anyone get an offer for dent?
No offer. First-year uni student with a WAM of 90 in the first semester, but semester 2 results have not been released yet. Maybe I was ineligible for this round because they only used one semester of results. Hopefully I’ll have more luck with next round as my WAM should be closer to 95.

hey if you don't mind me asking, what degree did you study which scored you this gpa? you should be getting an offer in the next rounds
I have completed my bachelor degree in allied health. hopefully i can get an offer next round. I dont know what else to do to improve my stats anymore.

Do they use WAM or GPA? Also, do you know if SEAS counts in the case of non-standard uni applicants? So
I have called both Vtac and La trobe, both have confirmed that they will convert GPA / WAM using their own conversion method into ATAR
non-standards are also eligible for SEAS, which i have also confirmed with them both.

1. I've completed a BSc and stand-alone Honours. Does anyone know if La Trobe will use WAM/GPA from both courses or just the most recent (Honours only)?

2. I received an Aspire conditional offer but not sure what this means in terms of my competitiveness. Is Aspire in itself competitive to get in or do they just hand out conditional offers to whoever demonstrates sufficient community service experience? I am hoping if someone can tell me if all I need now is to meet the minimum Aspire requirement (94 ATAR equivalent) or am I still competing with other applicants. I'm just under the impression that a few graduates may have received a Aspire offers.

Hi,
I am not sure about 1.
BUT, for 2 i can tell you is that they are NOT giving Aspire offers to whoever, because if you scroll to a few pages earlier, many of us did not received Aspire offers for the programme that we applied for.
Also, do you mind me asking if your stats? Rural ? and what community service have you done?

Thanks for answering my 2nd question. Apologies for doubling up questions, should have read the thread more thoroughly.

Non-rural
Honours only: 7 GPA/83 WAM
Both courses combined: 6.85 GPA/ 78 WAM
Applied for SEAS
Personal statement with 3 letters of support from: High School rep/personal contact, employer and research supervisor (not sure if this has any weight but used it for JCU so might as well for La Trobe).

Community experience:
Area Warden at my place of employment -- first point of contact for all forms of emergencies. It's a voluntary role on top of my employment.
Briefly mentioned I completed the DoE Bronze and Silver Award in High School.

Let me know if I've missed something.

Thanks for your clarification!

I see. If they convert to an ATAR then would SEAS act to scale it up? Or does it have a different function?

I don’t know exactly but I believe that if you got an aspire offer that you are much much more likely to receive an offer. Your GPA is also likely high enough to be equivalent to the 94 Aspire ATAR requirement.

Thanks.

I believe I read somewhere that it's not GPA that they look at but rather WAM. A bit worried if this is the case. I asked them to disclose the WAM/GPA to ATAR/Selection Rank conversion, but they wouldn't... *sigh*

Yeah, that’s what I thought too. I thought they exclusively used WAM. I do wonder how they compare applicants if they convert both WAM and GPA’s into an ATAR. Let’s say applicant 1 has a 7 GPA and 80 WAM but applicant 2 has a 6.8 GPA and 90 WAM. In this case, who would they consider to be more competitive?

That is a good question my friend...I have a feeling it'll be the person with the highest WAM that would be more competitive.

Also, does anyone know if there is a limited number of places for non-Y12s? are we (non-Y12s) competing for the same number for places as Y12 applicants?

I ask because JCU explicitly states that there are limited spots for us, but I can't see it anywhere in the La Trobe dentistry website/handbook.

Yeah, I would guess WAM is a better way to rank in instances where people have the same GPA. However, if they do have two different conversions for WAM and GPA how would they then select whether to evaluate one or the other? I would guess this system would function well where a student only has a GPA or only has a WAM listed on their report.

In regards to a possible quota, I would think that that they limit the number of non-standards. It is evident in the admissions data that the cohort is made up of a much higher proportion of school leavers.

I have asked La trobe the same question, what they said was " the number of seats for non-standard are different every year, depending on how many total places there are each year."
yeah i know it doesnt really answer the question, but from what i have searched on their student profile, 2020 had 12 non-standards, then they stopped reporting for non-standards, N/P possibility indicating a number < 5. So i would guess it's less than 10 for non-standard each year.

In the same boat, I've obtained semester 1 results but semester 2 has not yet been released, how are they going to assess our applications if so. Are you sure there is a 2nd round? I can only find one round on the VTAC website
