Admissions Centres Preferencing: General Discussion

Hi, I understand that if I place UNSW below another uni like WSU in preferences, and I qualify for a WSU offer, then UNSW does not give me an offer at all.
That^ is overall correct but to be precise - if you also qualify UNSW would list you as eligible for an offer, it's UAC upon seeing your WSU higher pref who decides not to give you the UNSW.

Is this true for the reverse? If I placed WSU below UNSW, then would my receiving of a UNSW offer forfeit me a potential WSU offer?
Yes the reverse is also true.

I’m just a bit worried as I’d like to have the chance to see whether I receive bonded or unbonded offers for either uni before deciding.
We have discussed this dilemma^ a dozen times on MSO. I have brought it privately to UNSW Med's attention. Their response was .... tough, nothing they can/will do to resolve!!

One way you can help yourself is if you can swindle or request UNSW to change your interview to second round. This would allow you to potentially get WSU 1st round & UNSW 2nd round then choose between unbonded/bonded.

Hi, I had a query regarding changing UAC preferences. I've sat interviews at UNSW, WSU + Newcastle Med and offers for all these are coming out on Jan 11th.

According to UAC, the change of preferences deadline for this round is Jan 4th. I just wanted to confirm that if I change my preferences on UAC by that date, that won't disadvantage me at all in terms of ranks or anything? Only asking cos I've heard some people say that changing preferences this late may impact you negatively but I don't know how valid their claims are

Nope, won’t be an issue. As long as you’re only changing preferences, not adding new things* (and definitely not removing them)!

*that have a deadline that has passed

Hi,

I am currently applying for Sunshine Coast Uni in QLD. I have also interviewed at UQ.

My ATAR for USC, 99.90, should hopefully be above the cutoff this year. My question is, is there some risk if I put UQ first and USC second on the list?

For example, if I am rejected from UQ, is it possible that USC will have already finalized their list of ~20 students by the time my application shifts to the next preference? I'm so confused 😭

Sorting out what you get from your preferences is QTAC's job, not USC.

USC doesn't finalise their 20 chosen students. They send QTAC a list of say 50 students ranked from 1st to 50th, QTAC allocates USC places from top down. For example if 12 of the top 20 get a higher pref elsewhere their 12 USC places are allocated to rank 21st on, until exhausted.

IOW if you change your prefs before the QTAC dealine date there's no risk of losing out an offer.

Oh thank you so much! Does this apply just for USC, or all unis in QLD?

A1 replies: Not just USC but all unis in Qld and other states too.
(Except the odd occasions when a school sends offers directly to the successful applicants, bypassing the TAC. But if/when they do so the pref doesn't matter i.e. they would NOT skip over a higher ranked applicant because it's not their 1st pref).

I have applied for University of Sunshine Coast through QTAC which sends offers on 11th Jan. When I click on the course on QTAC, it shows that I have met the criteria of 'Minimum rank to be considered for an offer'. As USQ USC only looks at ATAR, does that mean I will get a offer?

I assume you meant USC.

Unfortunately I don't think the QTAC notation means you will get an offer. "Minimum rank to be considered for an offer" is different to the "Competitive-outcome rank to get an offer". You can still achieve the latter, just have to wait for the outcome.

Hey guys, very stupid q but I wanna ensure that I ain't messing up. On UAC, it should be fine I have just used 3 med preferences out of 5 preferences for WSU, UNSW and JMP right?
Or is it necessary to have 5 filled preferences?

No, this is fine. It’s exactly what I did a few years back.

hi, i have a question about offers and i'm not sure if this is the right thread but i got an email from curtin (1st preference) about an interview offer on 22 december. the day before, i got an offer from notre dame about biomedicine (2nd preference) on my TISC University Offers 2024 tab and it stated that i didn't get my first preference.
now when i check TISC, my curtin offer doesn't appear in that tab, and it still states that i haven't received an offer from my first preference. my ND offer is still there.
should i be worried? like for eg. if curtin made a mistake or something? because it's supposed to show up on TISC but it doesn't. :/

TISC/TACs usually don't show interview invites, only eligibility for upcoming selection and/or place offers.

The current status is you have been offered a place in the lower-pref Notre Dame, while your first/higher pref Curtin is still pending selection outcome after the interview.

Important EtA: I just remember with TISC, be careful whether you should or should not have accepted the ND offer. Accepting ND could rule out you being considered for the higher pref Curtin in the upcoming offer rounds. Verify with TISC on that.

I asked to Qtac to make sure for conditional accept and enrolment at first round. They answered below.

Answer from Qtac

When you conditionally accept an offer, you will still have the function to enrol into the course you have conditionally accepted, once you receive a second offer you will lose the initial conditionally accepted offer within your QTAC application.

if you have already enrolled in this course, you will still have your spot however once you have accepted a second offer you will want to consider unenrolling in the first course you have accepted.

———————

My additional question are

1. If I just condtional accept without enrolment? Is it fine to secure my place,
2. If do conditional accept and enroll course at first round, and then accept another course at second round, is first round course withdraw enroll automatically?
3. If it is not withdraw enroll automatically, How to unenroll the course at first round in qtac? Do I have to call university to withdraw enroll?

This^ got me puzzled. If accept conditionally + enrol it seems the "conditional" applies only within QTAC not to the unis (since the enrolment is still valid after receiving a second offer).

I thought the idea of conditional was after you receive the 2nd offer QTAC would take back your 1st offer to give to someone else. So without forcing you to lose the 1st enrolment (QTAC only says you consider it) they end up with two enrolments for one spot if you later decide to stick with the 1st and decline the 2nd.

My additional question are
1. If I just condtional accept without enrolment? Is it fine to secure my place,
It appears if you accept the 1st without enrolment it is secured. But if you receive a 2nd offer you'd lose the 1st.

2. If do conditional accept and enroll course at first round, and then accept another course at second round, is first round course withdraw enroll automatically?
Since QTAC says your 1st enrolment is still valid they don't automatically withdraw you from it. You'll need to do it yourself (or alternatively you can be a pain to them & other applicants by keeping it until March).

3. If it is not withdraw enroll automatically, How to unenroll the course at first round in qtac? Do I have to call university to withdraw enroll?
An enrolment is done with the uni on its website, not with QTAC. To un-enrol go to the same website withdraw all the enrolled units.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but QTAC have announced that the main offer round which was originally 11 Jan has been delayed and will now occur Monday 15 Jan at midday Qld time. Not sure why they have delayed it.

Hi, I am seeking a bit of clarification on UAC preferences.

My preference list for Jan Round 1 was:

1. UNSW med
2. WSU med
3. JMP med

In Jan Round 1, I received a WSU CSP med offer which I have accepted/enrolled in

UNSW sent me an email saying I did not meet the threshold for round 1 offers but I have a possibility of receiving an offer in Jan Round 2 or subsequent rounds. My question is that if I keep my preference list the way it is and somehow receive a UNSW offer next round, I don't have to accept it right? Even though it has always been listed as my 1st pref? Because if UNSW gives me a BMP (likely) I may prefer to keep my WSU CSP offer

My question is that if I keep my preference list the way it is and somehow receive a UNSW offer next round, I don't have to accept it right?
That's correct with UAC, it is your choice to keep whichever one and decline the other.
(Not so with some TACs, you could lose the 1st offer if round2 gets you a higher pref).

Btw if you decline UNSW bonded it'll go to another applicant afterwards, thus we see these top-up offers after round2.

Great, thanks! Also just when it comes to declining an offer on UAC, do you just let the offer lapse or do something else?
