General Interview Discussion and Questions 2020 Entry

Jumping into this early from the UK. I can see the pulses running high with the wait on the interview with dubious and inconsistent information being provided esp from UoN. This is consistent with the manner in which they treat the candidates requesting information specific to the interviews. Please talk to either Tracey Bristow or Sue Gardener who may provide correct status or the least they did last year. I am not sure who is in charge there now in Med school! I can feel the pain as I was in the same boat last year and the year before but started Med school in the UK when I attended the interview. Good luck to all. 👍

When I have had any sort of question I had been in contact with Sue Gardener ☺ She is incredibly courteous and quick in her reply.

Also I attend UoN and have been a Newcastle resident for almost my whole life, and I hope this toing and froing doesn’t turn you off! From what I have observed the med cohort is incredibly collegiate and they look like they’re having a great time. It’s a shame about the bureaucratic nightmare over waiting, I have been told by a UoN careers advisor late July that there was anticipation in the UCAT throwing a spanner in the works!

I literally just talked to UoN and was told in no manner of unfriendly terms that results will be released at a date TBA and no-one knows when nor will they be telling anyone, just to wait like every other year - so i don't know how others have been "told" specific times.
The number both I and my friend called this morning at about 10.20 was 02 4921 5583 (at University of Newcastle) and we both spoke to really lovely people who were very helpful and explained that the emails were being sent out by late this afternoon. The people we talked to probably were from the admissions office rather than the Medical faculty, but the lady I spoke to specifically said that they were sending out 871 emails today (I had simply rounded that to 870 in my post), and to call on Monday if I hadn't heard anything? So it's disappointing that different information is being given out to different callers - perhaps they've had a lot of calls today and are tired of answering us when it seems the release date or time may now have been held up?

A quick google search shows that you might have actually spoken to Sue Gardener, the JMP admissions support officer. I think something just came up for them after your call and they decided to shift the interview release date to Monday. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is. Just another couple more days of anticipation now!

Sorry - I should have clarified we called at about 9.20am Brisbane time (10.20 NSW time) - no daylight saving here!!

Thankyou for that - I hate to think that anyone would imagine I just made up the information I was given? The lady I spoke to was so lovely and I really appreciated her taking the time to speak to me when I imagine she has been called any number of times about the application dates and process. Yes - hopefully just a few more days?

PLEASE use the proper thread and the proper format to report invites. Please! For my sanity!!

And congratulations to those who get the news they've been waiting for.

Does UNE and WSU send out rejection emails aswell? Or is it, if you hear nothing its a no?
Based on history, WSU send out majority of their interview invites at once, with a few trickling out until the 4th November, at which point if you were unsuccessful, they will email you. UNE (JMP) send out their invites in waves - iirc, last year UNE interviews went out first, then UON a few hours later then the day after interstaters were emailed invites. JMP will also email you if you were unsuccessful after they send out all their invites.

Is it usually sent out in waves or all at once?

From memory, WSU is typically at once, but we are theorising that it's in waves this year given the extremely slow trickle of news here at MSO. We had a flood of posts over a couple of minutes here yesterday when WSU sent out a generic email, so we would expect something similar for invites if they were all sent out at once, but the fact we've only had two so far suggests a rolling schedule this year for whatever reason.

Just a heads up too that I was speaking to some of the WSU med school staff today. They told me they planned to send interview offers out today (I didn't want to post here and get anyone's hopes up!) but they also said that it's now being handled by the normal admissions office of the uni instead of by the med school directly. So I wouldn't rely too heavily on prior years being an indicator of how this year will work.

Oh please let it be so...

However, it does seem that a fair few people have already chucked theirs up on the collated page.

Actually, I believe that last year the normal admissions office took over for the first time (I remember talking to Penny at the School of Medicine, and I'm fairly sure she was the one who informed me of this)

Oh okay, it wasn't Penny I spoke to. But the staff member today seemed to think this was the first year. My bad! I've got no idea.
