sorry if this is a small change of topic guys, but whats your best way of studying so much more content (than ncea lvl 3 ==')?? If there's another thread on this please show it to me :)
Thanks

This 'guide' was made by tupac4life, an OLY1 student last year, it has proven very useful for me this year in time organising and deciding where to focus my time on. Perhaps you might find it useful as well to have a read through

Hey guys. I'm planning on going to Auckland University next year and am currently coming second in the AMP Peoples Choice Scholarship which will get me $10,000 to help with my studies. If you could please take 10 seconds to go to this link Laura Morgan - AMP Peoples Choice Applicant and vote it would really mean a lot! Thanks :D
(without being too rude) maybe you could give us a reason to vote for you, rather than just asking us to? i think people would be more receptive that way lol

So I realised there isn't a seperate thread for Halls of Residence in Auckland like the one for Otago, so I was just wondering which Hall of Residence is the best for someone trying to get into Medicine.
By Best I guess the conditions are:
-- Near the Lecture buildings
-- Quiet-ish so I'm too distracted
-- Good Food/Room/Toilets, etc.

not too sure as i'm not staying in the halls, but i've heard university hall is good. i'll ask around some of my friends who are staying at the halls and get back to you :)

Can anyone who has done Med Sci give me their opinion on whether the mid-semester test is harder or easier than the end-semester test? How many brutal Lung-Physiology questions can I expect?

Regarding Halls:

Overall, they are all the same really. None of them are particularly quiet but the general library and Philson/tamaki/IC facilities nearby are super great for study.

Grafton has better food than the others from what I've heard.
International house and O'Roke are closest to uni though and probably have the best rooms.

The new hall is apparently amazing though in terms of building quality.

Hey does anyone know the number of med places available at Auckland for undergrads who are not rural or MAPAS? ive heard some people saying its 180 while others say its 220 does anyone know for a fact?

They probably will tell us during the med talk on this coming thursday.
But i remember from our orientation at the beginning of the year that they had around 130 general admissions places (so excludes mapas and rras) last year

And approx. one third of those go to grads, so about 80ish places for undergrad non-rural, non-mapas, entry

that seems about right. I remember reading somewhere that next year the MAPAS cohort is up to 50 places and 36 for RRAS-ROMPE I think... but dont quote me

Ill back this up, it was mentioned in the 2012 UMAT booklet.
This is a post I made earlier in this thread...

"It is anticipated that there will be approximately 219 government funded places available for entry in 2013.This includes up to 37 places under the regional rural Admission Scheme (rrAS), and up to 53 places under the Māori pacific Admission Scheme (MApAS)."
Plagiarised right from the UMAT 2012 information booklet, pg 23.

219 - 53 - 37 = 129
You should note that 129 includes graduate entry candidates, so the number of places for non-MAPAS, non rural OLY1 is closer to around 80 students.
However these are government funded places therefore it excludes international students.

But when it says up to 37 for RRAS and 53 for MAPAS, they don't usually fill up all those places do they??

If there's vacancies in those places do they transfer those places for general admission

from what i've heard from other OLYers, they do not open these places to other candidates. however you'd have to be a fool to believe half of the rumours flying round throughout the year, so im not 100% sure how it works. hopefully the talk on thursday night will clear things up :) hopefully see some of you guys there? :)

That's not a rumour I've heard and I'm 99% sure that rras and mapas seats go to general entry if they're not used. As far as I'm aware, mapas doesn't typically use all its allocated seats, but I'd imagine rras does.
