JCU JCU Medicine: Interview Discussion

With answers to these questions in general, how long would you suggest spending on one question (eg. What makes you a good candidate for this course?) Cause potentially you could really ramble on and on about it. Like 3 or 4 sentences, 5 minutes?? I really have no clue
Also on that topic, would we be allowed to bring a watch?
I've also heard from a friend (who isnt interested in med or dent) that some interviews allow you to bring in a page of notes. I doubt this would be allowed at JCU but though I'd ask just in case if this IS allowed by any chance?

When I did my interview (2012-entry), the interview times were very variable. Mine went on for maybe 20-30 mins, but I had friends who got in who had interviews between 10 - 40 minutes. So it's super variable and don't feel time-pressured. Having said that, don't speak for the sake of it - rambling and repeating yourself does you no favours. As above, take your time, make your points, keep them interesting Good luck!

Have second round interviews finished???

I could be wrong but I thought second round wasn't until after Actual ATARs have been released so probably not yet? Can anyone confirm.

Second round interviews only occur after the first round offers have been given out around the middle of January.

They have a round of interviews after ATARs are released. I know several people, myself included, who got an interview and a place via said second round

QTAC will organise second round offers, there are always spots because some candidates choose to accept offers from other med degrees.

This is little more than a formality and will not affect your chances in most cases.

I had removed my JCU preference because I hadn't gotten an interview offer and didn't think I would. The option to add it is closed now. Can QTAC add it back for me or let me go back to my previous preferences before I changed them? Could JCU call and give me an offer without going through QTAC?

Best talk to QTAC, I hope they will restore the JCU pref for you.

Would someone receive a call even if JCU isn't their first preference? i.e. is JCU privy to that sort of information?

Some unis, like CSU Dent recently and JCU last year, do call to inform you have "scored" a place but would only show as a TAC offer if it is top pref. Then up to you if you want to swap the prefs around.

There are numerous resources available on this website that have been created by current and past medical students from JCU. The most helpful thread for preparing for the interviews is probably: JCU - Interview and General Question Thread for JCU | Med Students Online. Here you'll get the general idea of what questions they are likely to ask, what their mission is as a medical program, what they look for in applicants etc.

Thank you very much Harry99 and congratualtions on your offer. Past threads say that JCU interview is quite laid back. Was it like that for you? Were you nervous? Do you think i need an ATAR of at least 99 to be competitive as a non rural?
