i dunno how theyre even calculated.

hmm how many people generally get 30+/44 in section 1? 50%? im guessing 30/44 is about 50 raw mark.

Not good enough for UQ Dent, But i will be just as happy getting into vet Sci next year as well...Already have the GPA for both, so will just have to see how UMAT results turn out this year:| There is always Griffith Dent as well Here's hoping!!!!!!!

Hmmm dunno Kavin, I talked to one chick at 12.20 at the doors of the gym then I went downto the A-F rego table and stayed there til about 1.15 when I went in and didn't talk to anyone...

What is the cut-off for griffth dentistry?

Hey to my knowledge the cut-offs for griffith dent was around overall=55 (~80%ile) for 2009 entry, but tha may very well increase because of Uni of Melbourne shutting down it's undergrad dentistry so depending on how many melbourne people come to QLD next year....

By the way, let me know if your going to jump off that bridge....I wanna come too if i dont get in aswell!!!

what is the relative difficulty to get 58-60 for each section? i need about 175-180.

is it relatively easy to get or hard or average? is an overall score of 60 (total raw score of 180) exceptional or average?

i have no idea how this is calculated, so past umaters, if you got above 175, were u confident that u did pretty well?

It really depends on which section you're good at and you know, whether the test was easy or hard that year.

For me, I'd say 60 for each section shouldn't be so hard to get; it's not easy, but definitely not hard.

Why do you need 175 btw? :S

and the umat cutoffs for uq dent last year was 173, but since this years umat test was supposedly easier than last year, the cut off will probably rise by about 2-5 points. my friends tell me the cutoff will probably be around 175-180 this year.

I see. Hmmmm do you have a seciton that you are really good at? That you know you will get like 80 raw score? Coz if oyu do, then you should be fine. you only need like 50 each in other sections to get in. Which is not hard at all.

HOLY CRUD!!! 80 raw score :| i would do anything to get that...that's like 100%ile INSANE!!!!!!! by the way, an overall of 60 would have landed you a spot in the top 8% of all people that sat UMAT in 2008 and around about the top 7% in 2007 (and YES i kept the damn graphs!)....I personally think that is a FANTASTIC achievement! and definately not something that would/Should come easily. Also don't forget, a combined score of 174 (as req. for UQ dent) would not be the easiest grade to come by, considering that UQ only offers 45 places for dentistry each year. Not really many in the grand scheme of things, there are hundreds of people that apply for it each year. and i have once heard from a source i cannot remember, but UQ turns away about 240 OP 1's each year (Rank 99; UAI of something big, 99 i think). So competition is pretty hard-core, now add in to the mix that there are only a handful of unis that offer undergrad dentistry and they all also like UQ only offer between 30 and 50 places then you are looking at (in my opinion) the hardest undergraduate degree to get in to in Australia. Yes, all very true. I ommited the places that are available for international students, because no matter how much most of us domestic Aussies would love to have these places available to us, it isn't going to happen! So the figures i gave are for doemstic undergrads, and please DO NOT BE FOOLED by what the UQ school of dentistry website says on how many places are available. I have contacted them about this and they said that It is about 55 all up, meaning that when they subtract the international students, it leave 45 places for domestics...I just looked it up and it says "The annual admission quota is 45 places". sorry for the confusion....Also true about the OP1. I am one of the GPA equivalent people. I didn't get an OP 1 at high school but now have a Tertiary 1 institution GPA of 6.25 which is OP1 equivalent and as for the cut off being 174, i don't know that it would be this for 2010 intake, i just mentioned it as an indication for what was taken in for 2009 entry. But, i am totally with your friends. This years test was easy, and so as a result, the cut off will/should rise. What should NOT change however, is where you would stand in relation to everyone else (ie your percentile). For 2008 entry UQ dent took in people from about the 80th percentile, but for 2009, they took in people from the 88th percentile. That is a huge differnce!!!! And the only way that a difference like this occurs is when more high scoring UMAT people decide to go to a certain university, thus meaning that if you want their spot, then you simply have to perform better. So, noone can be certain, as it all depends on how many people want to apply for the course...So if you want my opinion, NOONE should apply for uq dent, that way i can freaking get in this year lol!!!!! I go to UQ so in order for me to have the equivalent of an OP 1, all i need is a GPA of 5.8 (WAY WAY WAY easier to get than an OP1 if you want my opinion, so i wouldn't fret if you don't get an OP1, just relax and take a yaer of science or whatever you're good at) If i were to go to griffith, bond JCU etc, than i would have to get at lease a GPA 6.5 after one year of study (not as easy lol).

PS QCS IS FREAKING CRAP!!!! I got an A in it, Was top of the class in all of my subjects on A's, but my freakin cohort i sat QCS with were a bunch of freaking idiots!! some of them did not answer anything because it was too hard!! IT WAS FREAKING MULTIPLE CHOICEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRR AARRRGGHHH their stupidity escapes me.....anyway, i ended up on an OP 4, my teachers all told me it was because of our schools completely hopeless QCS Average of D- :| The whole freakin system is screwed.....but yeah, once you get to uni it doesn't matter any more! and is completely on You (except for freaking group assignments, but thats for another time) and you will be rewarded with grades that reflect your effort and abilities. Then YOU take these grades and you use them to get into the course of your choice.....UNTIL umat crushes your chances year after year lol ahahah stupid test.
