LaTrobe La Trobe Dentistry: General Discussion

Decided to check out this forum with the hope of finding info that'll clear up some of the confusing aspects of La Trobe's dent. application. Now, having read some hundred comments, I am more confused than I was originally HAHAHAHA.

Just to clarify something -
For non-standard applicants, La Trobe solely uses the applicant's WAM for entry into their dent. course? If this is the case, would a WAM of ~85 be competitive? My WAM is currently 81.6, planning on raising it to ~85 by the completion of my degree (knowing La Trobe & the growing difficulty in getting into med/dent, they might require a WAM of 100 by then :(

Thanks in advance.

Does latrobe dent require the ucat this year? And if so what is the cutoff typically
No, UCAT is not required

Normally, it's 90+. Some people were able to get in with 85ish while others with 95ish WAM did not receive an offer.

Hi, I am a non-standard regional applicant, applying for regional entry into La Trobe Dent. I got a 76 WAM for 1st semester of Biomed at La Trobe and for 2nd semester I predict that Ill get around 75-80 WAM. I applied and received SEAS for Category 1 & 4. What are my chances of getting in?

im a regional student in NSW and volunteered for a year however no aspire offer, they only gave me one to get into biomedical science as a pathway into dentistry? will they give out more offers? and im applying to dentistry. 🙂

Hey there! Im currently studying 2nd dent at LaTrobe and our cohort is primarily local students - Melbourne students, couple of interstates and internationals. While other cohorts also follow a similar dynamic, I wouldn't say its not rare to have someone from New Zealand. I know of some students who are from Tasmania and New Zealand too :)) Hope this helps!
Hey goldEn! I hope you're doing well. I know you posted this a while ago, but I just have a question about la trobe dent. I'm non-standard and interstate, do you prehaps know what a competitive ucat and gpa might be considering your cohort? I have a 3180 ucat and 6.5 gpa.

I’m not sure if they do a second round offering. Sounds like you will have to do a year in biomed and then try and do the switch.

If you are accepted for the Aspire Community Contribution with Medicine as your first preference so they give you the interview and if you fail the interview will your second preference (dentistry) be offered? I know about second chance aspire, but the problem is medicine offers come in January so by the time you know if you failed the interviews/ atar requirements I feel that the preference can't be changed. Has anyone managed to change from medicine to dentistry after realising they didn't meet medicine requirements?

Has anyone recently looked at the Aspire ATAR requirements.. Have they just dropped... could have sworn they were higher...

it may be cause there's fewer applicants this time, idk

Im sure you can. I called them about something similar as I wasn't given an aspire offer into dentistry and they told me that there are going to be more offers going out in 2nd or maybe, 3rd round, however these will not be for aspire. I say you call them or submit an enquiry soon

i won't tell you my exact wam ahaha but the course isn't TOO hard. what's hard is making sure you get almost 100% on every single assessment. i haven't chosen my major as im only doing the course for this year. once ive finished the year and gotten in to dent ill post my wam and stuff.
can you do health sciences online? I might take health sciences it if I don't get a dentistry offer next year however won't move out of Sydney to do so. can I PM you about this?

Hi, I am a regional year 12 applicant (RA2) with a predicted ATAR of 92.
What are my chances of getting into Latrobe Dentistry?

I unfortunately did not receive a aspire offer

If you have listed the regional entry course I think may be you could get an offer and get in with 92. Although the atar distribution document says otherwise. Metro is a complete different story. What's your back up plan?

If you have listed the regional entry course it is still a possibility you are made an offer and get in with 92. Metro is a complete different story.

Sounds like a good plan. Will you get the aggregate points added on ? You’ve got a change with seas.

I hope so😀there is a reasonable adjustment in your selection rank although it is not enough to make up for living 2 hrs away from school through years 11 and 12

That’s a heck of a trip to school ! Especially if you’re RA2. I thought mine was bad ! 1.5 hours each way and 6 buses a day.

Does anyone know how

And yet i have to make the same decision again next year, either go to WSU 30 minutes away or USYD 2hrs away, WSU campus is dead silent whereas USYDs courses have a better reputation and the social life is better.
I’m hoping you put travel times on your personal application or SEAS!😭
