Hey guys, quick questions, people have mentioned that there is a maximum of 20 aggregate points you can get added onto your ATAR, but i know people who have got in with 75 ATAR but they were rural, how does that work? A1 do you know how this works?

They've updated the report since that screenshot and it now shows that the lowest selection rank to have received an offer was 99.95.

I was really hoping to get one in November round and didn't. I am absolutely gutted. I am currently a registered Dental Hygienist with AHPRA and graduated from Bachelor of Oral Health with Distinction 10 years ago. I am metro applicant and not sure why I didn't get in. I was really hoping to study in 2025!
Your experience would be looked upon very favourably by JCU; however, Latrobe primarily assesses applicants based on academic results. The WAM required to transfer into Dentistry used to be 90+. Some applicants even missed out with a WAM of around 95. Also, as a metro applicant, the requirement is significantly higher compared to rural applicants. Did you apply for other dental schools?

Yes I applied to JCU as well. I wasn't accepted for 2024. Yet to find out about 2025.

Hi guys, I'm a rural applicant with a completed degree (WAM: 80.294), and I wanted to know if I have a good chance at La Trobe Dentistry. I see the posts above mentioning needing a WAM of 90+. Is that for rural applicants as well?

Also, what does a WAM of 80 roughly convert to in terms of ATAR? I know there's no way of knowing for sure since no university has released such information, but if it were to be guestimated, what would it be roughly?

Thanks.

I believe a WAM of 80 gives a fair chance for a rural applicant, as you would be applying through a different stream. La Trobe does not convert WAM to an ATAR, nor do they disclose the method they use to assess non-standard applications. Other dental schools will have their own systems for conversion and assessment.

Has anyone received an offer from La Trobe today?
My son has an ATAR of 99.95, including adjustment factors, but he didn’t receive an offer today.
When I contacted the university, they said the competition is intense and asked us to wait for the remaining four offer rounds.
I’m just wondering if anyone received an offer today.

Hi, is your son a rural applicant?

My son is rural and had an atar of 95. No offer for dentistry la trobe regional. They said it was very competitive this year.
That is very odd, as the VTAC report shows that the lowest selection rank to receive an offer for the December round was 92.45.

La Trobe ATAR calculator seems ambiguous.
With the subject Chemistry(+2) and SEAS adjustments, I believe it would be a 99.95.
My son's raw ATAR is 98.7.
According to VTAC's 2024 report, an ATAR of 98.70 is equivalent to an aggregate score between 189.18 and 189.64.

Now, I'm not sure if VTAC discloses to applicants how many SEAS points they are eligible for, but let's say your son was eligible for the maximum SEAS points considered for the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), which is 10.

The 2 aggregate adjustment points for chemistry + a maximum of 10 SEAS aggregate adjustment points would mean your son's new aggregate score would be between 201.18 and 201.64. Now, converting this back to ATAR using the VTAC's 2024 report, your son's selection rank becomes 99.65.

This may explain why your son did not receive an offer for the December round, as the lowest selection rank that did receive an offer was 99.90.

I see it clearly now. I think I overlooked the difference between SACE and VCE. Thank you for letting me know. Have a Merry Christmas!

No worries, just wait for a moderator or someone more experienced to respond as well, in case I'm wrong. Merry Christmas!

We emailed them that was the answer. We are hopeful that he got a higher preference- la trobe biomedical (medicine) Aspire Community in the pipeline, and that is why he didn't receive an offer.

Yes, I agree with you. A lot of the times it comes down to the miscalculation of adjustment factors when people have a raw ATAR that is lower than the selection rank.

Lmao. "Dentistry is very competitive this year" is a generic answer they give to everyone every year when they enquire about not receiving an offer. Sometimes I wonder if they actually read the enquiries before they send out this answer.

That being said, it is very strange that your son did not get an offer. Last year, the median raw ATAR for rural applicants was 93.95. I also suspect it is because they were going to offer your son the biomedical/medical pathway.

My address is classified as RA Zone 2 on the Health Workforce Locator (ASGS 2021), but La Trobe’s website doesn't recognise it as rural. Could this affect my eligibility as a rural applicant? Thanks in advance.

Where did you see that? According to VTAC RA2 is considered (CourseSearch).
Apologies for not being clearer earlier. I used La Trobe's ATAR adjustment factors calculator and searched for my address, but it didn’t allocate any points for rurality. This made me question whether this would also affect my eligibility to apply as a rural applicant even though, according to VTAC, I'm considered RA2.
