Curtin Curtin Medicine: General Questions and Discussion

Quick question,

Did the majority of Curtin offers come out a couple days ago? I've getting conflicting signals as I've been told that offers come out this Friday
The majority of offers came out on the 31st of Jan. Any other offers after this are follow up offers.

And you can get to know your rank on the waitlist if you email curtin admissions. They'll at first say they don't disclose the rank. You should reply to the email asking for an 'approximate ranking'.

Funny, I emailed asking mine just before and they said they couldn’t disclose the info - even the approximate info. I’m not gonna push it cos as a non-standard my chances for a top-up are so slim anyway so think it’s time I moved on!

Yeah, I think it depends on the person who replies

Were you close to getting an offer RJ?

Not even close! All they said was that I was in the 'latter half' of the list.
Oh, that's not the sort of news you want to hear. But I guess you never really know how many declines they will get. At least you still have an offer in hand.

Damn :(, and you had a 99.95 atar as well?
Demonstrates the importance of the interview, I guess (40%).
(Also, Curtin may have used 4 subjects from RJ's IB results, to calculate final ATAR. So it could be less than 99.95)

Hi ,

I was having a look at Curtin Med entry under rural scheme.

It says

• Rural applicants are those Western Australian applicants who are applying as a Western Australian school leaver, Western Australian Curtin Course Switcher or have completed a tertiary qualification from a Western Australian institution, who as of 31 December prior to commencement of the program, have lived in a rural area at least 10 years cumulatively or any five years consecutively from the commencement of primary school. This time frame is based on the location of your primary residence and cannot be your family’s holiday home etc. Curtin Medical School classifies regions as being rural using the Modified Monash Model – remoteness category (MMM) 3-7. Please note this classification system is used rather than the ASGC-RA classification system. To check your MMM classification, you can search by entering your address at the website below, please ensure that you select the Modified Monash Model Layer 2019: Apps and tools

So are only rural candidates from WA given an admission through this scheme or they consider rural candidates from other states as well.

Has anyone in the past got in Curtin under this scheme from a different state?

Looking for some response

I quote, "Rural applicants are those Western Australian applicants who are applying as a Western Australian school leaver, Western Australian Curtin Course Switcher or have completed a tertiary qualification from a Western Australian institution, who as of 31 December prior to commencement of the program, have lived in a rural area at least 10 years cumulatively or any five years consecutively from the commencement of primary school. ". Rural candidature is only available to WA residents or people who have studied in WA from a rural background anywhere. Eg. if you are a WA applicant school leaver with a rural background then yes, but if you are an applicant from the other states as a school leaver with a rural background in your respective home state then no. If you are studying at a WA tertiary institution already from a rural background in any state then yes, but if you are a tertiary student from interstate that had a rural background outside of WA, then no. At least that's the way I interpret it. What is your scenario?
