LaTrobe La Trobe Dentistry: General Discussion

huh! thanks for clarifiying this! a bit off topic, but does this mean that if you achieve the minimum atar for say the first round offers for all but your first preference, you effectively receive offers to all the courses (which you can accept)?
No, you only receive one offer per offer round (the highest preference that you're eligible for).

is the personal statement in vtac necessary to fill in (their website doesn't mention it in their application process)

Generally as a non-standard for La Trobe, they don't really care about your GPA at all, they want a REALLY high UCAT score (think 90+ percentile)

I had a friend of a friend who was a non-standard - he got 98 or 99th percentile on UMAT (back in the good ol' days) and was on a 4.something GPA.

Does anyone have a contact email address/phone number for La Trobe Dentistry? Their website is useless.

For a lot of universities, the only way to get through to a specific department is to go through general admissions and ask to be redirected. If there is no direct contact available, I'd phone the general admissions number and try that if you haven't already.

Thanks LMG. I wanna ask them about the biology course prerequisite for the school leaver and their admission criteria in general ( UCAT & ATAR cut off). I haven't taken biology, so I need to do a bridging course.

Okay, good luck!!

Course Type: Dent
Offer Received: Yes
University: La Trobe University
UCAT: 96% (2990, VR: 640, DM: 770, QR: 870, AR: 710, SJ: 641)
ATAR or GPA: 98.65 (2018), predicted 6.8
Special Considerations: N/A
Offer Type: CSP
Other Information: Aspire, possibly rejecting for UQ when offers come in January

Admin feel free to delete later to unclog the offers list.

But I'm just confused because I received higher marks in terms of UCAT, ATAR, and GPA, and was wondering why I didn't receive an offer? Pretty sure my application is correct - should I ring up or? Any advice anyone?

I’m not familiar with LaTrobe’s selection criteria, but is it possible they weight the UCAT sections like WSU does? If not, you should definitely give them a call.

The question is, did you do biology?

Yup, I did biology and Chemistry.
Ahh ok that was the only other thing I could think could be the problem.

EDIT: it seems you also need a 35 in English which seems kinda high, did you also get that?

Did you apply through the Aspire program?

Did you apply through the Aspire program?

Nope, but I talked to someone else on the Dentistry thread who also received an offer without applying to the Aspire program, so I don't think that's the case.

I got a Band 6 92 in English so I'm not sure how that converts, but pretty sure its high enough.

The person you were referring to did receive an offer through Aspire though, so that could explain why they received an offer with lower stats than you

I received the La Trobe offer as well but I didn't apply through the Aspire program nor write the personal statement. We have the same UCAT score, so it's strange that ucatsyd didn't get the offer...

Could someone please tell me how entry ino LaTrobe entry works? I only put it on my VTAC preferences and didn't do anything else (personal statement, Aspire program etc.). What results does Latrobe take into consideration? Predicted ATAR? UCAT?

So I gave them a call and they were quite vague and unhelpful about it, all they said was "It's based on a competitive selection - and said that you should wait until the next January offers." I told them about my case of having higher GPA/ATAR/UCAT and they just repeated the same thing. Oh well

For non-standard, I'm under the impression (from MSO forum) that it is entirely based on UCAT.
For school leavers, it is entirely based on ATAR.

While La Trobe participates in early round offer, it is only restricted to non-standard applicants.

This is extracted from their website (FAQs for future students, La Trobe University):

VTAC Applications

  • Early round offers (timely non-year 12 domestic applicants only)* - 15 November 2019
  • December offer round domestic Victoria and Queensland only - 18 December 2019
  • January offer round domestic - 15 January 2020
  • February offer round 1 domestic - 3 Feb 2020
  • February offer round 1 domestic - 10 Feb 2020
  • February offer round 1 domestic - 17 Feb 2020
  • February offer round 1 domestic - 24 Feb 2020

*Early round offers are generally very limited. Not receiving an early round offer does not necessarily mean your application was unsuccessful.
