That's basically what I have been doing, except I've been using the textbook quite heavily (I went totally overboard with reproduction, ending up with around 14-15 pages of notes per lecture)...

Does anyone know if a failed non-core paper is an automatic non-entry? I'm referring to my general education paper, which I'm quite terrified I'm going to end up failing as I have completely underestimated how much work it requires (as well as how interested in the paper I would be). I have to get a 4 gpa minimum in order to maintain a B+ GPA, so a C- would not have too much of an impact as long as I got good marks in my other papers.

A failed paper will automatically exclude you; reference the entry regulations for OLY1 (*) which clearly state that following "successful completion" of your eight papers you can apply to the MBChB.

On the other hand, as you say, you need an overall B+ GPA so even if you get a C- it's not the end of the world.

Curiously, which paper are you taking?

(*) Entry requirements for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)

Remember there is such a thing as scaling, you may pass if everyone else is doing similarly also.

I would really advise staying well clear of C-, thats cutting it close dont you think?? on the otherhand, what gen ed paper yoou taking? Im doing econ......have gone to 2 lectures so far -_-

BC mso - I have randomly gone to two of the ECON lectures with my friends who actually take the paper, and from an outsider's perspective, it's not so bad. I see why you've only gone to two, frankly because they put up the lecture recordings and you guys also get the lecture slides printed out... so lucky! :p

I'm not aiming for a C-, but if I get say a 9 (142) + 8 (106) + 7 (160) + 1, then I will have a 6.25 gpa for the second semester, which is more than I need (First Semester Gpa was 8.0, so overall Gpa for the year would be 7.125)

I'm taking History 103G. It's totally due to laziness on my part. After I've spent the majority of my time on Med Sci, Bio Sci, and Physics, the last thing I want to do is have to read through piles of dry History resources each week.

+ no readings, no assignments, only one terms test, automatic plussage without even having to do the test........nek minnit....FAIL econ hahaha

I think Rotors might be right though, failing a paper might rule out application to medicine as stated "the successful completion of 8 papers...... I havent heard of anyone with a failed paper going through to medicine but who knows haha

A total GPA (core + non core) of 7.125 puts you above the 6.0 (B+) threshold for being eligible for an interview

If your core GPA from semester one is 8 (using your example) + you get a 9 in MEDSCI142 (doable, if you work at it) then you are looking at a core GPA in total of 8.25 which should set you up quite well for entry to med, provided your UMAT is OK and you don't roll up to your interview naked, covered in faeces and frothing at the mouth.

So all is not lost even if you do get a C- in history

Ugh Health Psych looks like death, I had to do the Massey equivalent as part of Nursing (175.102 Human Development) and basically gave up halfway through because the readings about Freud and such caused severe, irretractable brain pain which did not respond to combination analgesia (bikkies and cuppa)

You know this might just be enough to push me over the edge and do Biomed hmm; physics vs Freud tough decision :D

Health psyc is really easy, when you talk about freud and all, thats just a bit of history, covered in the very first lecture, most of it is about neuro biology, perception and behaviour

2 lectures a week for health psych, pop health is a pretty sweet reason to do health science haha

Best reason not to do biomed? biosci 106 without a doubt. 12 weeks of biochem :((((((

LOL I find the macro level biochemistry (e.g glucose metabolism or oxidative phosphorylation) reasonably mildly interesting, its the physics that looks like death for biomed :P

Well it sounds like Health Psych and the Human Development paper I did are quite different; for Human Development I had to write all this bull (like 3,000 words) on what psycho-socio-emotional factors that would cause somebody to wag school and the relevant psychosocial theory ... it was a wee bit boring?

Still waiting to hear if either degree will let me do CHEM150 in semester one and CHEM110 in semester two, I am a wee bit (read: very, very, very, very, very, very, very) scared of CHEM110 ... what is a proton again?

... I find it sad that I did CHEM110 last semester and had to think for a full two minutes to remember what a proton was.

Does anybody know when the UMAT results are coming out and how we get access to them?

UMAT results came out for me last year in late september, around the 20th. They email you notifying you that the results are out, you access them through ACER's website using you UMAT id number

how about the behaviour modification assignment? heard its pretty straight forward as well

Ill be very surprised if you don't get full marks...

Just don't do "learning a new skill" as your topic. I picked learning a language but for some reason they told me at the end that it wasnt allowed.

Still got the marks though cause my tutor failed to tell me.
