doing so? My current jmp offer is unbonded, so there is a risk of getting bonded @ UNSW... Also any major drawbacks to picking jmp over unsw?

Also, just to verify, can I accept med offers from multiple states (like do they allow for this) and then later unenroll from any I don't want anymore?

Hi, I have just been offered a place for my second preference at JCU in Townsville, but I am wondering if I can conditionally accept the offer to still be considered for my first preference for the JCU Cairns campus? This is the first year they are offering it in cairns so I am a bit unsure.

Hi all,
Just curious as to any advice with preferencing between Monash CSP Rural School Leaver entry (clinical training in Year 3, 4, and part of year 5 all in regional or rural Victoria) vs Monash CSP Bonded place? Any clear advantages to doing one over the other? Will one likely have a larger impact on my future career progression (e.g., specialities, etc.) than the other?

Cheers.

Hey guys! Not too sure what to put on my QTAC application preferences so any advice would be appreciated! I am a non-rural QLD school leaver student, and I got 3380 UCAT and my predicted ATAR is high 99. I'm planning to apply everywhere but I am definitely most interested in UQ -if I put unbonded, can I also be considered for bonded or is it definitely necessary to put down as a preference? Also, for CQU and USQ, are they all separate interviews from UQ as well? Thank you!

Hi, I was hoping to get some help on preferencing. So currently I'm thinking of preferencing WSU --> Newcastle --> UNSW (all of which have their main offer round at the same time?) but I had a few questions:

1. If I get WSU unbonded it's perfect but if I get WSU bonded from reading this thread am I right to conclude that I have no hopes for a UNSW offer (I can just preference it higher because they specifically deny that) or a Newcastle offer (As they don't have a second round)

2. If I don't get WSU and I get Newcastle bonded offer at a campus I don't want would I be able to reject it and take my chances for a UNSW offer in the same offer round?

The general answer to this is:

1. If you fail to qualify for a UNSW offer in round1, but close enough to the round1 cutoff that you qualify for round2 offer, then yes you get UNSW round2 (regardless what else you got round1). But likely you'd get UNSW bonded anyway.

2. If you qualify for UNSW as well as WSU or JMP round1, UNSW will treat you as having declined UNSW and won't consider you again.

3. Worst scenario for you is you qualify for WSU bonded while (without you knowing) UAC "declines" your UNSW unbonded on your behalf. We have raised this issue with both UAC and UNSW but they don't see it as their problem to deal with.

Best we can hope for is WSU will release round1 offers on 21-Dec and UNSW on 11-Jan, then potentially you can receive WSU and UNSW separately on different dates.

Hi MSO, I'm a NSW applicant and I've been waitlisted for consideration for UNSW's January round interviews. I currently have 1. UNSW 2. WSU 3. JMP in my preferences. The UAC key dates website indicate that WSU and JMP are giving out offers in January 1st round.

Just to be safe for January 1st round offers, should I place WSU and JMP before UNSW on the list, since UNSW won't give me an offer in that round anyway? Or would placing UNSW 3rd on the list disadvantage me with possibly getting an interview offer, because I heard UNSW cares about where you've put them on the list?

The only downside of placing UNSW first pref in this situation was *in the past*, if you qualify for a WSU/JMP place offer in the first round UAC would withhold it (not stripping, just delaying) until the first-pref UNSW outcome is known. UAC no longer does that so there's no downside.

Your heard-of disadvantage if placing UNSW 3rd is most likely untrue. However given there's no downside I suggest to leave UNSW at 1st.

Hi, I understand that if I place UNSW below another uni like WSU in preferences, and I qualify for a WSU offer, then UNSW does not give me an offer at all.
Is this true for the reverse? If I placed WSU below UNSW, then would my receiving of a UNSW offer forfeit me a potential WSU offer?
I’m just a bit worried as I’d like to have the chance to see whether I receive bonded or unbonded offers for either uni before deciding.
Thank you in advance!
