That smells like total B.S., if that were the case we'd see very significant disparities in UCAT score cutoffs between SA and non-SA kids (there aren't, 2860 was the cutoff last year and being South Australian didn't change that). Two of my friends from SA with 2840 and 2850 didn't receive an interview offer, meaning that the cutoffs are set in stone. As for whether 400 of the 800 interviewees end up being South Australian anyway (because it's more convenient to interview as a local), that may be plausible.

Adelaide has returned to what they did 3-4 years ago, when they gave SA students a 10% (iirc) bonus to their UMAT scores for the purpose of interview selection. This bonus was not used in the final ranking though.
 
For those who are based in Adelaide, we will be offering a blended delivery mode that combines face-to-face with remote learning in as many courses as possible, taking into consideration social distancing and hygiene. All lectures will continue to be delivered online for the remainder of the year, with some exceptions.

For our students who are studying offshore for the remainder of the 2020 Academic Year, the University will continue to offer high-quality access to the learning resources remotely. This includes all lectures, tutorials and other support material. Students will be advised in advance if there are course components that cannot be provided in remote mode and, wherever possible, offered alternative courses.

Do you think Adelaide might justify the bonus by saying they want to maximise face to face delivery numbers, hence adelaide students?

For many applicants, UCAT is what trips people up, as there is no recourse if you just miss the cutoff. This reversion back to old times means gg to borderline UCAT but high ATAR (and potentially high interview skills but they'll never be able to demonstrate them) interstate applicants.

Do you mean to say this clause wasn't present last year? I just want to confirm since I really want an Adelaide interview

Honestly, I don’t care how they justify it. The only reasonable basis for doing this is to address a workforce shortage in the state, which to the best of my knowledge, South Australia doesn’t have. Moves taken like this are inequitable, plain and simple.

Pre-2018 Adelaide held two separate interview rounds. First round was for SA + interstate students who met the UMAT cutoff (SA students with the bonus). Second round for interstate students only, whose actual ATAR + UMAT met the 2nd round cutoff.

Doesn't look like the 2nd interstate make-up round will be going ahead this year, so bad luck if you miss out lel

I guess we will find out. Doubt I'll get a real response considering they don't owe me an explanation, and its not like im going to take them to court over the issue. Also its not like your going to see any South Australians complaining about the advantages

EDIT: I would send one to Monash but i think its a little tone deaf to argue against that any advantage Victorian's may get this year
