Does the admissions committee ever release the "rank score" cut offs or nah as that term was just used by MSO? Are they likely to release a GPA cutoff this year via email if asked?

Hi All,

So after a long year of HSFY, I've decided to create a blog to share my experiences and to help others moving forward. I noticed there was not much relevant information for 2018/2019 and in light of the many changes I wanted to start a blog. I know that this has been done before but I am committed to making a comprehensive guide from academics to social life etc.

What i'm asking form y'all on MSO is to help me grow. What I mean by this is I want others who can help me write about their experiences (as everyones experiences differ), and to help grow and help me with tech stuff (as i'm a computer novice and barely can get blogger to work). Anyways I've linked by my blog as well as an email address if anyone wants to reach out!

Hi there,

It is not representative, but it's positively biased. The increasing trend was visible from MSO data and the cutoffs provided evidence towards it.

Yes, anecdotally, I’d say that MSO posts about scores are generally more skewed towards either those scoring really highly (and therefore they’re happy and confident to share), or those scoring on perceived borderlines (as they’re anxious and understandably looking for reassurance).

Definitely not representative of the entire applicant cohort, but fortunately gives us useful info about trends, not just for HSFY, but site-wide.

Hi,

Yes, definitely so. Except for 2016, our median was much higher than the cutoff. I have presented a number of graphs on this matter. They can be found in the HSFY Rank Score thread. The graphs do need to be updated, however.

I don't understand how there can be a 2019 column given that a minimum average has not been set. Does the table refer to students heading into Dentistry/Medicine in 2019?

Yes it is referring to students who are heading into Dentistry/Medicine in 2019

Hello everyone!

My level 3 externals are finally finished and I have applied for HSFY for next year. My dream is to get into medicine next year but does anyone know where I can get resources (aside from here) so I can prepare for it during the holidays? I am aware that HSFY is a busy year as my friends have told me but I am wanting to study physics in advance!

Thank you.

So can we predict from this information that the avg for med will also be around 92 or maybe even a bit lower since there are more seats in med then for dent?

Nope, that 82.06 is not the grade percentage, it is the rank score, which was derived from 67% grades, 33% UMAT prior to this year. However, without UMAT and now using UCAT as a threshold for entry, only the grade average will matter.

I suspect it will be about 91%+, but that is a complete guess, and noone (not even the admissions department) can say for certain until the results come in.

I see! Does anyone know where to get resources for HSFY because I am doing it next year. I want to prepare for it seeing that everything seems super competitive.
