Is being on holiday overseas a valid reason usually (esp for other unis like Curtin, UWA)? Do you happen to know what hte other applicant's reason was?

The other applicant was an NZ student who was coming to Aus in Nov for another reason and so wanted to see if they could save themselves an additional trip. The Uni was very obliging. No idea what stance other unis take, but can’t possibly see how asking would hurt.

Dr.Potato may be happy to share some basics on structure, but if UAdel is anything like unis I interviewed at, a confidentiality agreement will have been signed by interviewees.

I looked on their website but I can only find interview info for oral health which I don't think is the same thing?

If I have UNSW as my first preference, does that mean I can only receive an interview invite from UNSW for the first offer round?
In my case, I have UNSW first, WSU second, but I know WSU releases interview invites before UNSW. Will I still receive that interview invite if its only my second pref?

No, as is repeated frequently here, preferencing does not affect your chances for interview.

The details of medical interviews (eg. questions asked) are confidential, but in general: think of what motivated you to apply for medicine, what qualities and attributes you think make you suited for medicine, and get plenty of sleep before the day/don't turn up late.
Although this is for WSU, I think this advice applies for JMP, and any other interview, too (thanks Lottie319 ) WSU MMI Interview Tips

As for paid interview tutoring, that's not allowed to be advertised on MSO:
READ THIS before posting advertisements
I would honestly advise against paying for interview tutoring. Practicing too much for an interview can make your answers seem stilted and artificial, and you can just ask parents/siblings/etc. for help should you require it.

If you go on a tangent that isn't related to the question, bringing in irrelevant info, appearing to recite instead of thinking of answers, answering too quickly, etc. etc.

Nope, lots of people have gotten into medicine without any medical work related work experience (myself included).
People have gotten a place without significant volunteer experience, as well- it's all to do with how well you can draw from your existing life experiences, not a case of doing a whole bunch of medical-related things without understanding what you learned from the experience.

EtA: Please don't take it to mean that you shouldn't volunteer or try to get some medical related work experience! Just make sure to do it because you genuinely enjoy it and/or want to learn something from it, not just so it will "help you get into med if I mention it in my interview".

No. Although it would be good to have some experience to ensure medicine is what you really want to do.

I've been told that interviewers can tell if answers are rehearsed, is this really true? How can they do this?

Most of them will certainly be able to tell if you have rehearsed your answers. Have you ever had a teacher read directly from notes or straight out of a textbook? Or watched someone recite a speech directly from note cards? Often it comes across disingenuous.
If you answer a question with honest enthusiasm, and put some thought into your answer they will most often be able to tell.

A lot of the interview is about trying to get a feel for what sort of person you are, and if the personality traits they can identify mesh well with a career in medicine. They want you to be honest and give them some real insight into who you are. If you sound like your answers are rehearsed it's not going to impress anyone, because it doesn't give them any real information.

I would absolutely recommend avoiding interview prep. And while I can't give much advice (due to confidentiality) the best thing to do is be honest. You'll hear it time and time again, but it's extremely important. In some scenarios they aren't so concerned with what your answer is, as they are with WHY that's your answer.
Also if you have role play scenarios remember to focus on the person, not just the problem.

Nope. They only said that successful applicants will be notified tomorrow and unsuccessful applicants will be notified on Monday.

I wonder if the scores will differ significantly from last year given that this is the last year of umat.
