CSU CSU Dentistry: Q&A and General Discussion

Hi,
First of all, thank you Hutch for the thread! Provided me with the necessary information and I received an offer for Dentistry at CSU for 2015 intake!

Just a query for whoever can answer: I finished grade 12 in 2013 and took a gap year. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things I could brush up on prior to starting the course following my gap year. I want to minimise, as much I can, the 'rustiness' with study that people mention happens after a gap year. I am considering enrolling with Study Link at CSU and doing some Chem, Bioscience and Anatomy and some other courses like Transition to University. But simultaneously I want to begin the course with a clear head and avoid unnecessary pressure/stress.

Did you feel like prior knowledge from grade 12 or your undergrad course was essential for you, especially in first year? If so, I might proceed with Study Link and/or review my grade 12 notebooks/textbooks as well. Would you recommend doing some studying or do you feel like you get all the info you need from your lectures in the course?

Any inputs/suggestions/advice would be appreciated! @Omm @iBoLt @mighty @Hutcherson

Thanks.
:woot:
Calm your farm @tkay :p. You got in so you'll be able to handle everything without the silly study link courses. Looking forward to meeting you lot next year.

I apologize if this has already been asked but I was wondering what my chances of being offered an interview would be with a 98 ATAR and a 5.3 GPA (have done half the degree). I also have a bit of work experience at 2 different dental clinics (around about a month each).

Cheers

I am from wa - doing year 12 now and with predicted score of 98.3. what are my chances of getting into dentistry. I have done only few days of voluntary work so far. Is there any uni where I might have a chance to get in for either medicine or dentistry with this atar.

Hey, that sounds pretty good to me! I'd try to boost your GPA a bit, at least to 5.5 if you can! Of course, you can always boost your experience (different clinics = different experiences) and try and get in some volunteer work etc if you've got the time :) Have a look at the application form from last year and see if you're able to fill it out, and build up anything you're not able to answer well!

By voluntary work, do you mean work experience? If so, try and get a few more weeks in if possible, try at different clinics. That's a nice predicted score - keep it up! For medicine and a lot of the dental schools, you need to do the UMAT too, so depends how well you go in that! CSU doesn't require a UMAT, so if you keep up your grades, get in a bit more work experience, and try to do some volunteering etc, I think you'd be in with a good chance :)

Hello all ^_^ I received an offer to study at CSU and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how to apply for on-campus accommodation. I cannot seem to apply on the Accommodation Portal. Am I doing something wrong? (I don't even know if I have enrolled properly u-u)

Thank you in advance!

(Good luck to those awaiting offers!)

how come offers are released before the year 12 results are out? You got offer first week of December while the results are out later in December.

That is why you provide your predicted ATAR. If you are given the 'conditional' offer in early December however, you are still expected to achieve the minimum ATAR requirements or your offer will be revoked.

so does that mean that atar score is just a hurdle? predicted score form has highest range 'over 96'. Someone might get 96.1 and another one 99. does that mean student with 99 will have no advantage over student with 96.1

once you receive a conditional offer for Dentistry, there is no competition with anyone else other than yourself. like @Omm said.. as long as you get the minimum ATAR required, your offer will stand :)

Hey there. Not sure if this is right place to post.
I have received an interview offer and have booked an interview at Charles Sturt Uni.

If someone here would be kind enough to give me a rundown on life in Orange? It'll be great.

Thanks!

Hey DentalPerfectionist, I was an international applicant and got a second round interview. I don't believe I provided any EC's, and my GPA was about a 3.3 (out of 4) in a BSc program in Alberta Canada. My application went through the agency OzTREKK and I highly recommend them if you are a Canadian who is thinking of going to Australia for dental school

Nice! Did you hear back from CSU yet? I'm also from Alberta (Edmonton) and applied through oztrekk. I had a first round interview with CSU which I ended up declining as I was accepted in to Griffith for the 2018 program.

Ya I had an interview in their second round, and received an offer a couple weeks ago. I also had an interview with University of Sydney today, so now it is down to decision time.

Nice! I did my undergrad at UofA!
