camwells not me :), but can I ask how far University hall is from city campus? ie time taken to walk to OGGB or where ever most of our lectures are held?

ChocolateSunshine - From what I've seen on Google Maps, it's roughly half way between the City and Grafton campuses. I'm guessing it'd be about a 10-15 minute walk to OGGB, which is where nearly all of our lectures will be. I figure it's also fairly close to Grafton, which will be handy come MEDSCI labs in the second semester. :)

Oh, you're so lucky! I have to wake up really early, since I have to commute from south Auckland. I'm used to it, since I went to a secondary school in the city, but I was hoping I could wake up a little later now that I'm at uni. Looking forward to semester 2, though, when it's not an 8 a.m. start everyday.

agentlucerne - I take it you have morning lectures for the first Semester then? I ended up with afternoon lectures in the first semester, and morning lectures in the second semester. Haha still, I'd rather live in South Auckland than the hole that is Hamilton... Just out of curiosity, what school did you go to in Auckland?

I don't quite live in south auckland but I am dreading the early mornings and 8am starts aswell, do you bus every morning? /did you

@camwells
Argh, I envy you. Yup. 8 a.m. Every single day except Wednesday. <_< To be honest, my second semester's not much better - lectures start at 9 a.m. I'm just glad that I get home pretty early on my non-lab days.
And South Auckland really isn't as bad as the news makes it out to be.
I went to St Mary's College (an all girls school). University's going to be interesting after 5 years of that kind of environment. I'm glad my parents put me there, though, since it gave me the chance to get used to being in the city, taking public transport, etc. And it was a great school.

At high school, there was a school bus stop 5 minutes drive away from my house. However, it was the very first stop, so I had to wake up at around 5:30. For uni, I was considering taking the train, but that means I either have to wait around for the Link, or walk from Britomart. I wouldn't mind walking, but that Albert Park hill is kind of scary. I found out an express bus stops near me, though! It ends up by the Thomas Building at uni. I still have to wake up at the same time.

you can always stream-hop if you want - the morning and afternoon streams are identical... Normally the morning streams are busier than the afternoon streams though

agentlucerne when did you enrol for your courses? must have been relatively early to get all morning lectures? also what are you doing for gen ed?

I remember reading somewhere that streamhopping was not allowed? or is 'not allowed' synonymous with 'frowned upon, don't get caught too many times'? Aren't afternoon labs run at the same time as some afternoon lectures?

It depends how you schedule your labs really. Stream hopping is not promoted, and it doesn't work well in the first few weeks when everyone turns up to their enrolled class (as the lecture theatres are 100% full)... After a few weeks though people stop showing up, and some seats open up... Especially in the boring lectures e.g. biosci 106 (have fun with that in semester 2).

I used to stream hop pretty much every day - just going to classes when I felt like it. But then again, it was easier for me as I was only doing 4 of the 7 biomed papers (had done the others already)

qbob What time is that afternoon lecture at? As much as I hate waking up early, I like the fact that it means I get to go home pretty early, too. ^_^

ChocolateSunshine Yeah, I enrolled on the 14th of January, I think...
I'm doing PHIL105. I've always been really interested in that sort of thing. Had a really difficult time choosing what Gen Ed to do, though. What about you?

I trained in every morning and walked up from britomart...it's not a hard walk and only takes about 12mins. Plus it's nice getting a bit of fresh air before being crammed into a lecture hall for 4 hours...

Heh, so true. That 4 hour block of lectures looks awful. I'll try both, but knowing me, I'll probably end up taking the lazy express bus.

it's a nice walk from Britomart to uni. If you find the hill daunting then you really should walk up, as it would be good for your health :p. It's also good to wake you up...

Albert Park isn't as bad as College Hill. Occasionally, I would have to walk up College Hill when I was at school. I guess that was a pretty traumatising experience. Especially since I was the kind of person to put lots of stuff in my bag.
Just wondering, what time did people start arriving before their morning lecture (8 a.m.) started? Was there a huge rush for good seats?

And to think - I'll just be able to roll out of bed at 8:45am and waltz off to my 9am labs... I won't rub it in too much more, promise.

Yeah I could probably say the same thing about Hamilton... It is pretty boring here most of the time though. I've been through 5 years of Hamilton Boys'... So I guess you could say Uni is going to be an interesting change for me too. I know I definitely won't miss the hair rules... Thank god those are in the past. It is a great school though, and the teachers there have been awesome over the last few years. Plus, it was only a 15 minute walk from home for me too, so I guess not too much is going to change with my transport arrangements either!

camwells I am glaring at you through the computer right now. (And yes, we had some strict hair rules, too. I feel sorry for the teachers who had to reinforce that at my school!)

5:30 I could never do. You must be a legend. every school day.

I'm doing Econ151, i read the description for PHIL105 and it sounded like it had the potential to be incredibly boring..so yeah. only 2 lectures a week for econ so yay!
