Hey does anyone know if your GPA needs to be FTE, I would like to study a grad cert but was worried they would use this GPA and it will not be competitive as its only 4 units. Hoping they just look at my Bachelor Degree?

Best to contact JCU regarding your query as they will be the ones looking at your tertiary studies.

A quirk in JCU Admissions Procedure may work against you. Yes do call JCU to check but beware of the below, if JCU advise you differently ask if they are aware of this procedure and get their words in writing

"15.2 Applicants for specified undergraduate courses (med/dent/vet) who:
- have completed at least one semester full-time equivalent tertiary study will be considered for eligibility for an offer based on their most recent course GPA in addition to any Special Criteria (including, for example, any other formal academic achievement)"

I received an IB 43 (ATAR 99.45) in 2021 and missed out on JCU because my predicted atar was way lower. However, this year I am on a gap year and have decided to give JCU another shot as I feel that I have an improved chance on getting an interview invite. However, some students were telling me that the admissions team also regard the fact that I wasn't selected for an interview last year and that may skew their judgement a bit. I was wondering whether this was true ??

I was also wondering if anyone would like to let me see their written application for JCU as I am lost on how to answer the questions and what the admissions team are looking for? Any other help for getting me into JCU would also be much appreciated. Cheers Guys!

I don’t believe this would impact your chances at all.

And no one really knows what JCU are ‘looking for’ in terms of answers as (reasonably) they don’t provide any further information, and responses should be personal to the applicant.

I’d imagine their key desire is for applicants to actually answer the questions (not the questions the applicant wishes JCU had asked). You’d be surprised how often I’ve seen this to be the case (or just listing accomplishments without talking about them meaningfully) when reviewing responses.

So officially now on the JCU medicine website locations include both Townsville AND Cairns… I’m assuming the additional CSP spots got approved by the government? Anyone got any more information on this!

So far JCU has only been given 20 new CSP places in Cairns to start next year as part of a Labor government promise. Not the full 80 they wanted to also run the course from Mackay as far as I know. My understanding is JCU is looking at moving 20 existing CSP places from Townsville to make the Cairns cohort slightly larger (total 40). I'll keep you posted on any more details as I discover it myself.

Is it possible to do the CH1020 Preparatory Chemistry Bridging course or is there a bridging course early next year in 2023 in order to apply? Also if I do the bridging course, who do I contact to notify? Also does this university allow bridging courses in chemistry from other universities?

CH1020 is accepted but iirc you have to be enrolled now to complete it by December to be eligible.

Other bridging courses have to meet JCU's criteria. You need to ask JCU Med or Admissions on this.

Yes, but if you get accepted you may have to do a bridging unit for chemistry. Furthermore you stated that you've completed your undergrad, so I'd assume this is an application for graduate-entry medicine?

This is the JCU thread, so it’s all the same application, this student would just be classed as a non-standard applicant into the undergrad degree.

With regard to the bridging course, Yakyak01, I believe it needs to be enrolled in for completion prior to offers in order to be considered, rather than an offer being made and then the bridging course needing to be completed afterwards as suggested above.

That does sound very positive for you! Mine says - Processing of this information has not commenced

I would personally contact QTAC to find out otherwise you may worry about it unnecessarily down the track. But if it said satisfied, I would assume what you completed in grade 11 was enough. QTAC can give you a clear answer, and have been very helpful for me in the past. Good luck.
