[Undergrad] EAS/SCATS/UES/SEAS General Discussion and Enquiries

Hi all. I'm a non-standard applicant looking to apply to UNSW. Recently I learnt that in order to apply, you must have obtained both a 96+ ATAR and 70+ WAM. I have met the latter requirement however my ATAR is just under (95.95). I'm eligible to apply for EAS points however I just found out that they don't give bonus points to those who have commenced tertiary studies. I'm looking to apply for SCATs (on the basis of financial difficulty, personal illness and family illness which has been continuous from secondary to tertiary studies). However, I recently read on here that SCATs only applies adjustment points to your tertiary studies. Even if the adjustment points makes my WAM/GPA competitive, and given that I am able to demonstrate that the circumstances for which I am eligible for SCATs also affected my secondary studies, would I still be unable to apply to UNSW? I would greatly appreciate any advice, thank you!

You need to have met that 96 ATAR requirement with your latest secondary qualification. So to answer simply, a 95.95 is not enough, thus, deeming you ineligible.

I understand this, but the UNSW website asks you to give an impact statement for any special circumstances that may have impacted you during either secondary or tertiary studies, so I had a little bit of hope that perhaps they would apply adjustment points to my ATAR was well. Unfortunately for me it seems they've just worded it poorly.

They specifically mention 96 ATAR and NOT selection rank. Remembering the definition of selection rank (SR = ATAR + adjustments), in my own opinion with the chosen wording by UNSW, it would not qualify you.

Hi guys, does anyone know whether having parents who have family tax benefit A and B will qualify for financial difficult adjustments? Im residing in wa and interested in uwa Curtin or Notre dame but interstate is fine as well. I’ve tried to look on their websites and everything and called but they just said to upload all your evidence and stuff during applications. I know some interstate unis allow family tax benefit such as unsw, but anyone know whether this can be used as evidence for every uni, especially wa unis? Thankyouu

I think FTB is accepted for SATAC UES > Adjustment factors – SATAC
  • They or their parents receive a Commonwealth means-tested income support payment
Should be similar for other TACs/unis if they have a financial disadvantage category.

If I received a UCAT of say around 80th to 88th percentile, and i get a 99.95 atar, will having EAS still increase my chances at UNSW medicine or not as my atar is already at the max?

___________
A1 replies: Adding to RainRain's reply - No, EAS won't boost ATAR past 99.95 and regular applicants wouldn't get an interview with 80ish %ile.
But I remember seeing one interview invite for an EAS with less than 90%ile. Maybe UNSW has a sub-quota for EAS within the Main pool that allows UCAT cutoff to be lower.

Specifically for UNSW, if I'm eligible for Gateway as an interstate non-rural applicant living in a low socioeconomic area, can I apply under both the main pool and the Gateway pool? There are separate interviews and offer quotas for each pool per the UNSW website?

___________
A1 replies: I have seen posts on MSO saying you can only be in one pool. If so I think the Gateway pool would give you better chances. Though not proveable the final-ranking/place-offer cutoff for Gateway ought to be lower than the Main pool, otherwise the scheme gives no benefits to be Gateway at all.

Hi there, I was just wondering if the states other than NSW for EAS tell you whether your application for special consideration has been accepted?

Hi there, I was just wondering if the states other than NSW for EAS tell you whether your application for special consideration has been accepted?
VIC will not, and QLD will tell you if you call and ask, SA will tell you if you call, TISC will email you if you are eligible and will not tell you if you have been rejected, TAS will email you your outcome either way.

Hey guys hope you are well. I’m a gap year WA applicant but I need help regarding EAS for TISC and UAC please.
How do they handle EAS for gap year students. Is EAS considered in my selection rank for MAIN round offers even though I already have my actual ATAR? Because I heard that EAS is calculated with the generation of actual ATAR after ATAR exams and I wanna make sure EAS is not considered ONLY after first round offers 😬. Hope the answer to this also helps others. A1 if u cld pls help that would be amazing cheers!

Hi I was kinda asking the same thing as DTY can u still apply for EAS as a gap year student? Or do some no longer accept it as it would’ve affected my atar at the time?

Yes you can! With UAC you don't need to reapply, they just transfer it over from your previous year's application. TISC requires you to reapply. It will be considered in main rounds as long as you apply by the deadlines listed.

EDIT: This is me assuming that you both received EAS in Year 12, if you're applying for circumstances during the gap year they will not count.

By 'circumstances during the gap year', does it mean that you can apply in the gap year, for something that occurred in year 12, even if you didn't apply in year 12
Good point, apologies for the poor phrasing.

As long as you have documents that clearly state that it occurred during your HSC year, then you can apply even if you did not in Year 12. For example, I had to find my healthcare card from 2023 not 2024 to apply for UES in SA during 2024 although I graduated in 2023.

UTAS consider any EAS scheme? I can't find anything like that. Please let me know if anyone have experience of applying or applied for UTAS EAS scheme?

thank you but there is nothing for year 12 students. It is for students who are already enrolled in UTAS. for Year 12's they think it is already factored by board of studies and reflected in our ATAR's.
