On this topic one of my friends was telling me about a girl he talked to that day who was saying how her friend had got an A for the first time in the musculo test, and how she was really disappointed, and how (first girl) she couldn't imagine what it would be like getting an A. Talk about hardcore.

Must be nice having a brain like that :bored:

What do you guys think about paying someone for the last 10 years worth of exam papers for 111/101/107 with model answers for most of the mcqs and saqs?

I've never paid anyone to 'improve' my grades before, but after hearing that they re-cycle questions at uni for exams I thought this might be helpful?

I can't speak for Auckland, but Otago sure does. I paid for a pile of old mid-semester exams, and around half of the questions were repeats. It could be rather worthwhile...

Sorry LG - I meant your thoughts on the proposed progress testing.....what a mess, we're in the wrong forum, talking about the wrong stuff!!!!!

You've mentioned your interest in teaching in the past (on here, I'm not a stalker)......I just remembered being interested that you're interested :)

Damn, that would of been sweet as - I would've had a grin on my face the entire test lol
I am pretty sure Auckland does repeats, I'm just not sure to what extent though

I forgot to mention the cost for these will be 40NZD a paper, so if I get past papers for 3 of my core papers, its.....120 zz
But since we're talking about the difference of getting an edge, ie. improving my chances of getting into med, i think the money is not too much to waste;;

be careful about buying papers that go that far back. the curriculum does change a fair bit and lecturers always change. i personally dont think its necessary, but thats just me. i guess it goes without saying try before you buy.

Haha I think I know who your thinking of buying it from
Michael is it?

In terms of getting an edge...you wont if you think your personal study ethic gets you by when you attempt past papers. His answers are seriously indept and good for learning and understanding. But you should be able to get by on your own. Its really for people who are either struggling or have disposiable incomes.

At the end of the day...you've got a week or so left for exams so how much do you think your actually going to use these? Will you get you 40 bucks worth?

I won't use the last 10 years for every core paper lol that's just ridiculous
I was thinking along the lines of maybe the last 5 years worth of papers for 107, 111, 110
I've already started on the last two years worth of papers so im only really paying for three, but im thinking the model answers could be useful in terms of understanding and also looking at past questions from 06/07/08/09/10 years should give me a very good idea of whats's to come (assuming they're not going to shock in 2011)

I'm not struggling, im not here to splash $$$, just saving some of my student allowance to help my exams to go as smoothly as possible
My grades until now are fine, but I feel insecure about my future a bit too much
In terms of personal study ethic, I traded my social life for study :/

Then dont bother...you should be fine.

you guys do realise the last 2-10 years are usually available for free on the exam database right......
if you are paying for it then someone is taking advantage of you

Yup...but only chem provides answers for them.
Plus in addition to the papers you get explanations in the tutorials
You pay for 3 hours but he usually goes for 5...I dont know about you but most of my tutors have left promptly when your time is up

Haven't ever been to tutorials before, guess I'll find out - I can already assume it's probably not going to be much fun, I'll just down a bottle of V and tank it out for 3 hours

Will have a nice dopamine inducing meal afterwards to boost my morale

Uhh, V. I cant understand how people drink that crap and other related products. It may be a bit naive of me but I was completely shocked to see how much of med culture is completely dominated by and dependant on energy drinks, caffeine and all other kinds of artificial stimulation. And sleep deprivation. Plenty of time for that when we become house officers :)

only the 2 most recent biosci107 exams are available on examdb, the others have been withdrawn.

i've probably got the 07 + previous versions...i'll try and dig them up if anyone is interested.......i could scan them in.

hey
i have the past 10 years of 107 papers and 111 papers but sorry no answers to them.
i think its better having to search for the answers in notes and textbooks because you learn more that way
if you want them jst holla

The 2010 muscles question gave me a brain aneurysm - i also heard this question caused quite a stir last year?

Hmmm I don't even remember what they were, but I do remember not being too impressed with them. Was it an ECG question or something like that?

lol you use the same terminology for the 'fun' lectures in Auckland as we do in Otago
(Yes, I do stalk the Auckland page, ours has been kinda dead lately  )
