Bond Med 2018 Discussion

I want some input on bond. The degree is 4 years and 8 months with trimesters. That means there is a total of 15 trimesters of 13 weeks. This equates to 7.5 years in most unis with semesters. Is learning effective here because fitting a 7 year degree in to 4 years and 8 months doesnt sound great to me

In five years time, I know I would be thankful that I completed the degree in a shorter amount of time. The shortened holiday time won't matter for me personally in the long run

Further, there are many undergraduate medical degrees that are 5 years long, so I do not think questioning the effectiveness of the Bond degree which is four months shorter (and as you pointed out, technically has more teaching time) is that sound... just my two cents :)

14 trimesters of 14 weeks each which is equivalent to 7 years for an MD. This is the same with many MD programs ( 3 year undergrad + 4 year MD).
I have already outlined the teaching quality of the program in previous posts on this thread. In summary, teaching time is basically the same. The only difference is the shortened breaks as well as missing out on the big near the end of the year which is usual with public universities.

I heard from Bond that the Interview offers would be completed by early next week. She went on to convey “ having said that the interview offers could roll out as early as from today onwards”. If any of you heard anything different please advise. It's hard to predict or believe anything after experiencing the psychometric invitation timeframe.

Did you manage to catch the name of the individual you spoke with on the phone by any chance?

Sorry, No. I made the call around 10:15 a.m. Sydney time so, it should have been 9:15 a.m. there. If they start the process today like what was told, I expect that it will be completed by tomorrow. It makes sense because the psychometric results have been sent as soon as it was done. If the Unversity wants to analyse, it could only be the ranking of suitable candidates (if they do not consider ATAR/GPA along with it). So it will be a fairly simple & easy process.

Hi Gucci and other friends

The latest information I gathered from Bond a few minutes ago is that the faculty had advised the admissions team that successful candidates would be notified of the interview offer by next week. John ( in the admissions office) did not give me an exact date as they do not know. It could be anytime from Mon-Fri next week. This could result in giving someone just 2 days notice to attend the interview if it was to be Friday notification for interview on Monday 26 Feb 2018. He also admitted that it could happen as well.

I received different information yesterday putting us all under anxiety ( I am sorry as I shared what was told by another lady) and this morning John advises the above information after consulting the directives sent by the Faculty of Medicine yesterday. This seems to be more authenticated as he put me on hold stating that "admissions office got notified from the faculty about the indicative interview offers send out timeframe".

Further on inquiry, he did not know if the interview offers may / may not include ATAR in conjunction with psychometric results and conveyed that will be left to the discretion of the faculty. We all know that the website states " The results of the psychometric test will determine eligibility for being offered an interview" but it does not say that it will be the only indicator casting some speculation. I could not proceed more into the conversation with Bond on this matter as I suspected it will be too intrusive. John was very courteous and helpful. So, if the recent call is taken as the indicative time period for interview offer with confidence, we can all have a sigh of relief and have a weekend with less stress and anxiety. Hope this helps. Good luck all.

ps: Beware with what happened with psychometric test notification !!!

Hey thanks for the update! With regards to the 2 days notice I think that’s highly unlikely, if people are notified on Friday it would be most likely for the latest interview date!

Not true, it is very likely for Gold Coast and Brisbane locals who do not need weeks notice to plan travel and accomodation.

Thanks B2. That's what I intended to say, it could be a possibility for the local candidates but I personally feel even that is cutting short. Hope there is a better gap for people to plan and attend the interview once offered.

anyone know what date last year offers for places came out? I wonder if 16th March is truly accurate...i guess no one knows..but if its through QTAC it has to be that date ?

It was all over the place last year, but I remember qtac changed to satisfied/not-satisfied a few days before first round offer emails were sent, unless you were borderline. My qtac changed to not-satisfied but my friend who got in changed to satisfied. A third friend of mine's qtaq stayed pending all through first round offers and she was eventually offered a second round place later on. So even if you don't get an offer by the 16th, if your qtac still says pending you're still in the game for a second round offer.

As I see only a few candidates collaborate for Bond Med admissions in MSO Online this year ( may be 20 max, I did not count); What happens to the remaining 480 or so who supposedly took the Psychometric test that opted out to join or they did not know if such exists! It would add more value to the forum if at the least 30-40% join in my opinion.

just checked my QTAC application... beside Interview it says "Processing of this information has not commenced." ... wonder if this will change in the next couple of days to something else depending on whether you're successful in getting an interview or not!

It will definately change, but it's whether or not it'll change before you get the email. Like the psychometric section of my qtac changed to 'selected to sit test' or whatever pretty much at the exact same time as I got the email, so refreshing qtac neurotically may or may not give you an early indication. That being said, last year my qtaq changed to not-satisfied ages before bond got around to sending me the email of death

Haha, I am going to leave the neurotic refreshing of QTAC to the rest of you, I'm too busy refreshing my email as it is/jumping at my phone when the email ding happens :/

I agree - I wish more people participated in the forum!
