English 3.7? Heh, I loved that research internal. It was a good excuse to read lots and watch lots of movies. I actually only used like half of the stuff I read, and ended up doing the bulk of my report over a weekend, and got the E. With an extra subject, I didn't have a study period last year, so the whole all-nighter thing was unavoidable in some cases, no matter how well I managed my time. Oh well. It was good exercise for my (previously almost non-existent) time management skills. Here's hoping there aren't too many all-nighters this year. :s:

Yeah I think it was 3.7, just from memory. :p I was lucky enough to only have 5 subjects last year, since I did Level 3 History as a Year 12. Still, my study periods were usually spent sleeping, running around doing random prefect jobs, or sitting in the media studies classroom watching movies. :p

@Nogeat - I just had a look now... I have a feeling we're in for a lot of work over the next 10 months or so... And apparently it only gets harder if you actually make it into med... Amen to no plants though. Definitely the worst part of bio, whether it's NCEA or CIE.

Yeah, I bought the BIOSCI 101 and 107 lecture guides yesterday. They're a little thick. I'm looking forward to the labs, though. I took a look at that first 107 lab - microscopy. Finally. The Bio classes we were supposed to have on that in Y12 were spent with a relieving teacher. We twiddled around with the adjustments without any guidance and got nowhere.
And I have to agree. Plants = Bio doodle time. (Sorry, Mr. P!) Too bad doodling flowers didn't count as Bio study.

And @camwells - the joys of being a prefect. I'm going to miss doing random jobs and organising stuff. :( I had 7 subjects, if you count Religious Education (which was a pretty chill class).

Yeah I think I'm going to have to stand in line with everyone else at UBS during O Week unfortunately... I've been having a look through the PDF though, it all seems rather interesting. :) I'm glad I did both NCEA and Cambridge Bio now - they give you such a broad base for 101 and 107. Lol I went to sleep during all the plants stuff. I just have absolutely no interest in xylem, phloem or any other plant biology.

Yeah I enjoyed being a prefect, but I think it'll be a nice change being able to concentrate on my studies - we had a rather busy year as prefects last year... It was the school's centennial year, and you can imagine how much extra work that was, on top of everything else the prefects have to do.

It was pretty busy for us, too. We had a new principal coming in and a new building opening. I'm sure there were lots of other things, but I can't really remember; it all sort of just went by in a blur. I'm looking forward to relative anonymity this year, as opposed to being mobbed by juniors who recognise me. (Though I will miss them lots. :D)

Maybe you could order the books from UBS online and have them delivered? It's a $3 charge, I think. :p
I'm glad I picked up the old MAXX sticker yesterday. It expires on March 31, so I can avoid the lines and get the new one later. That MAXX line was one I was definitely not looking forward to.

Yeah, it'll be kinda nice to be just another face in the crowd, rather than being singled out in different uniform to everyone else...

Hmmm that could be an option. I might have to look into that. :) Hold up, what's MAXX? I haven't heard about it at all...

MAXX is the transport service in Auckland.

I still cant manage to figure out whether using the hop card or getting those weekly passes is cheaper. Opinions?

Hi Nogeat,

Last year it worked out that the weekly passes were slightly cheaper, they cost $23 a week (this was the 'Lower Zone' one which allowed me to catch the bus from North Shore to Grafton). With the HOP card, if you're going into uni every day and back, it works out to $27 I think. If you don't have to go into uni every day (for example I had Wednesdays off in OLY1), I think the 10 ride deal thing works out the cheapest.

Also about DELNA, i heard that in that past threads that people could do the 30 min session during their first biosci 101 lab. Or could i at least do it after uni begins

Nogeat, I think it's more convenient to wait and do it during the Biosci lab as everyone in your stream will be doing it together. I didn't take Biosci101 last year, and had to sort an appointment in my own spare time which was a bit of a pain. The test itself is painless, and despite being allocated half an hour, I'm pretty sure you can get it done in half that time.

Hi, do you know whether we have to buy the lab glasses if we're already wearing specs?

Delna is just the test for english literacy, i don't think that it counts as part of the course, questions will probably be on cecil or peerwise?

Yup you will still need to buy lab glasses.

Delna doesn't count as part of the course at all, if you 'fail' it then you they give you extra english help (or something like that). It's done through a different university server to CECIL/peerwise and has to be done on computers connected to the uni network (i.e uni computers not personal computers) with supervision.

Man... is there anyone in the afternoon stream??

Afternoon lab or lecture stream? I have afternoon lectures for semester one...

As far as DELNA goes, would doing it during the 101 lab use time that you could otherwise spend doing the actual lab work? Wouldn't this make it worth booking in to do it sometime during O Week? Or would I just end up sitting there while everyone else did DELNA during the first lab... <_<

Sorry, forgot that you were afternoon lectures too, hopefully we'll meet each other.

As for DELNA, despite the fact that it is a 30min session many people say that they didn't take longer than 10min at max. So i don't think that it would affect so much of the lab session. Someone please confirm

Confirmed. I did mine in o-week though

Is the textbook for physics 160 useful? some say the questions in it are of good practise...

I found it useful. Especially for the tutorials. Plus I thought the teaching was terrible so actually needed the textbook to learn half the stuff. That said it's easy enough to just get from the library when you need it

I reckon it's a good buy considering that you can also use it for GAMSAT.
