Dentistry Entry Discussion and Questions

They do over offer, but last year there were second round offers. But I will say that because of the interviews, there will likely be more rejection of offers for interstate med, resulting in more second rounds.
I see... Thanks!! But does that mean I barely have hope even I reach the requirements for UQ if I am giving my documents late :(

We can't say! Just do your best to get your documents in, probably alert uq/qtac that this will be happening and hope for the best. If you have the score for a first round offer, but you are late, you will be too of the top ups. Best of luck :)

hold up, interviews for what? UQ dent?
also is UQ going to have increments for ATAR over 99? previous posts on this thread were talking about it, about how 99.95 ATAR vs 99 ATAR

I have said many times on the forum, that med interviews will impact the overall dent entry scores, because most people use dent as a backup, and interviews no longer mean high ucats have confirmed med entry. With the increments on the dent page for UQ rn it is just 99+ is the same rank. Although still up in the air

aw man, how much do you reckon the dent entry scores will change?

Uhhh hard to predict, first round could go up probably around the 2-3% mark as a safe bet, but likely second round will end up being similar to first round last year due to interstate med spots. This is all speculation please, please don't rely on my info.

Hi all, just a quick question for clarification on the application process. After I send my application through QTAC, are there any further steps I need to undertake? Thank you guys in adv and hope all is well!

If this is for UQ and griffith, then yes! but if it is for JCU, then you should have sent in a written application by the 30th of september :)
EDIT: sorry i was having a brain mishap, definitely mean't yes you are fine, nothing to do extra.

Hey all, non standard applicant here. Unfortunately i dont think my 90th percentile ucat cut it this year (cutoffs were insanely high this year judging by the interview data thread) so im looking towards the next year to guarantee a spot. Im just a little confused on the process. My gpa is in the dumps so im looking to transfer to another university and studying half a year there before applying to get a 'reset' on my gpa and apply to more universities. Particularly im looking at UQ and griffith. Will scoring a 7 gpa in that time before uac applications get me an interview/offer?
Thanks for the help

As in, transferring to a new degree? If you only complete 0.5FTE years of study, a GPA of 7 still won't be competitive enough - you need to complete a full year of study first. I'd agree trying to boost your GPA is a good option, and resitting UCAT and aiming for a higher score (even though your current score is already very high) and applying to the dentistry unis again next year would be a good bet. Also try and develop a strong written application for JCU.

You could also pursue graduate entry further down the line if non-standard entry doesn't work out. Good luck and sorry to see such a strong score potentially still not being enough! It's such a tough game.

Thanks for the kind reply!
Does usyd or any other dental uni have a post graduate entry scheme? I thought it was only year 12 leaver restricted?

Sure does. USYD, UniMelb and UWA all accept graduate entry applications. Those are in addition to all of the undergraduate entry dental schools that you're also eligible for.

Your UCAT score seems to be high enough Adelaide, is there a reason why you're only applying to CSU?

Just to add to this, if your GPA is below 6.5 unfortunately you wont be eligable for a UQ offer, and griffith is even more stringent with 6.875 being the regular cutoff. Adelaide and JCU are your best options at the moment unfortunately.

Is it looking like the UCAT score for UQ dentistry is going to be even higher than anticipated? The cutoffs so far for this year are kinda worrisome. 😰

Currently, there is nothing which would indicate this, the reason why UQ cutoffs when up, was because interview was based off UCAT only, with no atar cutoffs. We are still anticipating the same level of increase though. Although, that being said, the high interview cutoff indicates everything is not predicatble, so waiting and seeing is the only antidote unfortunately

hi, to get a uq dent offer, do i have to put it first preference? someone just told me this and I'm getting quite worried

No (but it’s a little more complicated than a flat no). It just needs to be in your preferences somewhere for you to be eligible, but; hypothetical example...

Preference 1: JCU dent
Preference 2: UQ dent
Preference 3: GU Tupperware Containership

If you’re successful for all three offers, the JCU offer will be the one you’ll receive as it's your first preference.
If you’re NOT successful for a JCU offer, but you are successful for UQ Dent and GU Tupperware Containership, UQ Dent is the only one you’ll receive.
If you’re not successful for JCU or UQ but you are for GU Tupperware Containership, that’s the only one you’ll receive (a coveted degree, to be sure ;) )

You will get a single offer for the highest preferenced course that you are successful for. It could be your top preference or your fourth preference, so make sure you list courses in the order you most want to study them.
