JCU 2017 Interview Offers Discussion

Hi can anyone tell me my chances for a 2nd round interview for med/a dent offer? I didnt get 1st round interview with school's prediction of 96, my real ATAR was 98.05 and I think my application was quite strong. Would my ATAR be high enough?
Your ATAR should be competitive enough provided your application is strong. Remember that final place offers only depends on your ATAR and interview so your interview will be crucial if you get an interview offer.

Hmm I think my application was good enough. My atar was 98.80 (OP 2)...and I probably was predicted an atar of like 94-90 (OP 4-7) (long story involving my teachers favouring academic prefects...). Do I have a chance at second round considering my actual atar was much higher? Man I don't wanna miss out cause of a biased predicted atar...

You will have the same opportunity to interview as someone who had a predicted ATAR of 98.80 with your application; just that your interview will be later. Your chances at a spot (once you receive an interview in second round) remain the same as someone who interviewed first round, with your score and application.

Hopefully all goes well. Is an ATAR of 98.8 competitive?

JCU has a rather heavy weighting on the application, so while people have received offers with an ATAR below yours, people have also missed out on interviews with ATARs above yours.

You are pretty close, but generally applicants would need a 99 ATAR to be competitive.

No no, people have missed out interviews with PREDICTED atars higher/lower than me.

No, I'm quoting stats from years past. People have missed out on interviews with ACTUAL atars higher than yours.

Look, it comes down to your application and interview I believe. JCU is different in that it accepts people who are "fit for medicine" and not just ATAR99+ students. At the same time, they won't just accept someone who has an ATAR of 90 or something similar. This is what a JCU medical school spokesperson told me at an exposition in Brissy. So it's not all about the ATAR but you still have to do pretty well. One of my friends got an OP6 and she got in from second round. So JCU sees if you're fit to become a doctor - at the same time you still have to be reasonably smart. That's the reason there's no published ATAR requirement - because they're just not after smartness, they're after people who would be versatile doctors in the future.

Yes, I am aware of the weighting of the application at JCU. That said, the interviews are still highly skewed towards those with ATARs of 99.

Hey guys! just wondering about prerequisites- I emailed a dude at the admissions office about 6 months ago and he said that this Stats course (at uni) would fulfil the Maths prerequisite, as I did not do Maths Studies (SA) in Year 12. However, in the QTAC offers page it says that I still haven't met the prerequisite for the Maths component, even though I received my uni results a month ago. Should I be concerned, as second round offers are coming out very soon :/

Thanks!

Hi cerebralataxia76258,
I was informed I had to actually complete a recognised maths B course as I had only completed year 11 of it. I have completed university stats courses at well, but this was never discussed with me. I would ring them to make sure. It should say requirements met on QTAC.
Good luck!
