General Interview Discussion and Questions 2020 Entry

The consequence would just be that you wouldn’t be eligible for a place at uni, and potentially a spot would be taken away from another candidate depending on how late you leave it.
For example, as an interstate applicant, I should get a JMP interview offer soon (fingers crossed!) and I assume I will need to book the interview (which will be held in late January). But what if I receive an Adelaide offer from SATAC before that (I've personally "preferenced" Adelaide above JMP)? Is cancelling possible - maybe by directly contacting the uni or something?

You don't get to book your JMP interview, you will just be allocated a half-day time slot, I think (unless the non-rural process is different to the rural one). And yes, definitely, cancelling is possible. ETA: also, that reason for cancelling at the last minute is completely justified in my opinion. Yes, someone else may miss out on attending an interview, but you don't know your offer status prior to then.

ETA 2: I'd actually imagine this happens not infrequently during those later round interviews. I had three offers prior to my UNSW interview and so didn't bother attending the interview. The date hadn't been set yet, so that part might be different to JMP but the outcome was similar.

Thanks for the reassurance: in the case that this happens, what is the best way to go about cancelling the interview whilst minimising collateral damage? I'd imagine that booking but never showing up isn't ideal. Is there a cancel button on the interview booking portal? Or should we just call the unis and tell them our situation?

I would definitely contact the Uni and let them know, yeah. I mean, not turning up has the same effect, but at least they can be prepared and not expect you on the day/be looking for you, etc. I have no idea if there is a cancel 'button', but I'd probably just call as soon as you know your SATAC status.

Does anyone know last years UWA interstate med interview dates? (or any dates from the past few years) I've looked around but can't seem to find anything to get an idea of when it will be aside from the 'mid to late January' on their website.

Last year, it was January 20ish from memory.

Sorry just to ask - is all RURAL interviews on the 25nov-6dec, or is it interstate applicants and rurals? And then 20-21st January the rest of the interstate applicants?

Could anyone clarify this for me?

1) JMP has 870 interview invites this year compared to 700 ish last year?
2) Non-rural places = 130?
3) JMP has no booking system so we get a random time slot allocated to us?

Thanks!!

The first two points have been mentioned here but I've not personally seen it confirmed by JMP so... possibly?
And for 3) if they're doing the same as previous yes, then yep, you'll be allocated a slot.

For 2019 entry, it was Jan 11th, 2019 (according to people posting their invites here).

To clarify, all JMP invites are released together but only NSW/ACT/QLD + rural applicants get allocated a time slot for Nov-Dec. Other interstates will wait until January to know. Last year an interstate applicant called JMP in Jan to arrange a time slot, the JMP person checked her GPA being below the hurdle and declined to give her one.

(Btw this GPA/ATAR check is not done for the Nov-Dec interviews since most results aren't out yet).

But even in January, the time slots are allocated, aren't they?

A1 they say never meet your heroes but boy am I glad I did, thanks <3

Sorry I don't remember how the Jan slots are managed but definitely not by online booking. Either JMP will email you a time slot in January or ask you to call to arrange. The applicant mentioned above PMed me saying she called JMP to arrange but was refused due to her GPA.

Yeah, the emailing of the slot is how the rurals/in-states/QLDs get theirs, so I imagine it's the same.
