[Undergrad] EAS/SCATS/UES/SEAS General Discussion and Enquiries

Hey, thank you for your reply. Do you know of any schools in Australia that place EAS students in a seperate pool?
I think there's some very specific programs like the gateway program at UNSW but unless you go to a local gateway school in Sydney your not eligible from my knowledge. Again this is going of my knowledge but I don't think many, if any schools provide a completely seperate EAS pool for applicants as the extra points normally level the playing field, at least in the universities eyes.

edit: just looking through your post history University of Adelaide is likely your best chance this year unfortunately mate, unless the percentiles change majorly somewhere else UNSW is unlikely as you would be just below the cusp with a 99.95 with EAS adjustment factors, id still say its worth the application though.

Thank you, that makes sense as I suppose the Universities view disadvantage as mainly being something that effects someones ATAR.

well exactly technically the UCAT is an aptitude test so in the universities eyes disadvantage wouldn't effect that in the same way it would say two years of intense study (ATAR). Not saying I agree with this btw just saying how I imagine the universities see it.

Monash leaves aside spots for Monash Guarantee applicants, where you get "monash guarantee" if your SEAS is very significant (significant disadvantage). They also only leave aside these spots to only monash guarantee people who wouldn't have got an offer otherwise, (ie people that without the monash guarantee, there atar would be too low to get an offer in the normal pool).

OP doesn't meet this requirement the of Monash Guarantee:
  • be studying an Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in 2021
They have taken a gap year to sit the UCAT that's why I didn't originally mention it unfortunately.

Hey, thank you very much for the suggestion, yes unfortunately I took a gap year/I never did chemistry in year 12 so I couldn't apply to Monash unfortunately.

just a quick question is UES strictly for school leavers? or can non-standards apply for it as well
My interpretation of the explanation is that you can apply for UES as a non-school leaver, but you’re only eligible:
A. If, during the year you got your ATAR, you or your parents got Centrelink, etc
AND
B. The course you’re applying for will be using that ATAR to assess your offer status

(ie. if you’re applying to a course on the basis of GPA - ie UAdel Dent - then no, UES doesn’t apply)

When considering who to invite for interviews, do unis look at EAS? I saw the deadline for EAS in UAC was the 17th of December. But for unis (e.g. JCU) which get your predicted ATAR form and base who gets an interview off that, do they consider EAS as well at that stage?

The majority of unis do not as invites are based on UCAT alone. UNSW is an exception as they consider actual ATAR's for offers though this year I'm not sure how there doing that. I imagine even if they use predicted they would still consider EAS.

Was the EAS final application date (for it to be considered in a med application) the 30th of September? I'm wondering, cause I had my predicted ATAR form filled in for JCU, and my ATAR was lower than what you would need, however, if my EAS application was accepted it would help boost my ATAR lot. I'm not sure if it's too late for JCU to consider this, especially considering their interview invites are going to be released soon. Is it too late?

JCU don’t consider EAS for med or dent

Which subject provides you with adjustments??
Double check SATAC. But I believe it’s English General or above, some language subjects (i.e., French) and maths methods or above. Each subject gets you two adjustments factors with a maximum of four. I think you must also pass the subject so simply just enrolling would not be enough to benefit form the scheme.

Yep I did, and you seem to be right. Hopefully, they convert my Extension 1 and 2 Maths (NSW) into bonus points. I wonder if it carries over from high school if you apply as a non-standard.

If you have a gpa it does not. If your on a gap year I believe it does. It is also a final ranking factor so it's use would vary as they would select on the other factors first. Though the median atar is still high

Does EAS boost your ATAR by actually 1 or more points (i.e. a 98 to 99) or could it be that they boost you in deciminal points from i.e a 99 to a 99.2? Also i heard somewhere that UNSW doesnt count jobkeeper eas, is that true? Do they still count other financial disadvantage categories and if so how much possibly would your atar be raised by?

UNSW told me that SCATS only applies bonus points to your uni results. Is this right? I was under the impression that it could also help with your ATAR if the disadvantage mainly affected you in high school
