General Interview Discussion and Questions - 2021 Entry

Does anyone know whether CSU/WSU send out rejection emails? Or is it safe to assume you didn’t make it if you didn’t receive an interview offer? Has all the offers been sent out?

I’m a bit confused since the lowest cutoff for CSU dentistry on the interview data collection page was 3070 (96th) for dentistry, while I received a 3090 (also 96th) but heard nothing from CSU.

thanks!

I would contact them (CSU dent) directly and ask for your application to be reviewed and be quite persistent. It's possible the report here is a mis-report obviously, but we've also already had instances of emails incorrectly not being sent (though from WSU for JPM, not CSU dent).

As for rejection emails, yes, WSU have traditionally sent these out, so presumably JPM will continue to do so, but they don't do it immediately. It's usually a week or so after the interview booking system has opened and the uni fills the empty spots with top up invites. We believe this is happening again this year.

There’s pretty much no such thing as ‘confirmed’ when it comes to the application cycle. There’s simply the last thing admissions said to whichever MSO member braved the gauntlet to contact them. The next person to call could well get a very difference response. As per that notion: the 4th-6th is the last quote we received (thanks to hazell).
So I re-braved the JMP gauntlet, and I've been told over the phone that successful applicants from NSW & QLD will be emailed tomorrow afternoon. Unsuccessful applicants should receive an email sometime next week.

Someone in another thread just said yes, once ATAR has been released, but this has not been verified.
I can verify. But UQ have said it will be a tiny offer round to top up interview places. I assume the invites will be based on UCAT results still but can't confirm.

The place offer cutoffs for UQ med were normally at low 90s in most of the past years. When they introduce interview, shouldn't the interview cutoff be lower than the previous offer cutoffs?

Previously, there was an ATAR/OP/academic rank cut off of 99.00, so anyone with an academic score below this, even just 98.95, were ineligible, and this has clearly driven the UCAT(/UMAT) requirements down in the past. The new academic hurdle is 95.00, so all those 98.95s with their 95+ UCATs that would have been ineligible last year are now getting interviews. Not to mention the 98.90s and 98.85s etc etc...

ETA: in fact, you can take that one step further given the invites have been sent out based on UCAT only, with the academic hurdle not being applied until after the fact (obviously, given ATARs haven’t been released yet). So the invites aren’t even using the 95.00 cut off yet, they will have just gone down the UCAT list and selected the top X amount of applicants. Once ATAR is thrown into the mix later, and those who were interviewed and are now ineligible on this basis are removed from contention*, it seems UQ will be topping up the interview list.

*Likely very few as 95.00 is pretty generous.

Congratulations to everyone who has received and invite from JMP today! If anyone would like to join a group over zoom or discord where we can practice and discuss the interview, please send me a message!

There is an existing discord and a zoom group or two you might want to check out.

A shot in the dark, but my booking confirmation email from them came with a link to add the interview to my google calendar, which showed a duration of 40 minutes.

I've just realised my Adelaide dentistry and jmp interviews are right after one another, with the jmp one starting at 11:30 and going for around 30 min (according to the email) and the adelaide one starting at 12:30 with me needing to log in by 12.
Both emails say no change can be made on the interview times, so now im kind of lost on what to do. Any suggestions on what i should do? like should i try calling one of the unis or just try and make it to the adelaide one as fast as i can.

thanks!

JMP already confirmed that if you contact them on Monday they will change your time. Also, don't forget to factor in the various time zone differences that exist across the country at the moment when you're rescheduling.
