Hey guys, I know someone who did really well in the UCAT and has a decent ATAR, but didn't know that they had to submit applications for the unis. Is there any way to fix this or is it too late to be considered for interviews!

They’ll need to contact the specific unis directly, but unfortunately I think there’s nothing they can do.

When looking for something else I realised that rural UNSW invites were released on the 5th of October last year but we’ve had no word here so far this year...

That's because last year UNSW held a very early round (like late Oct) of interviews for rurals only. This year they don't, rurals are grouped into the same Dec round for locals with invites released immediately after ATAR on 17th Dec it has been shifted to late Nov.

Ahh I don't believe this is actually 100% correct. My friend and I are currently both overseas and have been nagging UNSW about when they'll be holding their interviews as we need to book our flights home asap and they said in one email that they'll be released during the week of the 28th of October. Another reason why I think that it isn't quite right is because if you go onto this link: Rural Student Entry Scheme | Rural Clinical School it says that interviews will be between the 25th and 29th of November for rural students :)

A1 replies: Thanks for the correction. At the time I checked before posting the Interview Dates thread this Rural webpage wasn't showing this info while the UNSW main webpage didn't mention it either, I thought it had been discontinued.

Thank you!!! Another question... If someone JUUSSTT reaches the minimum requirements, are they guaranteed an interview?
Also, when deciding if I qualify for a place, will they base it off just my interview, or combination of my interview and other academic achievements..? I'm a little scared because my ISAT was 171, and their requirements are 170, I'm afraid my ISAT's going to bring me down.

I literally hv the same question as you. I am trying to find info abt whether passing the min requirement (170 for isat, 39 for ib and 7 for ielts) would guarantee an interview? hv u found any info abt this?

Does anyone know what the lowest isat score called for interview is (or based on ur experience)? and whether a high ib/a-level score would be able to compensate a low isat? because i heard that as long as you get 170 for isat and 40 or above for ib, you are basically offered an interview. any info or advice would be great! Please advise. Thank uu:)

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but how are unis giving out interviews before ATARS are released? I know they give them out based on predicted ATARS, but what happens if a person who received an interview gets a lower ATAR than predicted and doesn't meet the minimum threshold? What about the people who didn't meet the threshold with their predicted ATARS, bu Is there a second round of interviews after ATARS are released?

For the universities that do this and that have ATAR as a threshold (so, WSU and JMP), then those people who don't meet the hurdle are excluded from the offer stage, regardless of their other selection criteria competitiveness. No, there is no second round of interview invites sent out for these unis as they already interview far more people than they could ever hope to give offers to and so those that don't meet hurdles actually help them to reduce their lists.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, my predicted ATAR is way too low due to trials, and I was hoping for externals to boost it... Which is a shame as JMP was my first choice.
What're the universities that don't take in account the predicted ATARS?
Thanks!

JMP doesn't consider ATAR (or predicted ATAR) until after interviews have happened (neither does WSU) so that shouldn't affect your chances of receiving an interview in any way.

I'm not sure about WSU, but doesn't JMP give out interviews only after you pass the minimum threshold? If not, wouldn't they be giving out interviews to people with ATARS lower than the requirement?
Sorry, for the confusion. I'm really worried that I won't get into anything next year. Thanks!

They only offer interviews based on UCAT scores. Place offers are then given out if you pass the minimum threshold for your actual ATAR.

Yes they would. From what I remember I did not have to submit a predicted atar form or anything to prove that I'd get above the threshold ATAR. They interview more than enough people to mitigate the risk of someone possibly not getting above the threshold ATAR.

Thanks so much! That makes me a lot less stressed. Although isn't that a huge waste of time for the interviewers?
Thank you!!

Thanks for your reply! Although, I heard that unis contact your school for your predicted atar? Not sure though.

Doubt it. Far too many applicants for that to happen. This is usually why schools that want a predicted make is so that the school sends it instead of the uni asking.

Well yes. But at the same time, if you are looking at medicine, chances are that your ATAR is high enough to pass any given threshold.

Ok, awesome, thank you so much!!

This message may not apply to most people on this forum; rural UNSW applicants who performed below the threshold of 50%ile have already been 'knocked back' two weeks ago. An email was sent stating in so many words, 'to remove the UAC preference and that your application has been deleted'. I was too upset to check this forum till now so... if you haven't received an email, all you rural applicants UNSW, that's a good thing and wishing you the best of luck.

So.... it looks like WSU is weighing VR heavily which means that leaves some super high total UCAT scorers without an invite - does that mean that the competition for a JMP or UNSW offer will be even fiercer? Like harder to rank higher, since some super high UCAT scorers have one less uni option? Or would it make minimal difference?
Personally doubt it. WSU has always had an increased weighting for specific sections e.g in the UMAT days, S1 and S2 more than S3. Hence, I doubt them focussing in on a group that scored better in certain sections will change things majorly from year to year. Though I’d be interested to see a more in-depth analysis from one of the mods or admins.
