Guess your UMAT score for each section!

so what if theres an OP 1 student and a gpa 5.8 student? if the gpa 5.8 student gets a higher umat hes accepted rather than Op1 student with lower umat?

Absolutely correct!!! but only on the condition that the GPA 5.8 came from a Group 1 institution. Likewise, if they were from a Group 2 uni and they got a 6.5 then they would all be on exactly the same level by UQ Dent's standards for their grade, and then they'd use UMAT to decide who they would prefer.

For even more of an example, if there were only 2 places left and there was 3 people. 1 had an OP1, another had a GPA 5.8 (from UQ) and another had GPA of 6.5 (from lets just say QUT). Each person wants to get into Dentistry at UQ.

The OP 1 got a UMAT overall of 174
The GPA 5.8 got an overall of 178
The GPA 6.5 got an overall of 179

Provided that there were no applicants in between the difference of an overall of 174 and 178, then QTAC would offer the remaining 2 places to the GPA 6 person first, then the GPA 5.8 person. And if anyone had rejected their offer for dentistry, the OP1 student would be the next in line to receive an offer. And if there were more people to reject offers, then people further down the applicants list would continue to get offered a spot until they are all filled! the whole 45 of em'.

Also If there are 2 people that go to UQ (or any other Group 1 uni) and one of em gets a GPA 6.0 and the other a GPA 6.25 and they both got the same UMAT result....obviously the GPA 6.25 would be offered a place first, then the 6.0 guy. Keep in mind though that once you have achieved the OP1 or equivalent you ranking does not go any higher (ie. 99 is the highest you can get). So i am pretty sure for all you OP 1ers out there, that the GPA 6.25 person would be on the same level as you (because you can increase your GPA from 5.8 all the way to 7), however the OP1 is as far as it can possibly go.

Finally, if there were 2 people from a group 1 institution
person 1 - GPA 5.8 with UMAT 180
person 2 - GPA 7.0 with UMAT 174

Although person 2 has a MUCH higher GPA, they are on the same level (OP 1 equivalent; rank 99) and therefore the person with the higher UMAT would be offered a spot first. I guess to put it concisely, once you have achieved the OP 1 or equivalent, then the only reason they would use these grades to differentiate you from other candidates is if you have the same UMAT as someone else and they need to decide who is 'better'.

For people who have done the UMAT in 2008 or early:
Guess how many you got correct in each section and corresponding UMAT score. For example, you may have gotten 60 in all sections
Section 1 - 35/44 60
Section 2 - 30/36 60
Section 3 - 25/30 60

I want to get a rough idea of the number of correct answers needed for a particular score.

As far as i know, ACER dont release such details when u get results. All you get is a raw score and percentiles for both individual sections and overall

S1:10/44 - 41
S2:20/36 - 50
S3:23/30 - 60

as you can see i did absolutely sh*t last year. and i don't feel too confident this year also

I'm just looking for ballpark figures. I had results similar to your's last year, but its hard to remember how i went...i know i was confused/randomly guessed alot. This year was alot better though, so i'm starting to get my hopes up

I got 49 for S1 last year, and I thought I got around 50%. I was so surprised though, I guessed SO much LOL

Not sure what I thought I got in the other sections.

Its hard for people to know. 35/44 in section 1 would be an extremely high percentile.
