Griffith Griffith Dentistry: Admissions General Discussion

Do you think this likely means they look at subject scores for straight undergrad degrees, too? Not just honours degrees? I know you probably won’t know for sure, but just wondering if this would change thinking about GPA calculation between 80 = HD Unis and Griffith more generally.
It’s definitely possible. My understanding is that if subject scores are recorded on an academic transcript in addition to the grades, then the TACs may possibly recalculate the GPA, but a lot of unis don’t record specific marks so QTAC etc don’t have anything to go off other than the 1-7 grades on the transcript. I think A1 probably knows more though as he’s mentioned that we have users that confirmed QTAC and UAC will just take whatever grade is on the transcript at face value.

Hey guys,

NZ applicant here, just received my offer for Dentistry at Griffith. I'm looking for some advice regarding the cost of fees for the last 2 years of the degree. From what I understand, NZ citizens are not eligible for any government loans and will have to front the entire 59.5k upfront. Does the uni offer any scholarships or other support for fee payment?

Cheers :)

It depends on whether you're a school leaver or not. There are a few scholarships available for school leavers. However, for non standards, there are no scholarships. The fees are a real killer.

Ah, exactly as I feared. I'm a non standard so I'll definitely have to give some proper thought before responding to this offer.

weird, haven't received an offer even with first class honours (though was less than 85, so maybe it griffith looked at the mark rather than the class?)

I've already been accepted at UWA so doesn't bother me but thought i'd just add that in for future data

Hi sal123, I’m having the same situation and I’m intending to apply for next year entry with honours as well. I’m wondering what’s your GPA for undergrad is? Thank you.

When I asked the manager of admissions at Griffith, she told me that first class honours was worth a 99.5 and second class was 99.25. In the past it wasn’t the case, as almost all honours applicants seemed to get in. But they changed it around 2017 I think. So honours might not be enough anymore, but double check to be sure.

This information is so helpful, thank you! For reference LMG! - I may need to retract my earlier theory!

Wheres everyone staying? I'm looking to book an airbnb for the first month and look for a private accomodation meanwhile.

Is that shared or private? Can you provide a link?

Thanks

I just google them but I booked a tentative one with booking.com, just search for motels in the area you wanna live in

Depends on how much you can spend (ie. do you just want a room or can you afford your own flat), how many subjects you're doing (ie. how many days do you actually have to be at uni) and then whether you have a car or are going to use public transport (if you live close enough you can walk/bike).

Definitely check out the Flatmates website if you're just looking for a room.

Most people that move to the uni village because "they think it's just easy" end up moving once their initial lease is up because it's too noisy, distracting and expensive

Loads of people also live from Southport city area down to Surfers paradise and just catch the tram straight to the uni (obviously the further you go the longer it takes... but it's a great option to be close to the beach and if you don't mind a chill little tram ride. You can easily study or just listen to music/netflix)

Busses are also pretty reliable

If you're doing a full course load as I did then it's better to live closer IMO. I moved from Robina to right near the uni. Although it's only a ~20min drive away... it becomes 40mins door to door... twice a day... five days a week... at 6am and 5/6/7pm when you're exhausted.... so it really takes a toll when you add daily study onto that. I currently live ~1km away and it takes me about 4 mins on the bike (chill 12-15 min walk) directly to where the classes are. It's super easy to duck home for lunch or to the gym if you have a 3hr break (as well as not going to bed at 1am and waking up at 5am everyday)

Hope this helps :)

There’s a few people in my cohort looking for roommates at the moment. Have a look at GUDSA marketplace on Facebook and you’ll see some accommodation ads :)

This is the link for GUDSA marketplace. It's a group so you're gonna have to join it first to view the ads (I think)
