JCU JCU Medicine: Interview Discussion

Hi Aisha, Are currently at JCU or taking a gap year? You said you were accepted at JCU in 2015. Then saw another post saying you got an interview offer from UNSW medicine for 2016. If you are at JCU did you manage to find a suitable accommodation.

I deferred my offer for 2015, thought i'd try again closer to home. If I don't end up going to UNSW then I will be going to JCU.

My actual ATAR was lower than my expected and I went from op2 to op3. Have my chances been significantly lowered do I no longer have a chance.

Btw already had my interview

With an ATAR of 98 (interstate, standard) I didn't get the second round of interview invite from the JCU. So is it all over? Or will any more interview invites be sent tomorrow?
Heart broken...

Dear AnxAnn
I don't know if there will be anymore interview invites but the important thing is to stay positive. If you want to be a doctor there are other ways to get in (aka GAMSAT). And remember that the 'main' medical entry round is through GAMSAT. Although I am surprised you didn't get a first round interview call. Did your school predict a lower ATAR perhaps?

my school predicted 99 and I still did not get first or second round of interview. now I am just hoping that they consider my application for dentistry.

haha i meant they don't really look at atar when giving interview offers? idk
From what I have heard they have a minimum depending on your location. For instance people from a city may need an ATAR prediction between 99-97 at least for their application to even be considered.

Can anyone give me some possible current issues that they may bring up for the mock debate? I have googled but nothing seems to really stand out or repeat itself..... :( I was thinking something about the drug ice? Can you please give me some current issues that have been very popular in the past and some questions they could use to discuss these topics!?!

I'm going to sleep now! Happy New Year to you all and may 2016 present you with many opportunities and memories xx

I'm not too sure but I think the issues change each year based on what's current at the moment, so it's hard to say if what has been offered in the past will come up (I would guess probably not). And I had an interview this year (last year now!) and the topics were not exactly very 'popular' and not very obvious - I wouldn't have guessed them.

Not saying this to scare you! I think it's less about your specific knowledge about the topic but more about how you can consider different viewpoints on it, and point out issues that arise from it. Don't stress too much about it, maybe read the newspaper and watch the news if you are worried. And remember they give you 3 to choose from so chances are you'll know something about at least one :) I only knew about one of the 3 topics but still managed (I'm not much of a debater though)

Anyway this is just what I thought of it so take it with a grain of salt hahah. And I realise it doesn't quite answer your question but I hope it helps a little. Happy new year to you too and good luck :)

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone happens to know how many places are available for non-standards at JCU please? (just looking for a ballpark figure)

Thanks in advance!
