Hmm no wonder many say that oly1 is just slightly more difficult than hsfy.

Be a little careful with statements like that: Don't forget that in HSFY all of the papers count, so you have to aim for an A+ in all of them and put in corresponding workloads. Plus most HSFY students do 8 papers anyway, so the semester 2 contact hours don't drop a huge amount.Hmm no wonder many say that oly1 is just slightly more difficult than hsfy.
I wonder how they know that, given that so few people have done both...Hmm no wonder many say that oly1 is just slightly more difficult than hsfy.

Cue 'Attack of the Otago students'![]()
Anyway I hope this year's oly1 cohort is a little more talkative (type-ative?) on MSO than last year.do our first labs of the semester actually count for the final grade?
Yes they do, all labs count for a certain percentage of your final lab grade, which in turn counts towards your final course grade.
EDIT: This is based on experience from the BHSc OLY1, not the BSc OLY1. Labs for BIOSCI 101 may be different
I just bought the lecture guides for biosci 101 and 107 yesterday! It seems that they may be available online too? They are much thicker than I thought they would be.. Are we supposed to carry them around/have them in lectures? or are they just for leaving at home/referencing??
Also, from what i can tell the first lab for 101 is 'lab 1 enzymology' - consisting of prelab questions and online questions (delna?). lab 1 together with lab 2 contributes 4% to your final mark. Or so it says in the book.

If I remember right the first 101 lab doesn't count. But don't quote me on that!
How much were the lecture guides?
Start reading BIOSCI 107 it's good to get as familiar with it asap!!! You guys might have 4 tests in a row before the mid semester break or 4 tests after the break. Last year it was before the break. It is probably one of the hardest times i think in OLY1.
So...let me get this right...
BIOSCI course books are available in UBS; chem and pophlth course books can be collected from each department (?) or somewhere near lecture room?
What abt the orientation booklet? Where can I get that?
Do you just mean 4 tests in a row for biosci 107 or for other papers too? Also does in a row mean...day after day? or week after week?
and how do i 'get familiar' with it? should i just start reading the lecture book? isn't it better to wait till the lecture so I have a better idea of what the lecturer is looking for/wants us to know?
A normal school leaver student shouldn't need to start reading any material before classes start. Seriously. Enjoy the rest of your holidays.
