LaTrobe La Trobe Dentistry: General Discussion

I’m extremely confused. On the Latrobe website it says the aspire cutoff is 94, that means if you receive a conditional offer and clear the ATAR cutoff + satisfy the prereqs you should get in right (on Jan 14).
Yea that’s right, I think the person before who didn’t get an offer in Nov will still get one in Jan if they cleared the atar hurdle/gpa hurdle, it’s just aspire don’t give out offers until Jan.
Yes, what you guys said is true according to their website. I still think you guys have a fairly good chance of getting an offer in January. However, I'm just a bit skeptical after I saw what happened to CSU applicants this year. In previous years, there were people on this forum complaining about Latrobe's internal transfer pathway being non-transparent and confusing. I guess the aspire program is also managed by Latrobe's admissions team? It's not a good sign when the staff members (hopefully they are not members of the admissions team) don't even know if the aspire program participate in the November round:

Last I spoke to LaTrobe about it they sounded pretty confident I met the conditions of my Aspire Offer but they said "If they participate in Nov round" which makes me think possibly they haven't this year?

I got an Aspire Offer (as non-standard) however never got the Nov round offer. When I followed up the Uni regarding this (as I spoke to them a few times to confirm what the conditions were for a non-standard applicant) they said the Aspire program only participate in Jan offer round as flynnscrivo72 has said above. Will just have to wait and see how it plays out though as the first few people I spoke to from the Uni did not know there was no Nov offers for Aspire.

Firstly, congrats on getting the Aspire offer!
Secondly, you SHOULD get an offer in Jan if you have met all your conditions which it sounds like you have. I would still recommend calling and speaking to someone from LaTrobe to confirm that you have met all conditions.

Hopefully things go well for you guys this year.

Hey guys, is anyone going to be attending La Trobe uni for dentistry starting this year? If so, I'd love to connect with you guys and get to know you.
Also, what are your guys' plans for accommodation? Is it recommended to live on or off-campus in 1st year?

Had a chat with Latrobe admission staff today regarding the selection process for non-standard non-Latrobe applicants. The primary consideration is UCAT score, GPA only used if two applicants have the same UCAT. The staff also mentioned there might be a change in 2023, hopefully it's not the interview.

Yes. If multiple applicants have the same UCAT score the GPA is then used for selection. Please note, this may be subject to change for the Semester 1, 2023 intake.

Interesting. Anyone know what the historic UCAT cut off has been for non standard ?

LaTrobe: Dentistry
First offers released Nov 20th
UCAT: 95th%ile, ATAR: 99.05 (gap year), waiting on other offers for final decision making
UCAT: 93rd%ile, GPA: 6.4, waiting on other offers for final decision making
UCAT: 2980, GPA: 6.875, waiting on SATAC
UCAT: 70th%ile, ATAR: 99.35, SEAS, accepting

How does calculating gpa work at latrobe dentistry, is it based on exams, practicals or something or is everything graded. I ask this because I’m going to do latrobe dentistry as a back up and then apply to med again next year if I don’t get in this year.

Are these conditional offers where they had applied for the aspire program? Or are more non-standard offers going to be given?

latrobe dent isn't GPA, but is WAM. Essentially everything is graded, both practicals (which is contained all in 1 subject mainly) and exams.

Are semesters divided up into several units, or is ‘dentistry’ a single unit? For example, my Med degree is a single unit each semester, and I get a single ‘grade’ at the end of it, whereas I know of other Med unis that divide the semester up into multiple units, and each unit comes with its own grade upon completion.

The content/knowledge is broken down into several units across the semesters, but the clinical skills is a single unit/course that goes for the whole year. This is as far as I know for first year at La trobe dent.

It seems like a big change. They should have updated it on their website like what Griffith did. Did Griffith put up the new selection process two years before they made the changes?

I think it was data for the 2020/2021 cycle.

This file shows how Latrobe dentistry is structured:

Even if Latrobe only provides you with a WAM, med schools and admissions centres should still be able calculate a GPA for you as long as you an individual mark for each subject.

the admission staff said they will update the admission requirements in April if there are any changes.

Did anyone get an offer through VTAC? If yes, what did you get it solely on ATAR (what was it) or Aspire program?
I got an offer in the November round, but it was based on my GPA which is equivalent to a 99 and I'm also a regional student. So happy!!

I got a 99.55 ATAR and no offer 😢. According to the VTAC report the minimum adjusted was 99.55 (so i'm right on the brink of getting in). What are the chances I get a 2nd, 3rd or 4th round offer?

Pretty disappointed I didn’t get an offer :/
I received an Aspire conditional offer back in October and I called them to confirm that I had met all the conditions but no offer today even as Rural applicant and 80th %ile UCAT. Will likely follow up with them about what happened there but going to be accepting my CSU Dent offer

I would assume it's possible/likely as people will reject their offers for instate offers or medicine offers normally
