CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone had an example of a 1st year timetable, trying to get an idea of the structure, thanks so much

Hi ed88,
Are you coming to CSU this year? If you want to check out your timetable you can do so.

Go to
Timetable @ CSU | Charles Sturt University - 2.0.39

Go to subjects

Select multiple subjects for first semester (you can find this by looking at the dentistry handbook) which are BMS129, DOH124, DOH114, PSY111 and CHM102. Make sure you select the subjects that have S1 and OA-I in the title.

Select semester 1 all weeks.

You will be looking at 5 days/week and 6-8 contact hours/day.

Let me know how you go (I have attached your current timetable but it may change).

Hi Guys.
I’ll be starting my semester in Feb, do guys have any idea about the books we will using this semester or next?. I was thinking to buy used or new books from now

Not sure where to ask this, but as I was looking up CSU's Bachelor of Dental Surgery on this site: Bachelor of Dental Science
I saw under the 'Accreditation' Tab that the course is accredited under the Australian Dental Council until 2021? Does that mean if we finish after 2021, we won't be able to become accredited dental practitioners?
Thank you.

All the dental programs need accreditation regularly. It's nothing with your qualification and registration. You will register as a dentist once you complete the BDSc/BDS study.

Hi guys, current CSU dentistry student here - to those of you who have been accepted into CSU this year please private message me so I can send you a link to the Class of 2022 page! Congrats and we can't wait to see you all when uni starts! :)

Hey guys, so i received a call yesterday saying I have an offer coming my way on thursday (late ik). Anyone else in this position???? Also for those who already have offers, does uni start on the 26th of feb and is oweek compulsory?? Asking cause I am from interstate so an extra week would make things so much easier given how little time i have and the fact that I just had a day surgery yesterday and am obviously still recovering. cheers

You’re the second person to report a phone call offer yesterday. Panda111 being the other. There is a FB group you can join and theremight be more info available via that route? Your best bet for timetable info and o week requirements will be the Uni itself though.

Congrats on your offer! I hope you have a speedy recovery! Best wishes for your interstate move.

Just curious. Is there any particular reason that you only applied dentistry which is quite different to many other applicants? Is that because of family tradition (e.g. some family members are dentists) or self experience (e.g. previous dental treatments)?

BTW, UQ dentistry should not disappoint you ;)

Nope nothing like that, my dad is a medical doctor but no other dentists in the family and as far as experience ive never had a bad one or any serious work done. For me it's about a career where I can be around people, work for myself, choose my hours and afford my hobbies. I am also extremely fascinated by teeth! I'm a hardcore perfectionist and I love all the highly dexterous work. Medicine just isn't for me and dentistry really fits the bill, I've done weeks worth of work experience and really enjoyed every second of it

Have you studied at UQ? I'm super keen to hear people's opinions, so far I'm already so impressed with their student services and organisation

I am glad to hear you are the happy minority to enjoy dentistry even you have a medical family background :D Yes, I was studying at UQ long time ago and I enjoyed the time spent there. The dental school was at Turbot Street in the CBD but now is at Herston, so it's the same as before you have to travel between St Lucia and Herston at least in the initial 2 yrs. Nevertheless, I believe you will love to spend some time at St Lucia campus. All the best for your UQ dentistry study.

Hi this is off topic i know but what was your umat score ? To get into csu dentistry and do they have a minimum atar requirement this year?

Hey guys
What umat scores did you guys get to get into csu dentistry?and is there a minimum atar?
I think i can get an 80 + percentile in umat but ive really messed up a couple of sacs so i dont think i can get a 90+ atar

If you can't make a 90 ATAR, and you have no special consideration/bonus points, then undergraduate dentistry is unfortunately out of your reach this year.

But for charles sturt dont you get interview offers based on your umat score ? I read it on their page

Sure, but you will still have to meet their minimum ATAR even after you pass the interview stage to qualify for a place, which a below 90 ATAR won't make.

This is not correct - the only criteria is UMAT. If in doubt check with the university
